  1. QUOTE (physics23 @ Jun 16 2005, 07:21 AM) Ever notice how the intro to Guns n' Roses' "Sweet Child o' Mine" sounds strangely like the intro to Rush's "Xanadu"? And that the riff in Coldplay's "Clocks" is oddly reminiscent of the synthesizer riff in "Countdown"? I wonder if there are more. The drumming in the chorus part of spider webs by No doubt is pretty similar to the second passage in Natural science. close to the same tempo as well hmmm.... It hit me the first time i heard it and reminds me still to this day. can ya hear it?
  2. QUOTE (paganoman @ Nov 26 2004, 10:40 PM) Ok folks. Over the years of listening to every niche and detail of Rush tunes. I've heard some incredible sounds nestled within the layers. It could be a slight slide on a guitar string, or a keyboard trigger, or a sound effect... What cool stuff have you heard that would normally escape a casual ear? As I think through some tunes I'm sure I'll remember or find plenty.. but to get things started, here's a few from the top of my head.Totem - during the 2nd chorus in parallel with Geddy singing the word Monsters.... there is this twang sound in the background. Listen carefully for it.Secret Touch - at precisely 4:00, have your balance all the way on the Left channel. Awesome little slide sound from what I think is the guitar.Roll The Bones - During the final chorus, has anyone ever noticed the 'skeleton' saying "Because we're here" along with the vocals? You have to listen really hard, but it's there. It's the same "Because we're here" that blares out at the end of the live version. It's actually easier to make out as the music is fading.I have some others, but would like to hear from you!! What stuff have you heard? Also, tell me what you think about the three I mentioned above. The music underneith the violin solo in Losing it comes to mind. Its an inhanced version of the music under the vocal line in the second verse. quite graphic for sure. Another lil but huge effect in a song is the way da boys used such subtle music behind the discription of a war then the loud punchy hard rock sound during the silence of that war coming to a complete stop in Hemispheres. Brilliant comcept indeed!

  4. QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Apr 22 2005, 10:14 AM) I have a Rush shirt that has the Starman logo and says "Tour 1976" at the bottom, and Rush at the top. And every time I go somewhere wearing that shirt I have at least a few people come up to me and ask me why I am wearing a pentagram. I usually respond by drawing them a correct pentagram and telling them that what I am wearing is just the harmless logo of my favourite band. Sometimes they dont believe me. My mother (Who is a Christian Southern Baptist) also recently questioned me about the "Sign of Satan" on the shirt. Once again I told her a pentagram has crossing lines, and drew her one. She just said "I'll look into that later"... It gets really tiring when nobody I know has heard of the band, so instead of saying something about them they just question me about being satanic or something. Sometimes I say "Yes, I do worship Satan daily. While listening to three Canadian men play incredible Prog music." Nobody even knows what Prog is. Does this happen to anyone else? I can see your irritation with the way it is asked... They automaticly conclude the emblem is satanic. They dont even ask if it is... I feel for ya ! but hey You know better. like they say opinions are like As*%#oles! everyones got one no matter how ignorant it is! DrumDragon

  13. QUOTE (RushRevisited @ Aug 23 2004, 10:40 PM) What do you think is the best song from this album? I'm gonna be in a coma after all these polls. this LP is full of faves but the most meaningful for me is losing it. Some are born to move the world , to live their fantasy. but most of us just dream of things we'd like to be . sadder still to watch it die and never to have known it. for you the blind who once could see, the bell tolls for thee! I have this pinned up on the wall of my Drumming school. words to live by for sure.....and the violin solo is amazing!
