  1. I agree when Neil said he was done, it was time for HIM to retire. My frustration with Neil is with the way he handled it...he gave everyone short notice, and he took Geddy and Alex into retirement with him. It now appears there will be no Lee Lifeson "project." They clearly weren't ready to call it quits at that moment picked by Neil. It would have been nice for Neil to acknowledge that and to publicly encourage his two lifetime co-workers to record together again. . He did? If you watch Time Stand Still, it's pretty clear he only agreed to go back on the road because they told him it was "one last time." Why does he have to tell them to carry on, as if they need his blessing to do that? When Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler reunited with Ronnie James Dio in 2007, Ozzy was running around saying that only him, Bill Ward, Butler and Iommi are Black Sabbath. He even filed a suit against Iommi to prevent him (the owner of the name) from using it in 2007. Rush is Lee, Lifeson and Peart. Peart wrote the lyrics to the songs. His drumming is something the band's musicianship aura is built upon. Without him, they aren't Rush, and the fact that he's not on the debut is irrelevant. They didn't save him from a life of obscurity, he worked with them to build a great band. I've said it a few times. I saw R40. Loved it. The CD is not good. Geddy's voice is really haggard at this point. Alex is not in the best of health. I just turned 50 a few months ago and they weren't kids when I got into them in 1980. Let them move on guys. Listen to their albums and enjoy them. If they want to release more music together or separately they will. If they don't, they don't. Not doing R40, Neil knew he would be giving zero notice. So he gave them some, but not alot. Listening to the CD, I agree 2015 was the year to retire, but damn, that tour was fun. Worth driving to VA PA NJ, and of course their last east coast show of all time, MSG Fans of the synth era tend to not agree, but fans of the early years waited forever for a setlist like R40. Then it was seemingly over before it began. Allocate fewer shows to the 7456 CA performances. Save a little juice in the tank for the setlist they never played. Save something for Europe. 20 shows? I'm not saying Rush should continue, but tell everyone you're curious what Al and Ged may release together as a project in the future. They made it obvious to everyone they weren't ready to retire. Support the two most important people in your professional life just a tiny bit. Woulda cost Neil nothing. .

Part of being a Rush fan is accepting the fact that even if Geddy, Alex and Neil are your personal heroes, they're not saints. Nobody's perfect 100% of the time. Personally, I always hated how Neil forced Ged and Al's hands into retirement even though they didn't want to, and to be honest, I'm also a bit disappointed in Geddy for not having a spine. He should have told Neil "Look, you may be done, but I'm not. I still want to perform, I still want to make new music, and whether you want to participate or not is your perogative." I guess he's just too nice to do that. Fraroc, well said. We have to accept Geddys extreme niceness. While the Bard Van Squalin crowd here loves to defend Neil at all costs, I totally get his retirement, albeit abrupt. They should have been allowed to do a second leg for Europe, but that's beyond over by now. A public statement encouraging Al and Ged to keep the faith would have cost him nothing, especially with him knowing the two guys most responsible for pulling him out of the auto parts industry didn't have it in their hearts to retire in n 2015. Damn, didn't think I'd go there.

I guess he's just too nice to do that. You really believe that three guys who have been in a band together for 40 years have not had these conversations with each other? Just because they aren't doing interviews or making public statements about it doesn't mean they haven't talked about all of this stuff. And nobody said that just because Neil wants to retire Geddy and Alex have to, too. They can do whatever they want. Who's to say they won't work together again? The only thing that's clear is if they do do a project together in the future it won't be under the name "Rush." Which is the right thing to do. To me this comes back to not being able to understand how someone can look at the body of work they've put out — 20 largely great albums over 40 years, plus near-constant touring in that time — and say "no, you know what, that's not enough, I'm mad they aren't going to do more." That's a lot of albums and tours. You'd be hard-pressed to find another band that's kept up this level of quality and consistency for that long a time. I can't think of another one that comes close. Go back and revisit one of their albums you haven't listened to in a while and see if you can discover something new in it. Or, god forbid, get into other bands. There are lots of them out there! My understanding is Ged and especially Al have spoken very little with Neil about this topic after he informed them of his abrupt decision on the fall of 2014

It would have been nice for Neil to acknowledge that and to publicly encourage his two lifetime co-workers to record together again. . Why should Neil have gone public with that? It's a private matter between the three of them whether Neil is ok with Geddy and Alex doing new music. Also they're two grown men and can do whatever the hell they want. I doubt Neil cares if they continue on with new music. I know Geddy will do solo albums again. I just think he's relaxing right now and enjoying things he didn't have the time for all those years he was busy with Rush. Same with Alex. Although I think he's more inclined to just enjoy retirement, smoke weed and probably just do some guest recording spots here and there. Why? They are not a private organization. He had life long co-workers, that supported him when it counted. They both said they weren't ready to retire. Supporting them would have been the right thing to do. What is the harm in saying he was interested in what they record without him? Maybe Geddy has one solo album left. Maybe. Alex has been cold on that idea. I doubt they do one together. Damn shame.

