  1. Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks A lesser songwriter attempting a similar thing would have such severely worse results it wouldn’t be worth a second listen. The record rides almost single-handedly on the power of Dylan’s voice and words, and it’s a masterpiece because of it.
  2. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield I think Firepower was better on first listen, but this is no disappointment at all. A reaffirmation that JP are still incredible. Particularly impressive guitar solos across the board, and somehow Rob sounds younger? Makes you wonder why more bands can’t be this great this late in the game. I imagine this will be a cut above any other new album from a “legacy act” I hear this year. For comparison, I’d spin this ten times before ever bothering with that latest Stones album again.
  3. I’ll probably come back to it once or twice, but more than safe to me it reeked of a lack of new ideas. I’ve heard them do everything on there before better. And worse in places, certainly. None of it was outright bad, but that’s not very interesting either. Shame to see them and Blink not managing to find anything more interesting to do at this age, meanwhile their offspring have found great artistic success recently leaning into unexplored aspects of their sound. Paramore went post punk, FOB got expansive and cinematic, and Panic wrote a love letter to the 70s and 80s.
  4. Caligula’s Horse - Bloom Refreshing Big Big Train - The Likes Of Us Lovely Green Day - Saviors Middling… honestly FOA gave me more enjoyment.
  5. Haven’t introduced myself to another Maiden record in a long time, but last I checked this is how I felt about the ones I know: 1. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son 2. Powerslave 3. The Number Of The Beast 4. Piece Of Mind 5. Brave New World 6. Somewhere In Time 7. Senjutsu 8. The Final Frontier
  6. I’ve submitted this video to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest this year. I figure I should share it around as well, so here’s one of the better songs I’ve ever written imo: https://youtu.be/bUN2hMQihGk?feature=shared
  7. This is the only record of theirs I’ve heard but I love it dearly.
  8. Dashboard Confessional - Dusk And Summer David Wilcox - The Very Best Of David Wilcox
  9. I went through a very long stretch of not being into it at all after I first heard it. Like a decade or something, lol. Then all of the sudden it clicks for me. I know why, but wow, what a long wait.
  10. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy Somewhere between Florence + The Machine and Lana Del Ray.
  11. Finally started playing catch up with new records today: Strangers That Clique - The Heavy After Hours Local funk/rock/hip hop/jazz band featuring my former vocal coach. I think this is their debut album. Totally self produced from my understanding. Not perfect but I dig the wealth of ideas. Kali Uchis - Orquídeas Latin American dance music of a variety of more specific sub genres, but the way Kali weaves vocal hooks together is mesmerizing. Can’t understand Spanish so idk what it’s all about but I really enjoyed it. Glass Beach - Plastic Death Prog prog prog. Basically for anyone who wishes Radiohead would pick up their guitars again and do a *real* prog opus this time (not that anything they’ve done since OKC isn’t *really* progressive imo) The Smile - Wall Of Eyes Speaking of Radiohead, may as well check in on Thom and Johnny’s side project (main project at this point?). And well? It definitely sounds a lot like I’d expect a Radiohead album to sound in 2024, but with a little more pep in its grooves and bite in its tones.
  12. Oh I don’t think any bad or too slick record is gonna change Speak Now and Red for me. I’ll definitely check those two out. Sorry you went through that, and I’m grateful Taylor helped you through.
  13. My initial Taylor craze cooled off a bit. Not super like me to go listen to everything in quick succession and I think I realized that, so I’m still just on Red and Speak Now… but wow those two records are gonna stay with me my whole life.
  14. Little Fuss - Girls At Parties Bad Idols - Popstar Jawbreaker - Dear You
