  1. I am not so sold on the idea that changing the string gauge would have solved that. I am with one person on another forum who has suggested that people can't pick out the string gauge consistently based on the sound alone.
  2. Would the word "mwah" apply for what you are describing here? To my ears, the word "boing" applies more to that Wal sound. As for the bit about the MP sound being overkill on a song like Turn the Page, I think an EQ may have sorted that out. That live sound on the Ric for something like Turn the Page I think would have been huge.
  3. There was a guy who did a bass cover of Time Stand Still on YT with a Walnut Rickenbacker bass. I think that Ric would have been sweet on HYF. I also think his black Wal sounded better than the red one.
  4. I thought most of it was Dallas with Phoenix as filler. Perhaps they did film the entire Phoenix show. I can't believe I forgot about that.
  5. If you mean professional CA video, I do not believe that until I see it.
  6. I think it would be nice to see, but I am not convinced it will happen (hence my bit about I will believe it when it happens).
  7. I think that would be nice, but I will believe it when it happens.
  8. I believe the story is that starting with either Hemispheres or Permanent Waves they would record a few shows each tour, and have captured every night since Counterparts. I wonder if they will eventually release them all for sale. I would buy at least some of them (and certainly more than just a few).
  9. Did a little digging and it was probably called UMB Bank Pavilion when I was there. I remember crossing the Mississippi River on the way in(for the first time) and I couldn't believe a river could be so wide...LOL! That would be the amphitheater on the west side of the St. Louis area.
  10. You think? I think he tends to sound like himself regardless of what he plays. He has such a processed tone that I doubt it would make too much difference. He gives whatever he plays the "Geddy" treatment for sure, but even on R40 Live on Roll The Bones - when he's playing a Precision, I can hear the difference pretty clearly, less so than when he was on the Thunderbird for Animate. I'm not a bass player (I prefer 6 over 4) so you probably have much more experience playing with both, but I can hear a lot more "punchy" bottom end coming out of the Precisions than I can out of the Jazzes. The low mids are certainly stronger on a Precision than a Jazz. I thought that '58 he used on this tour was one of the better sounding basses (by better, I mean top 3 or so). The Thunderbird may have been the best sounding of all of them.
  11. I believe it is currently Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone Amphitheater.
  12. They slightly remedied that now with two lanes each direction going out to interstate. You are right. It used to be a two lane country road getting out of there. It is good for the locals that this was fixed. My buddy and I drove about 500 miles one way to catch that, and I do not see any act catching my ear enough for me to make that drive again for that venue. Where did you come from? KC.

  14. I saw Roger Waters there in 2006. The place was PACKED, and getting in/out of the place was awful.
  15. This, but minus the friends part. I am a little bummed I will never see them perform again, but at least I was able to see them do that. Plus, they owe me nothing so I'm good. I am also curious about this. I wonder if a solo album from Geddy will happen sooner rather than later. I suspect the other 2 knew this before Neil said anything in the article.
  16. For my money, he fronted the most versatile band of the big 5 that ruled at that time. I have listened to "And So I Know" more than once upon hearing this news. I can't see any of the others doing this song and nailing that style.
  17. I'm always on the lookout for good bootlegs from the Signals tour, but I don't have that one - the ones I have skip January of 1983 altogether. I have the one from Worcester in December of 1982 and then it skips January and picks up with California on February 14 and 15, 1983. Because the tour did not resume until February 1983. As for the Signals tour, it would depend on what "quality" you are after. If we are talking sound, then yes your options may be limited. There are good performances that do not have good sound from this tour. Edited for clarity.
  18. For me personally I hear a notable difference in dynamic range with the vinyl master compared to their CD or digital master at least of the music I own in both formats. I'm not sure if its necessarily quieter on vinyl, but it does seem "cleaner" sounding in most cases. Then again, I'm just going by my own perspective and not necessarily by technical knowledge. I just received the Presto LP reissue as a birthday gift, and I was pleasantly surprised by the sound. Too bad about TFE; I was considering making other purchases based on this Presto LP.
  19. THIS X 1000. Easily the better of the 2 shows I saw. If Clockwork Angels on the CD was taken from this show, that makes sense. That song in particular was a fabulous performance.
  20. Me too. I was also at the Denver show, so that would make 3 out of the 4.
  21. Good. I still get my birthday present!
  22. I was fine with the CP shows not having Subdivisions. There was enough good stuff in there. I do wonder how The Pass would have sounded on that tour. Too bad DEW did not make the cut, as the rehearsal version was interesting. I do agree on the RTB set; it is my least favorite. HA!
  23. I have read some suggestions by those who went that it may have started on the Hemispheres tour. I *thought* it was the next tour, but I would have to dig out a boot to check. I think ytse is correct; if it had not started by then, certainly Signals shows indicate it was happening then.
