That is hilarious!

It was the Rick onstage then... http://youtu.be/8QY9-_99b_4 For most of the show, yes. Pics and video seems to indicate that YYZ saw the '72 Jazz. As for the autotune comment, I am now curious to go back and relisten. I hope that it is truly not the case, but I won't hold my breath on it.

IMO the most perfect Rush epic is Hemispheres (Natural Science is competition, but that may be more of a mini-epic).
-
Is Hushed and Grim a good place for the Mastodon-curious to start? If you decide you like them enough, they are also a good concert.
-
My first guess would be that this is the reason for the sale.

The crowd may have been double the size between the times I have seen those bands, but I am not convinced that necessarily affects the energy level. I do not buy into the "intimate" thing the way a lot of other people do either, so that may be coloring my vision on this. I like Metallica as well, so this isn't a criticism of them as a band.
-
I suspect they will be several pretty pennies.

Given their tendencies towards type A personalities, I will agree with this. I saw Megadeth in September. Given Dave's speech before the encore, I would be surprised if he still possesses any animosity. I suspect he is thankful he is still alive. Good for him. I plan to see them again on this next run of dates they are on (and the tickets are CHEAP too. I may see it multiple times, for Megadeth brings more energy than Metallica as a performing band these days).

The trouble with Chicago VI is that it does have a couple of fantastic tracks on it. I like Chicago quite a bit, but The Doors win this one.
-
I picked S&A as the best because that is what I would grab to listen to right now. RtB is easily the worst Rush album of the 1990s and probably one of their three worst. It is about half great and half junk.

Me neither. I don't necessarily dislike that song, but I would hardly consider it to be Rush's best epic tune.

The Doors: Albums Elimination (FINAL ROUND, PLEASE VOTE!!!)
78jazz replied to _hi_water._'s topic in Music Of The Spheres
Probably the best album they did. That or Morrison Hotel. The one thing I will give the debut is that it is probably Morrison's best vocal performance in the studio. Jim's vocals on "The End" are chilling and amazing. There's a great story behind the recording of The End. Google it If this is either Morrison being on acid during the recording, Rothchild's comments to Bruce Botnick, or Morrison attempting to smash a TV while the 1966 World Series was on it, I am already aware. (I have been reading about this band for 30 years, so there is a lot of information I am aware of concerning them.) -

He gave an excellent performance in Altered States. RIP. -

The Doors: Albums Elimination (Round 7, SECOND TO FINAL ROUND)
78jazz replied to _hi_water._'s topic in Music Of The Spheres
It should have been out earlier. Strange Days may be their best album. -

Quantification is not a qualification. -
The Doors: Albums Elimination (Round 6)

That does not mean it is good. Even Krieger thought it was too commercial during discussions in 1971 of what to release as a single. Riders was the second choice after Madly. -

Yes to The WASP. No to Love Her Madly. -

Outside of the title track and the final track, what other songs would be iconic? (Note: This is a different discussion for me is side 1 was as good as side 2.) -

The Doors: Albums Elimination (Round 5)

Agreed. Waiting For the Sun has held up better than it was critically acclaimed at the time. I find the 2007 remix/remaster to be the best version. -

Somebody voted to eliminate Morrison Hotel?!?! -
The Doors: Albums Elimination (Round 3)

The Soft Parade makes me want to rip my ear off. Nothing is as bad as pretentious, poorly arranged lounge music. I will agree with this sentiment on An American Prayer, but I do think it is an enjoyable listen. Every Doors fan should have it and listen to it at least from time to time. As for the Soft Parade bit, I think that applies to Krieger's songs. Morrison's tunes still have the fire. I think The Soft Parade is a lot better than some want to give it credit for. I would dig it out to listen to before L.A. Woman. We can't send that album out fast enough. -

It's like the debut, but even better. -

At some point, I suspect I will have to start fighting for Strange Days.
