  1. I had a situation like this recently and this is what I told my friend to listen to (to start) Working man Fly by night 2112 Spirit of radio Xanadu Freewill Tom Sawyer YYZ Distant early warning Big money Force ten Far cry Caravan He really liked them so I gave him a CD with some other songs that he has also enjoyed. He's getting into Rush, which has been awesome to see as his friend!!! :rush:
  2. Even though GUP was smothered in keybaords, Alex had some great guitar solos throughout the album. Distant early warning, The body electric, Kid gloves, and between the wheels are all some of my faves. A passage to bangkok, strangiato, freewill, and AFTK are some others.
  3. YES! This song is great! Hearing it live would be amazing. And while we're on the subject of GUP, let's add Afterimage, The enemy within, and Between the wheels to the R41 setlist. Kid gloves has a very dynamic ending, and it would work great as a closing song for the second set. The only question is why haven't they played songs like Afterimage and Kid gloves at all since the GUP tour? They're FANTASTIC songs! Does the band not like GUP or something???
  4. Fly by night- WOW Geddy can sing high here By-Tor and the snow dog- WOW somebody was high here Bastille day- WOW Geddy can still sing high The Necromancer- WOW somebody is still high Tears- Why Geddy shouldn't write lyrics Strangiato- Lerxst at his best Natural science- Sounds like Cygnus X-1 book III YYZ- "Showing off" New world man- How is THIS their only hit? Distant early warning- Let's not talk about that video.. Afterimage- Where's the bass? The body electric- Subdivisions part two Between the wheels- Between the underrated Mystic rhythms- No, just no Force ten- What up wit dat intro? Roll the bones- Betcha can't top this, Eminem! One little victory- Rush is back, baby! Freeze- FEAR SERIES is back, baby! Far cry- Typical Rush: Amazing Headlong flight- Bastille day/By-Tor 2.0 The Garden- Are you allowed to cry during a Rush song?
  5. As much as I love SOR, I believe that it really only fits to start the show (or the encore). On Time Machine they played it as their opener, and it had a lot of energy and, well, spirit. When they stuck it right smack in the middle of a set for the Clockwork tour, it didn't really have that effect. For R41 I'd like to see Dreamline as the opener, and if they do play SOR, put it as the first encore song. Otherwise don't play it at all.
  6. As a huge Orioles fan, I was obviously watching the game when I realized that it was Geddy sitting behind the plate, not some creepy impostor. I did feel bad when we crushed him that game. Go O's! :rush:
  7. Man I'm tired of hearing that Lol at least I didn't add stuff like Fly by night and Farewell to kings, which would just sound awful and end Geddy's singing career a good five years early
  8. A while ago I posted my ultimate Rush concert setlist, which received overwhelmingly negative criticism, with some people accusing me of “trying to destroy Geddy’s voice” and stuff like that. But after a few months of listening to deeper material and noticing trends in recent tours, I have put together a setlist that I hope will satisfy everyone and not bring up any problems. R41 anybody? Set one Dreamline Entre nous Limelight Superconductor Bravado Vital signs Cygnus X-1/Hemispheres instrumental medley Driven Vapor trail Animate New world man Set two The enemy within The weapon Witch hunt Freeze Kid gloves Drum solo/The anarchist Broons bane/Closer to the heart Far cry Headlong flight Subdivisions 2112 (overture/finale)/YYZ Afterimage Time stand still The garden Encore The spirit of radio Tom Sawyer Marathon Like the recent Clockwork Angels tour, this setlist features a lot of deeper tracks from their 80’s catalogue, such as “Kid gloves” and “Entre nous”. The FEAR series is played in its entirety for the first time, and “Broons bane”, a classical guitar piece Lerxst used to begin “The trees” with, serves as the intro to “Closer to the heart”. And finally, there are fan favorites from the 70’s and 90’s included, as well as newer material ranging from Vapor trails to Clockwork angels. I really like this setlist, and seeing it live would be unbelievable. What do you all think?
  9. Yes, i know that rush is taking a year off from touring. However i still see them doing a late fortieth anniversary tour (R40 anyone?) when they return. So how should we spend this upcoming year while we wait for Rush to return? By creating the best setlists for the next tour. R30 was great, but they really focused on stuff from the late 80s and 90s, as well as their cover songs from feedback. This next tour should include songs from their early albums, as well as songs they havent played in a while (seriously, name the last time they played fly by night!). So heres my ultimate setlist, dominated with 70s and 80s classics, but still having more recent stuff peppered here and there. Set one Bastille day Time stand still Roll the bones Lessons OR making memories Vital signs One little victory Limelight The trees Subdivisions Medley combining cygnus x-1 and hemispheres Far cry Set two Tom sawyer Closer to the heart In the mood/drum solo Caravan Fly by night Farewell to kings YYZ Animate Spirit of radio Working man Red barchetta La villa strangiato (with polka intro from time machine tour) Encore Passage to bangkok Red sector A 2112 (overture+finale) Marathon
  10. I havent been seeing a lot of really smart or unbias lists for the top 50 greatest rush songs, so i decided to make one of my own. Its taken me about a week, but i finally finished. Its still a work in progress though and will probably be changed around some more in the future. Please enjoy and give feedback in the comments. I love to hear from other fellow rush fans! 1.
