  1. I thought that was for me...I was the last one to post an assignment before that post, and though I neglected to include a link, the assignee (Digital Dad) accepted the assignment. Help?
  2. Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond Yes - Union Aerosmith - Get Your Wings Muse - The Resistance 'Sall for now.
  3. Rest or live for the end of the year? One of those would be an incredibly shallow thing to say Sorry if that came off shallow. I hope he lives decades more still, I'm just really fed up with losing rock stars this particular year. And the get some rest was meant more as a sympathetic suggestion to take care of any health issues he's facing rather than a mean comment in any way.
  4. Please live. Get the issue fixed up, go get some rest, and just keep living. At least through the end of the year.
  5. Love it. Though I would switch SHA with ANATO and Jazz with ADATR. Still thats niggling cuz they are all pretty much great. Thanks! Though ANATO's never ever coming off that top spot for me. Fav album of all time. They are all great though; Hot Space deserves much more love. Now I just have to figure out where the heck to put Made In Heaven, listen to Flash Gordon, and place that one too.
  6. For Digital Dad: Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond (I do believe it's self-titled, if it's not though then it's whatever their very first album is)
  7. Aerosmith Bowie, David Coldplay Dream Theater Electric Light Orchaestra Foo Fighters Genesis Hendrix, Jimi Imagine Dragons John, Elton Kaleo Led Zeppelin Muse No Doubt Oasis / Of Monsters And Men (can't choose, too different, too equal) Pink Floyd QUEEN Rush Supertramp (sorry Segue, I like Bruce now but not quite this much) Thirty Seconds To Mars U2 Van Halen Weezer ...The xx? ???? I literally just started listening to them because I needed an X band and had heard of them before. Yes ZZ Top
  8. I think I've finally decided on my ranking of Queen through Innuendo, minus Flash. Here it is. 1.A Night At The Opera 2.Queen II 3.News Of The World 4.Sheer Heart Attack 5.The Miracle 6.Innuendo (despite some lesser quality and consistency, beats out all the rest based on super-enhanced sentimental value of living with it through the most roller-coaster like part of high school; loses to the ones above based on lack of being approximately perfect track by track and production wise) 7.A Day At The Races 8.A Kind Of Magic 9.Queen 10.The Works 11.Jazz 12.The Game 13.Hot Space (still underrated!)
  9. The lead singer for The Guess Who. Seriously under appreciated. These Eyes...woah.
  10. Post a good video for it. Not particularly good with the whole posting vids thing, could someone else?
  11. Did we all forget to mention Xanadu yet?
  12. Brian? Dissatisfied with his guitar performances? I can't possibly...at all...begin to imagine what more he could've done guitar wise. I mean...woah. Now certain lesser examples of his songwriting could always use a wee bit of work, but not much.
  13. It's the last Beatles album were it sounded like they were actually having fun. Well, I hear a lot of fun on Abbey Road, but there can be something rather sterile about Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, and Magical Mystery Tour (haven't heard the White Ablum). Yes, Abbey Road recaptured the early magic of the band, that's the main reason why it's great. That explains it. Early magic recaptured plus later experimentalism and production techniques mastered = Abbey Road, my fav Beatles album. Rubber Soul I think is def second fav now that I've gotten farmiliar with it. In the end, it's all about the song, great collections of songs. Interesting mentality. I don't think anything on Sgt. Pepper's can possibly stand up to In My Life or Here Comes The Sun for one, so there may be something to that. The greatness of Sgt. Pepper: The title track A Little Help From My Friends Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds She's Leaving Home A Day In The Life Shoot the rest. The "rest" could possibly validate and cement the careers of less successful bands. Sgt. Pepper's is a great album, maybe not the Beatles' best, but still great. Remember, the initial concept was thrown out the window as soon as they decided to release "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" as a singe. George Martin always regretted that decision. This is not my opinion at all and I hate the rest of those songs. Just as you hate the ever so popular and long lasting music of Bon Jovi I too hate this overhyped and painfully lopsided collection of great songs and self indulgent crap. I will praise things from my perspective as I have too strong a hatred for the rest of the album to dare be entertained by the thought that the populist opinion can only be the right opinion. I don't think Sgt. Pepper's reputation is benefiting from any populist opinion. In fact, I think the album's reputation has lessened the past several decades, replaced by current go to albums OK Computer and Pet Sounds and New Jersey. No way New Jersey gets the same kind of praise as either of those albums.

I'm a fan of the quirkiness of the more fillery tracks as well actually, but from a certain viewpoint that's fairly accurate.

  16. I do also believe Ringo has been falsely underrated for simply having a much less obviously complex rock style than pretty much any other rock drummer. The whole left handed thing really gives him a unique feel, and he rarely put to little of himself into a song if you just listen. I must vouch for John Deacon here, my second favorite bassist ever. Freddie's more than amazing for sure, but if you can just listen beyond the vocals there is so much magic hiding beneath the surface in that band.
  17. I honestly think an artist like Hendrix can be regarded as underrated. His innovation and technique is basically normal nowadays after decades of influence, so I can understand if later generations of music fans aren't that impressed. I actually wasn't impressed when I first heard him since I'd already been exposed to bunches of guitarists who came after him. When you really listen though, there's a spirit in his playing that's just unimitable.

  19. Here's a new thread idea (I hope). What are some musicians you feel are unfairly underrated by the music community or otherwise and why?

  21. Whether or not Zep "stole" the guitar intro, Zep obviously did an insanely better job marketing it to people and connecting with an audience with that music than the other band did. Plus it's been how many years now? This is honestly a really dumb trial. Stairway's more than a classic at this point, it's rock and roll DNA, why mess with it now?
  22. Not that anything by this band could be technically underrated, but in comparison with praise for their other albums... Rubber Soul