  6. Interesting the early Homeland seasons focused on terrorism originating in the middle East, while the last two seasons, especially the current one, focuses on internally American violence/terrorism issues.
  7. This is silly. for each example you cite above, I can point to others going into their 70's: David Gilmour, Roger Waters, BB King, Yes, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Dead, Camel, King Crimson, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffet, etc, etc. I threw BB in there because he went until he was almost 90. But everyone else in still alive, touring, and older than the Rush guys. And by the way, both Alex and Ged have talked about going until someone dies.....moreso in interviews conducted in the last 10 years. The only reason they aren't doing SOMETHING is because Neil is done. I agree it's unfortunate Ged n Al had to retire based on Neil's decision. It's disappointing they likely will not perform together again as a duo with guests. Considering Petty's demise was directly linked to his decision to tour at an advanced age while injured and on serious meds, I have more respect for Neil's decision now. I only wish the fans got a full "two legs" of advance warning. .
  8. PM, Krim was phenomenal. Glad they recently put Pictures back in the mix. They weren't kicking anyone out, but for any raised phones - ushers had the flashlights out in seconds. Only happened a couple times. I'll have to put together a review, if I can stay off aqua velva central long enough. But three drummers in the front! We were playing away the beat , kept daughter into the show for a longish one. Sitting shows tend to be a bummer...but the Krim got many standing ovations after many of their masterpieces. Very dramatic. And when the lights went all red, wow was that exciting for her! Do you know if Dream Theater has a more relaxed policy on iPhones? Thanks!
  9. See my posts a page or two back for my thoughts on the Halloween Krim show. Thanks, sounds like you enjoyed it. Glad Mr Fripp didn't cancel! Looking forward to three drummers stage front. Take that Neil! I'm deciding between adding a second Krim or a single Images and Words. Considering I knew both Johns back in the day, I should see DT once in life There were quite a few fans who thought they could get away w/taking a flash-less phone picture but the ushers at NJPAC were on point w/catching anyone who tried to do so before the very end of 21st Century Schizoid Man. I think the promo poster by the merch saying Live In Chicago is the closest experience to this Krim tour is the same each night, but I thought Newark's setlist was the closest to Chicago's out of all the shows on the tour. 15/20 songs they played in Newark were on the album. Personally, I thought seeing Krim anytime is more worth it than seeing DT even w/Images and Words in consideration. If anything, the show made me confident in seeing them again if and when they come back and do another run in the NYC area (I know they're playing the Beacon Theater two nights before DT the day after but one Krim show on this leg of the tour is enough to satisfy me). Silly me decided to take my early teen daughter, who just fell in love with her iPhone, and the seats are unfortunately close to Mr Fripp. I'm hoping the three drummers in the front will be enough to amaze her and not bother fans near us with any light she might want to create with her phone. I understand they just started playing a new song...deleted for spoiling..is that fancy spoil function workable from mobile? . I think your daughter's gonna be forced to leave if she's even caught holding a phone. In Newark, ushers threatened to kick us out after repeated warning for even holding a phone in our hands. Eek. Thanks for the info. I read Perfect Circle kicked out sixty for taking pics in Allentown the other day. Fans were saying constant security flashlights were more disruptive than cell phones I've definitely been annoyed by obnoxious phone use during shows, but bands need to understand reasonable enforcement. .

  12. This is how Peart used to feel when engaging a fan even for the briefest of moments Woulda been interesting in an alternate universe where Rush enjoyed only moderate success how standoffish alt-Neil would be with fewer fans.
  13. WHAT?!!! You mean fraroc is wrong?!! It HAD TO be Peart's fault!!!!! :P Peart demanded retirement, Lee accepted the reality handed to him I didn't get it when Geddy said this was the first time he has been off for six consecutive months It's not like Rush has been a touring machine the last 4+ years. 46 of the last 50 months have featured no Rush touring. Which is fine, I just didn't get that comment made now, maybe in 2013, but not 2017. .
  14. No he didn't. He clearly says the word "I" in reference to his extended hiatus. Maybe he's personally taking a break from pursuing any big musical commitments for a while. Guess we will find out tonight, but it surely seems to me by the tone of his answer that he is speaking of the band "ending". And it is only ending because Neil retired. I could be wrong but that is not what I got out of it. Again, we will see tonight. So where does the "denial" come into play? You seem to be implying that Geddy can't accept Neil is retired. He should just call it what it is I'm pretty sure he did. Again, it's almost certainly the case that Geddy's hiatus doesn't have anything to do with Neil at this point. Like I said, perhaps Geddy is referencing a decision to take a break from any big musical commitments for the time being. I somehow doubt he was implying that he's just waiting around for Neil to wise up. Maybe, maybe not. Its all speculation but that's how it comes across to me. Again, we will find out tonight. Interesting Geddy referred to himself being on extended hiatus and not retired. But, when Rather asked him at the end if he would ever tour in the future to support his own material, Geddy's demeanor changed completely. Boy did he get defensive. .
  15. PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ANYTHING!!! How is me telling you the last 10-15 minutes is worth viewing a spoiler? I can’t control anyone else in this thread so I would advise you to stay out of it. I have posted no spoilers. I'm just a little bit confused...the show already aired? Are the spoiler rules going to be as complex as they were for R40?
  16. Here's a nicer display of the setlist for ya https://a.pomf.cat/jcsuhl.mp3 The setlists before the summer break were better. Even if you want to spend $, alot of Fripps stuff is not on Amazon, and finding hq versions on you tube...hahahaha, save yerselv some time. Getting the recent triple album Radical Action is worth it (it's Jakko singing alot of older stuff), alot of that is in the show, but it ain't cheap. Even with the bummer changes, some impeccable tunes on that list: Pictures of a city Neurotica Epitaph Discipline ConstruKction Easy Money Court Level Five Starless Schitzoid And Jakko can sing it. Almost a modern day Lake. E: Red reappeared for the next show on the 21st. Thankfully. .
  17. I got an idea. Set your phones camera to full flash and start snapping away as the show begins. See what Bobby do.
  18. Not nearly enough. Did they get around to replacing that drummer dude yet?
  19. That is a LOT of Rush shows. /threadwinner That's Alex, silly
  20. Did not know the Netflix news. Brings something to look forward to on a sullen day Long time fan in NYC. Drove to Ottawa last year to see Gord live at least one more time, and experience The Hip with 22,000 fans at least once. Spoiled to have seen them in intimate city clubs for so many years.
