  1. QUOTE (PuppetKing2112 @ Aug 21 2005, 10:02 AM) *The Who - Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 (an improbement over Leeds, IMO...they do a few Lifehouse/Who's Next songs like "I Don't Know Myself," "Water," and "Naked Eye," plus a full Tommy! Can't go wrong.) I dislike this one (ESPECIALLY the DVD) because the band plays so horribly. They're off rhythm, sloppy, and constantly off pitch. But you're right in that because it has a great setlist it's more than worth getting. IMO the performance at Leeds was much better, and if you get the expanded version it has the full Tommy too.
  2. The most memorable live recording I have ever heard is The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East. Other awesome concert albums: Peter Gabriel - Plays Live The Who - Live At Leeds Yes - Yessongs Robin Trower - Live Grand Funk - Caught in the Act Genesis - Live Miles Davis - At Plugged Nickel V.S.O.P. - The Quintet Jethro Tull - Bursting Out
  3. I recommend the big Texas three; King's X - the famous one Galactic Cowboys - the cult-famous one Atomic Opera - the indie-famous one
  4. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 6 2005, 05:35 PM) The verses of Shania Twain's exclaimation point anthem "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" and Aerosmith's classic "Uncle Salty" are very much alike. Seriously! Yeah, you're all making that "yeah, right" face right now, so I made a little clip of both verses put together. Here's proof that Shania and hubby Mutt Lange are thieves. Uncle Salty-Shania clip This is the first one that came to my mind. Classic ripoff!
  5. On "Our Song" by Yes (from 90125), they totally steal a riff from "Carry On Wayward Son" (not the main riff, the transitional one right after it).
  6. QUOTE (Moonraker @ Aug 6 2005, 04:46 PM) Same thing goes with cover songs. If an artist is going to cover another artist, they need to make it perfectly clear that they are not the ones who wrote the song. I cant tell you how many little people I've met who think No Doubt wrote "Its My Life" or *cringes* think Limp Bizkit wrote "Behind Blue Eyes". Or the Goo Goo Dolls wrote "Give a Little Bit" . . .
  7. QUOTE (bytorcygnus @ Aug 2 2005, 08:43 PM) QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Aug 2 2005, 05:39 AM) QUOTE (Arndrake @ Aug 2 2005, 10:35 AM) The entire album is great with no bad songs, just like Dark Side IMHO. I know some people will think I'm deranged, but I think WYWH is far superior to Dark Side Not deranged at all, sir! Everyone has their own opinions. Here's one you probably don't ever hear. I consider myself a lifelong, long-time Pink Floyd fan and what I consider my favorite work of theirs is probably unusual to many. I've heard it all...but to me Wish You Were Here, Animals, and Dark Side are my 3 faves out of the whole catelogue. To me Animals is simply PF at their best...the mixture of sounds, lyrics, timing, etc. only as Pink Floyd can do it! Wish You Were Here is a very close second. I would put The Wall as my 4th favorite....but my number 5 would probably be Divison Bell..strangely enough. I don't ever seem to hear much praise for this album, and I know some die hards don't even consider it PF since someone's missing, but I love it! Go figure....Wearing the Inside Out and Coming Back to Life are two of my fave PF tunes. Anybody else feel this way? Tell me I'm not crazy... You must be hanging out with the wrong crowd. I know plenty of people who love Div Bell. Your favorite isn't strange either. I also know plenty of people with the same favorite.
  8. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Aug 1 2005, 09:04 PM) One of the best albums EVER.
  9. I'd give this one to Wish You Were Here. A touching classic. To me the whole album actually flows as one song.
  10. I'm pretty sure the first album I bought was a cheap version of the Return of the Jedi soundtrack.
  11. I've certainly heard them quite a bit, but I can't stand any of their output. I can't get into PH's vocals and I don't like the music.
  12. R.I.P. Scotty! It's finally you that has been beamed up.
  13. QUOTE (Moonraker @ Jul 3 2005, 09:12 PM) QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Jul 3 2005, 09:31 PM) K we know Syd named the band after two obscured bluesmen named Pink Anderson and Floyd Council..what I want to know is has anybody ever heard any recordings by these guys? I've been looking for some since I found this out back in the 80's and still haven't heard any music by them...Even with the advent of downloading on the net I still can't find even a snippet of music...Anybody else ever heard these guys? http://support.uni-oldenburg.de/~floyd/eng...ml#PinkAnderson http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/test4vitalsigns/more%20gifs/pinkan.gif Pink Anderson http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/test4vitalsigns/more%20gifs/floydco.gif Floyd Council Thats IT! I'm starting a band named Anderson Council. Not if I copyright it first!
  14. I'm familiar with all Floyd - in fact I own all their albums - and it ain't out of ignorance that I say "I find Piper to Ummagumma to be utter crap." My favorite era is definitely the "popular" era of Meddle to The Wall. My favorite album, although not the best work in my opinion, is Animals. I enjoy TFC and the Gilmour Floyd (especially The Division Bell) as well...
  15. I've never been a huge fan of Heart . . . But I can dig 'em when I want to.
  16. How bout the new STYX album? Covers . . . Everyone from the Beatles to Procol Harum.
  17. You guys don't take everything seriously, do you?
  18. QUOTE (dweezil @ May 22 2005, 10:35 PM) Here is an arbitrary Top 10 list of plot turn peculiarities that, if nothing else, can generate healthy debate amongst the uber-fans: Screw it all! It's a movie, for God's sake, not reality! To quote Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest: There is no "quantum flux". There's no "auxiliary". THERE'S NO GODDAMNED SHIP. You got it?
  19. Wow. You guys are good. My SW geekiness has unfortunately decreased over the past few years - used to know all of this stuff. What was the name of the actor that played "Stormtrooper 3" in A New Hope?
  20. ABSOLUTELY can't wait for this one! Chronicles of Narnia as well...
  21. Lost is so awesome . . . And now it's pretty much over.
