    Rush Songs I Hate

I first began listening to RUSH before I really knew the full extent of what they were all about, musically ... I was just a kid who found certain bands appealing - and RUSH appealed to me because Geddy's voice was completely unique and their music made me feel the same way bands like KISS, Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin made me feel ... as a kid of 9 or 10, I didn't understand it, I just knew I liked it ... So for a few years, I had this bond with this oddball band who had a unique singer that could have been male or female, and rocked as hard as any other band out there ... A huge part of that bond was lost around 1981-82, and by Grace Under Pressure, I have to admit that RUSH completely lost me .. I love them, and always will ... But I would be lying if I said that I like ALL their music from all eras ... I think a true fan will stick with the band thru think and thin - but that doesn't mean we must love everything that they do ... Not sure if this answers the question, but . . .
  2. Love the Top 10s ... Here are the favorites: 1) Cygnus X1 Book 1 2) The Necromancer 3) 2112 4) Cygnus X1 Book 2 ( Hemispheres ) 5) Xanadu 6) Jacob's Ladder 7) By Tor And The Snow Dog 8) A Passage To Bangkok 9) Anthem 10) In The End Least favorite ? Take your pick of anything that followed the final throbs of Vital Signs .
  3. “‘I Think I’m Going Bald’ opens with an echoed shriek from Geddy that sounds as if he has just seen what he is about to describe. It is about waking up, looking in the mirror, and thinking that you are going bald. The song has an amusing closing lyrical prophecy: ‘But even when I’m grey I’ll still be grey my way.'”—Bill Banasiewicz, Rush Visions ... And some info from Geddy: “We were touring a lot with Kiss in those days, and they had a song called ‘I Think I’m Gong Blind’ [actually just ‘Goin’ Blind’]. So we were kind of taking the piss out of that title by just coming up with this. . . . Pratt [a nickname for Neil, another one being The Professor] came up with this line, “I think I’m going bald,” because Alex is always worried about losing his hair. Even when he was not losing his hair, he was obsessed with the fact that he might lose his hair. So he would try all kinds of ingredients to put on his scalp. And I think it just got Neil thinking about aging, even though we weren’t aging yet and had no right to talk about that stuff yet. It would be much more appropriate now [2004]. And it just became a kind of funny song. And even though the song is not funny, in terms of sentiment, it kind of is, and the music is really goofy. A lot of people mistake us for being deadly serious, but some of our songs are just plain goofy.”—Geddy in Contents Under Pressure
  4. More LOL They didn't even take the photo together ( Neil's background is darker ) ... apparently, there was only one jacket and one shirt, so Geddy and Alex had to share http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/images/books/usrocker-10.1991/usrocker-10.1991-1.jpg
  5. Roll The Bones makes me cringe ... God-awful, embarrassing song that sounds like each member emailed their parts in from 3 different points of the globe I love RUSH, and I love all genres of music - regardless of style, when something is done sincere and done well, it will be appreciated .... but Roll The Bones is just forced and awful
  6. What You're Doing is fantastic early RUSH, it rocks and I am proud to crank it LOUD when driving ... I actually like the studio version better - Rutsey uses the ride more and moves it along great - Neil drags too much on the live version ..... Top 20 RUSH song for me
  7. I think it is a Geddy scream, obviously with a nice analog echo added ... When music was recorded on tape, you could red-line it - in other words, record it super hot to the point of distorting ... This might be the case I've always thought it was Geddy ... I'm gonna go back and really listen though, as I see there is some doubt here ...
  8. Wow, thanks for this info - Elegant Gypsy is classic When I was a kid, my Dad took the family to see Al at Convention Center in Asbury Park, NJ - Splendido Hotel era ... Amazing I was lucky back then - starting in spring of 1979, my first four concerts were Cheap Trick, KISS, Al D and RUSH :D
  9. I have the same problem and it caused me a ton of frustration until 73 told me to switch the, "Toggle editing mode" button (it's on the far upper left of the dialogue box). When I switch over I don't have any problems typing. Everything's smooth. This did the trick ... thanks Janie !!
  10. Is there anything I can do to prevent the lag in typing in the main forum ?? ... As I am typing this, it is better here - a little smoother and not much lag ... But when I type a response to a topic in the main forum, it takes forever because half the letters don't come out and the other half run together ... I have never had that happen before Any suggestions ?? ( I use a laptop ) THANKS !!!
  11. I got to 149 - What You're Doing - and stopped sorry

    The Necromancer

The Necromancer, like Cygnus X1 and Jacob's Ladder, is what RUSH is all about for me ... These songs take me someplace - listening to them is an experience ..... RUSH at their best - these songs allow the listener to catch a glimpse of something ambiguous, both in story and sound, which, perhaps ironically, makes me feel closer to the entire experience
  13. Let's not forget the wonder bass growling in BY TOR And thanks for posting this about Henry Cowell - I had never heard of him .... Seems he could have been an influence on GOBLIN and their magnificent SUSPIRIA soundtrack
  14. LOL This struck me as extremely funny Perhaps the boys should cover the "classic" song Fu*k U" by the band Archive
  15. Thanks for the welcome Narpsberg ! .. Yes, I am new here - just registered yesterday ( Feb 24th )
  16. Fly By Night is a classic for me, and the fact that it goes so sadly unappreciated is completely baffling ... It also features the MOST CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED Rush song : IN THE END ... I also love Caress Of Steel, and feel that The Necromancer has been universally shunned too

    Jacob's Ladder

I love Jacob's Ladder - a Top 5 Rush song for me ........ My 3rd concert as a kid was the Palladium - May 9th 1980 in NYC - and all these years later I still gets chills thinking of the atmosphere, esp during this song
