  1. I think Ghost sound like "Dream Theater" and "Spinal Tap" got together and had a baby.

    Alien Shore

Being a musician.....I can tell you the Alien Shore for Geddy is a very challenging tune. Playing that bass line while singing....really tough. I am sure they rehearsed it for that tour but something was not clicking. Same for Cut To The Chase. Sometimes they are simply studio cuts and they don't capture it live like they want to. It took them 35 years to finally play Jacobs Ladder again. And it was glorious. But something had to not be clicking with all three of them to have it locked up for so long. It was requested all the time. So glad they busted that out on R40. It was the highlight of my night. And one of the best of my Rush concert going experience's. I think it was simply the time factor that kept Jacob's Ladder out of the set list for many years. I'm actually surprised it didn't make a comeback when the started playing "Natural Science" again regularly. They could easily have swapped them out for each other on different nights. It's also a possibility that one of them wasn't very fond of it. It was certainly a gift to the fans to play that it on R40. It was probably the highlight of the night for me also.

    Alien Shore

I would much have rather they played "CTTC" instead of "Cold Fire" on the Counterparts tour. It's funny how serious us fans take this stuff compared to the artist. I could see Geddy saying "Oh yeah, let's see...hmmm that was off of...Count...yeah, Counterparts." "We may have considered it for the set list at some point". "So...people really seem to like that song?" How true that is. I'm sure many fans were flabbergasted that Geddy had to be reminded that "Jacob's Ladder" had indeed been played live before the R40 tour (not to mention forgetting what city he was in at one point). It was their job. So many performances, sound checks, recording sessions, interviews etc. over the years. As fans, we only got to see the end result of many, many hours of their labor. I would think it's not a whole lot different from every "working man/woman" out there. Would they have rather been someplace else many times while they were performing as the collective entity called "Rush"? I have no doubt. Were there everyday distractions (family, friends, hobbies etc.) that put their thoughts far away from the concert stage while they were on tour? Certainly. As fans, we know more about the fruits of their labor than they do. I'm not surprised at all by that.
  4. I hate Big Generator with a passion. To me, it was proof that that version of Yes had absolutely no staying power, they were a one trick pony.
  5. 3). Still...You Turn Me On - ELP ("Every day a little sadder, a little madder, someone get me a ladder")
  6. The potential is certainly there for a good movie. Will they be able to pull it off? Who knows? My best guess is that it will suck. Bill and Ted 2 is still on the top of my list of worst films of all time that I've seen in a theater.
  7. I listened to "Clutching" just the other day. It's grown on me over the years after having not made a great first impression. It sounds a bit dated, but I can appreciate the music more now and fret over the opportunities that were lost when they parted ways with Fish. They had a certain edginess that never returned once he was gone. I like some of the Hogarth stuff, but I find their music from the last 10+ years as being boring.
  8. My favorite is the "interjections" song, but they are all very catchy. I'm not sure I learned anything from them (I lie, I did learn the preamble from one of them), but they were enjoyable. To hear some interesting interjections, try going to the Linc in Philly and yell "Hooray !!!, I'm for the other team !!! " like they do in the song.
  9. I think that both Geddy and Alex already know the can of worms that would be opened if they did anything together musically from here on out. I could certainly see them both jamming with another act live, but as far as recording something together and/or touring together, the chance would be practically non-existent.
  10. I thought the original "Fly from Here" album lacked balls. I'll need to give it a listen with Trevor on vocals.
  11. To spice things up, you request that your wife dress like the girl on the cover of Permanent Waves. You then ask her if she's getting more of a 70's or 80's vibe from the outfit.
  12. Of course the movie was wimpified when compared to the book...that's what I was expecting. I still think the movie was okay though. One problem I did have was the uninspiring collection of songs they decided to include, especially the song over the closing credits.
  13. You name your French poodle "Le Studio".

    Enter the

It sounds like a flub which ended up left in the song as a joke. It's possible that Alex started the riff that follows a little early on one of the takes.
  15. I remember reading articles in Hit Parader magazine back in the early 80's about the reason that they didn't have any plans to release a live album. They said that they didn't feel that it would be interesting to the fans because the songs weren't presented a whole lot differently live than on the albums. My guess is that they didn't want to take the time that would have been necessary to put a live collection together and mix it. I feel It was a missed opportunity for them. A double live album from around the "Fair Warning" period would have sold like hotcakes. Rod...by the way, I loved your interview with Steve Hackett. That was some great stuff.
  16. I'm pretty sure this is one of the signs of the apocalypse. Keith Richards hitting 80 is the next one.
  17. Musically...it's got to be Geddy. I think he was the driving force that decided how their style/sound changed from album to album. Think about it...if Geddy wasn't the driving force, why would Alex have mentioned in many interviews that he didn't understand why the guitar had to lose out once the heavy keyboards were introduced?
  18. Nobody...and I mean nobody criticizes boo-berry and gets away with it !!! That stuff was like crystal meth for my 12 year old brain. Luckily, I've been clean for about 40 years.
  19. Wow, it will be interesting to see who gets blamed for this one. Possibly miscommunication between the bridge designers and the group that moved the bridge into place (though you'd think that they would be one in the same).
  20. I'm no engineer, but can anyone out there explain how this sort of thing can happen in the modern age? All the engineering feats that have been accomplished in this country and a brand new pedestrian bridge collapses, killing six people. It appears that they were trying some new technique where they build the bridge next to the road and then rotate it when it was completed so that the road didn't need to be closed during construction. The bridge was built to withstand hurricane force winds and ends up not lasting more than five days. I just don't understand.
  21. This is the best response that I've ever seen on this forum. Congratulations laughedatbytime !!!
  22. The book is actually pretty good...it's not a literary masterpiece by any means (not even close), but the music/video game references make it hit home for someone my age (50+). The downside, as far as turning it into a film, is that those old references can be replaced easily enough to things more recognizable (and less geeky) without affecting the overall story even a little bit. I don't blame the makers of the film for doing just that. I just think that the film will not be as good to me as it could have been. The book is all action/adventure with a simple story so should translate easily enough into an entertaining movie otherwise.
  23. I loved the book, but knew there was absolutely no chance of the Rush references being retained in the movie. I would think that most of the retro references are being replaced by things that are recognizable to a wider audience. I'll still see the movie, but my expectations are not high for it.
  24. I appreciate COS as the stepping stone to greatness that it ended up being.
