  1. Good album! If you like the song Show Don't Tell, make sure to listen to the Different Stages version... it rocks to a new level! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmcAxiogJKs
  2. Sounds like they put his voice through some effect like a flanger or phasor, something like that.
  3. Apologies if already posted: http://www.stltoday....1d9004af71.html Rush hints at last hurrah at sold-out Scottrade show (MOD EDIT: Please don't paste entire reviews into your posts. Just post a link to the original article.)
  4. Indeed: http://www.therushfo...the-title-2112/ Another interesting coincidence from that thread:
  5. One more thing! The bible chapter is "Job", which makes perfect sense if you consider that the "working men" of Rush consider their music to be a job. ... IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW... :rush: :Alex: :Neil: :geddy: :rush:
  6. Neil doesn't mention the bible in this 1976 article... http://www.2112.net/...760300creem.htm Their latest project is an epic science fiction slab called 2112, which will take up an entire side of their next album, due this month. Set in the city of Megadon on another planet (Earth having been snuffed in 2062) in the cartoon light of the future, it concerns a society where everything is controlled by quasi-religious Priests who take all their orders from gigantic banks of computers called Temples. All individuality and creativity have been stamped out and everyone treadmills out their lives in a cathode palsy of day-to-day nullness. ~The Temples totally control everything-work, education. even entertainment," says Neil, who came up with the entire conceptual whoopee cushion and wrote all the Iyrics. "All their music has been taken to the final limits of the average. It's total commercialism that's put out strictly for people to like." Luckily enough for the Megadunces, a curious young punk accidentally stumbles upon the ruins of a great university one day. He starts digging around in the rubble and comes across a room of perfectly preserved artifacts he's never seen before. Books, magazines, WIN buttons, hula hoops, records, the home version of Match Game '84-all kinds of things that don't exist in 2112. He keeps it a secret and goes back every night to sort through the cheese of the past. Then one night he makes the fateful discovery-an electric guitar-and eventually sets out to change the world. What finally happens is a "double surprise ending" according to Neil, who declined to fill in the details but assured me it's "a real Hitchcock killer."
  7. Oddly, if you use the King James Version (which IIRC was the most common one back then), the verse describes the band pretty accurately: "They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ." So: timbrel = percussion instrument harp = stringed instrument(s) rejoice = singing organ = synthesizer However I still have to listen to 1812 in its entirety to see what else Rush stole, other than the last two digits of the title, the cannon shots, and the "Overture" part of the title!
  8. Has Rush ever explained where the 2112 number came from? In my biblical readings, I noticed that there's a bible verse that seems relevant to both the number (21:12) and the fact that Rush is a band: Job 21:12 12 They sing to the music of timbrel and lyre; they make merry to the sound of the pipe. Also in 2112 Geddy sings "the meek shall inherit the earth" which is also from the bible. That being said, I didn't think Neil was very religious...
  9. Alex even played a giant slug. It was horrifying and thrilling at the same time! http://www.tuxboard.com/photos/2014/08/solo-guitare-limace-17.jpg
  10. Did you really do that? No doubt Geddy appreciated that as he and Alex are fans of David Lynch's films. EDIT: I was thinking of Eraserhead. Clockwork Orange was directed by Stanley Kubrick. Eraserhead... reminds me of the times I tried to grow my hair long... ugh, childhood memories! http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2008/08/15/eraserhead460.jpg
  11. So I said to Geddy, "heyo Dirky boy... don't mind if I call you Dirk do you? Lemme ask you Dirk, what's your secret to success?" His answer: http://www.quickmeme.com/img/a5/a50cebfeebe45df25540b2dd309aae4406ef94321e41f0103bc7521f77a23156.jpg
  12. I met Geddy backstage after the show. As usual, I embarrassed myself... http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/59459828.jpg
  13. Actual photo from Lincoln show. Yes, Geddy played a dog. http://www.sadanduseless.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/d7.jpg
  14. Nope, those memes are old at all... Modernized Trollface! http://sc.mogicons.com/share/troll-face-81.jpg
  15. Geddy himself has said Tai Shan is their worst song, so I doubt they would ever play it live!

  17. Thanks for the heads up, I posted it in the other thread!
  18. (Apologies if this is a repost...) Tulsa Concert - Review from Progarchy.com http://progarchy.com...-time-in-tulsa/ You’d think a band celebrating 40 years of touring and making music might sound a bit like a band that’s been touring and making music for 40 years. Not so with the seemingly ageless Rush who is arguably more relevant now than at any time of their career. The power trio hailing from Toronto, Canada that may or may not be calling it quits at the end of their current R40 tour got off to a stellar start on Friday at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK in front of a mostly sold-out crowd that watched them stroll back through their extensive catalog of albums starting with the present and ending in a makeshift high school gym. Singer Geddy Lee, at 61 years young, rocked his vocals the entire night and seemed to be having way too much fun on bass as he traded-out guitars on nearly every song. 20. I almost think famous people are "forced" to wear wigs... because people expect them to look the same as they did when they were young.
  21. It just occurred to me that an iPhone/Android combined with Google Hangout, could provide a live feed (REAL TIME!) of the concerts! Hell, even an audio-only feed would be pretty damn sweet. Note that Google Hangouts will permit an unlimited number of people to watch a feed. But since I'm not going... someone else will have to do it! Any volunteers? :)
  22. http://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2015-04-29/rush-neil-peart-tendonitis-tour-retirement " Alex Lifeson reveals drummer’s chronic tendonitis contributed to “final tour” decision – and considers possibility of writing soundtracks with Geddy Lee Alex Lifeson has revealed Rush drummer Neil Peart has chronic tendonitis – and it’s a contributing factor in their decision to end large-scale touring. Peart has mentioned the condition before, and his bandmates have previously said the physical nature of his performance makes it challenging to continue into his 60s. The Canadian giants recently announced their upcoming North American tour was likely to be the last of its kind. Lifeson tells Global News: “I have mixed feelings about it. In one way I feel relief – I think 40 years is a long time to be touring the way we tour. “I still love playing. But in Neil’s case, for example, his job is really tough. Playing the way he does is very, very difficult on his body. He has chronic tendonitis in his arms and he’s had problems with his shoulders. “It’s getting to the point, no matter how much we love doing it, that it’s much more demanding and much more difficult.” Lifeson has been rehearsing up to four hours a day ahead of weeks of full band rehearsals and a week of full production performances before the tour. He says: “We rehearse ourselves to death. But it’s worth it. You hit the stage on that first night and you feel like you’ve already been playing for a month.” And the guitarist believes there’s more to come when the tour ends – even if it’s just from Geddy Lee and him. He says: “Ged and I are just itching to get back into writing, for whatever purpose. We’ve always talked about doing some soundtrack work. “Neil wants to take time off and spend more time with his daughter. He’d like to be more connected to his home life. I don’t blame the guy.” Lee said in February: “We have to slow down, and slow down dramatically” – but added that he could see a future for the band in a lower-key format.
  23. Are the rumors true that this is the first part of an "album trilogy?" I understand the next two albums will be titled, "Soggy", and then "Saturated." Perhaps then, they will finally reveal their (alleged) corporate relationship with Depend Incorporated. http://www.depend.com/images/products/19183.png
