  1. Dark Side was the first album I decided I needed to listen to twice in a row after hearing it the first time. I have not yet heard any Floyd outside of the big four (only two of which I actually own) and Piper.
  2. I actually prefer Taylor Hawkins, but mostly because I mainly listen to the Foos out of the bands Dave has drummed for, and Dave only drums on two food albums. I'm pretty sure Dave can pull of everything Taylor can (like on Best Of You or anything off of Wasting Light), but the fact is that Hawkins does it.
  3. I think you need to listen more closely to the drumming of Roger Taylor, Ringo Starr and Dave Grohl. Roger Taylor especially. If you can call anything he does on the first few Queen albums "beat drumming," then I suppose Neil Peart must be one too.
  4. I don't want to be spoiled about what they're playing. It's got to be a surprise. I've got to be speculating and wondering for months so it will live up to the hype. but what i they play some deep cuts? That would be incredible! Like, Son And Daughter would be so much fun, or Dragon Attack, or Dead On Time, Let Me Entertain You, Ogre Battle, Sheer Heart Attack, It's Late, Who Wants To Live Forever, Teo Torriate, I Can't Live With You, the possibilities are endless!!!!! ...but they do have a lot of hits to play so...lol, it'll probably just be all the American hits with the essential 80s/90s songs. But what if???
  5. Also I got the 6 CD On Air box for Christmas. It's excellent, interviews and all. I'd heard a number of the sessions before, sure, and the number of versions of Ogre Battle and Son And Daughter now on my iPod is kind of hilarious, but it's well worth it. Like someone said early the sessions are incendiary indeed, and the live bits are equally thrilling. Especially notable is It's Late, which has the weirdest possible bits of Get Down, Make Love surgically inserted into it to make it something like the epic I thought it would be when I first saw the run time on NOTW, lol. Anyway this is a great set and QUEEN REIGNS!!!!! YES YES YES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR YES!!!!!
  6. Needs more guitar, looser songs, and a bit more authenticity...but they are pretty great, especially that frontman.

  10. Someone who still uses a rank each song system and still feels huge emotional impact from listening to full albums might disagree with you there. I said small minds think ONLY in numbers, that wouldn't be the person you describe. My mistake I suppose. I took you as meaning anyone who uses such a system is removing the emotional impact albums might have on them, which I found very unlikely if not just false. I suppose if one becomes too obsessed with rankings and ratings the emotional impact can get lost in the shuffle, but I think most people are a little less obsessive about it than that.
  11. I actually really only know that name from "Buddy Holly" (Weezer), but that is sad. R.I.P.

  13. I usually only try doing ten point or star ratings of things when I'm ranking albums or songs against each other and having a hard time deciding. However, I also discovered this isn't always as reflective of my opinion towards an album as I think it will be, because there's no reason for News Of The World not to be my favorite Queen album by the systems I used, yet I know I could never rank it ahead of A Night At The Opera.
  14. Bizarre. The RIver is a stone cold classic. As is Born to Run. Darkness and The Wild Innocent are also pretty solid throughout. To you. To me they're boring. Sorry to hear that...but I'm glad you tried them! I've listened to a big variety of music over the years because so many of my friends are musicians and have exposed me to lots of things I might not ordinarily listen to. I used to have a friend that was a big Bruce fan so I heard a lot of his music. While I can certainly appreciate it and I think it's OK, it's just not something that appeals to me to listen to repeatedly. I used to kind of hate Bruce, so I get that. I would still probably hate Bruce if I hadn't let my curiosity get the better of me and I hadn't reached out to Segue about where to start...BTR hooked me almost immediately, and now I even enjoy most of BITUSA (the one with all the songs I hated), though I could still probably do without Glory Days....just too much hick culture there.
  15. I enjoy weighing the difference between "favorite" and "best". I know that some of my favorite music (DEVO, X, April Wine) isn't the "best" music, but somehow I'm moved by it more than other bands. I think it's a pretty interesting and common scenario among music lovers to differentiate between favorite and best as such. I run into this in my own experience with Rush. Officially speaking, my favorite Rush song is Cygnus X-1 Book I, unquestionably...but if you ask me what their best song is I am so much more inclined to say 2112. I decide that Cygnus actually means more to me or is more optimal for me to identify with, but I cede that 2112 is quite probably the better song by my own standards. Paradox?
  16. I think someone with actual OCD might be offended if I told them I thought I had some form of OCD cuz I like to categorize and favoritise my music. On a scale of 1-10, how offended? Anywhere between 389 and -45790...give or take a decimal point.
  17. I think someone with actual OCD might be offended if I told them I thought I had some form of OCD cuz I like to categorize and favoritise my music. I have OCD and am not offended. I actually think to a degree she might be correct! Fair enough, perhaps I'm just being too cautious. I've heard stories of people with OCD being offended by others using the term where is doesn't apply before.
  18. I want to ask "you're joking, right?" But somehow I know you aren't, in which case I'm sorry you hate seven, seeing as it was made as the ultimate crowd pleasing movie attraction that was supposed to be liked by pretty much everyone and get everyone back on board for a new Star Wars trilogy. I was certainly skepticle for a very long time and very angry that Disney bought SW (still kind of am actually), but I can't see anything but perfection in seven's writing and execution, the hype and promotion included. I'm also not really sure how you could say Mark Hamill (being one of the originals) was particularly better than any of the new actors in that movie acting wise, seeing as he was in it for all of one minute. Really, the only actor in that movie I find debatable is Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and he could certainly be much worse.
  19. I realize how old this is, but it's awesome. I wholeheartedly agree.
  20. Wearing my Fly By Night shirt today.
  21. As someone pointed out earlier in this thread, Led Zeppelin did release an official album with Jason Bonham on drums. Did we ever come to a consensus on if the LZ album counted? I feel like that topic got lost in the Queen debate. Why wouldn't it count? Because it's a live album? Ehhh. It seems too far removed from the original thing. I say they count. Now if they had toured and recorded a new studio album with Jason Bonham on drums.... But it's called Led Zeppelin, not Led Zeppelin + Jason Bonham! Maybe we could call it Led Zeppelin* That isn't what they called it though. ReRushed is right. If we're gonna use that argument to say Queen still does count, then we can't ignore it to say Led Zeppelin counts. The only thing I could think of to keep LZ in now is whether or not we're counting live albums. Did the op say just studio albums or do tours and live releases count as well? Live albums have to count. There are far too many live albums that define a band. As for Led Zeppelin, the line-up changed, they re-united and released an official album and dvd. ...yeah...yeah I agree. Definitely. But at least they used to count and had counted for a very very long time.
