  1. Welcome IwillchooseFreeWill!!!! Glad to have you with us!!! :D My dad had recorded the first verse of CTTH off of the radio and set it as his new ringtone back when I was just getting into music. This was in sixth or seventh grade probably...maybe eighth actually. Anyway I heard it one day and asked who the girl was that was singing that....the rest is obviously my history. I'd probably heard one of the "hits" on the radio before that, but I have no recollection of that.
  2. Didn't see a thread for this, so sad. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/butch-trucks-dies/
  3. Not a big fan of The Wall. Still need to obtain the Lamb. Almost certain I'll like The Lamb more so I'm voting for it.
  4. I give no reason or precedent. Choose any song/album/video of Taylor Swift you want. No pictures though, that's cheating.
  5. Big enough? I like the three songs of theirs I know (is it three or two?), but I can't recall ever hearing they were a particularly great or important band. Of course, this has reminded me of perhaps another one. Not Jefferson Airplane, not Starship, but Jefferson Starship? Jane Jane Jane?
  6. Can you give me a good reason for that? What he's really saying is that he wants a Lita Ford poll of some sort. IMHO, I think your polls are fine. They've generated pages and pages of conversation. We can choose the ones we'd like to post in so yeah, I think you're doing well :hail: With no hard feelings towards zumbi, agreed. I mean, the constant polls are maybe a bit tiresome for some, but usually only when they have no interest in posting in the newest ones. Maybe it's just me, but when I see a poll I'm really interested in I don't care if it's the first one in years or the fifth one you've made today, I'm posting. Plus I've done worse. My old best guitar album thread had a reboot recently, but what even I forgot was that it was one of like twelve I made in the same day listing off all the possible sonic components on Rush albums. Lotta folks got tired of that real quickly.
  7. Boston is the first and has the best album with their perfect debut. Toto is a wild card that means not much of nothing to some and so much of everything to others. Journey, REO, Foreigner, and Styx are all the status quo and most successful of the classic AOR bands, and also the most similar to each other. I made a thread about that a while back. Asia are the least great of these IMO, though the first album is pretty great if not essential. Old prog legends trying to keep up with their AOR legacy but they don't quite get it, IMO. Out of these....I'd probably have to choose Boston or Styx, but I lean towards Boston for that debut.
  8. I think the eternal pact Earl was referring to was that Alex, Geddy, and Neil decided long ago there was no Rush without all three of them, but nothing against outside projects. I still think they could talk Neil into some short sessions close to home for one more album with no tour, just as a last little gift for those who refuse to let go (and especially those who didn't get to see R40). Instrumental would be awesome, but IMO Ged knows exactly how to write songs he can still sing the heck out of, so vocals are just as welcome. But if there is no last last album, we'll always have Moist. ;)
  9. I'm not sure how similar our lists would be, but you're totally cool dude. :)
  10. I've got that one on my wall in my room back home (put it up when I got the album cuz it was the coolest one) and I brought the other two to college. Plus I put the stickers on my guitar case.
  11. I always liked the drumming on those earlier Pumpkins albums. But I fail to see what separates them from Grohl in terms of 'greatness'. They would seem to be on par. Agreed. As examples, the snare fill in Today never gets old in the same way the tom fill in In Bloom never gets old. They're essential to their respective songs.
  12. Gah, I listened to The Game again last night, and while I enjoyed it more than ever, I've finally concluded the main issue is that side two doesn't live up to side one. Rock It is fun I guess, but a little monotonous and undynamic (minus the shift from the intro to the main track, but that intro is really kinda boring imo). Personally I would've ramped up the guitars a smidge and mixed down the vocals, maybe made a sparser rhythm track as well. Don't Try Suicide is still never as much fun at 33 as it is at 45, the speed it should've been in the first place. At it's original tempo, it creates a strange tension of tone between moody and whimsical which never quite settles for me. Sail Away Sweet Sister is still great, but still feels like a minor highlight than a major gem for some reason, idk, maybe if the song structure was a little looser. Coming Soon has much more texture than I remembered, but it's still just not a very good song. Certainly they could've thought of something to make it better? And lastly Save Me gives the album its saving grace. My favorite song from The Game, my tenth favorite Queen song ever. Queen try an honest to goodness, no unnecessary frills, pop rock pomp rock aor power ballad for the first time and make it one of the greatest things they'd ever done. Roger's playing is in top form, even if it's simplistic. Deacon's inventive bass accompaniment is as entertaining and surprising as ever, Brian's solo is yet another work of genius, fusing some semi-spanish acoustic picking with his usual guitar symphony but maintaining the sense of melody perfectly (and I think he's playing piano on this one too...), and then there's Freddie. He slays the vocal as always, but this is one special moment in his career where he sounds as desperate and dead serious as he would on Innuendo, when he actually was singing for his life. I mean, this is yet another example of how there are great rock singers, there are the best rock singers, there are the best singers...and then there's Freddie. Side one managed to grow on me a lot more though. I heard extra bits in I Need Your Loving that were entertaining, I heard deeper into Dragon Attack and realized how even more awesome it is, and the three hits were as pristine as ever (I never get tired of Play The Game in particular, another one of Freddie's best vocals and melodies).
  13. Dark Side was the first album I decided I needed to listen to twice in a row after hearing it the first time. I have not yet heard any Floyd outside of the big four (only two of which I actually own) and Piper.
  14. I actually prefer Taylor Hawkins, but mostly because I mainly listen to the Foos out of the bands Dave has drummed for, and Dave only drums on two food albums. I'm pretty sure Dave can pull of everything Taylor can (like on Best Of You or anything off of Wasting Light), but the fact is that Hawkins does it.
  15. I think you need to listen more closely to the drumming of Roger Taylor, Ringo Starr and Dave Grohl. Roger Taylor especially. If you can call anything he does on the first few Queen albums "beat drumming," then I suppose Neil Peart must be one too.
  16. I don't want to be spoiled about what they're playing. It's got to be a surprise. I've got to be speculating and wondering for months so it will live up to the hype. but what i they play some deep cuts? That would be incredible! Like, Son And Daughter would be so much fun, or Dragon Attack, or Dead On Time, Let Me Entertain You, Ogre Battle, Sheer Heart Attack, It's Late, Who Wants To Live Forever, Teo Torriate, I Can't Live With You, the possibilities are endless!!!!! ...but they do have a lot of hits to play so...lol, it'll probably just be all the American hits with the essential 80s/90s songs. But what if???
  17. Also I got the 6 CD On Air box for Christmas. It's excellent, interviews and all. I'd heard a number of the sessions before, sure, and the number of versions of Ogre Battle and Son And Daughter now on my iPod is kind of hilarious, but it's well worth it. Like someone said early the sessions are incendiary indeed, and the live bits are equally thrilling. Especially notable is It's Late, which has the weirdest possible bits of Get Down, Make Love surgically inserted into it to make it something like the epic I thought it would be when I first saw the run time on NOTW, lol. Anyway this is a great set and QUEEN REIGNS!!!!! YES YES YES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR YES!!!!!
  18. Needs more guitar, looser songs, and a bit more authenticity...but they are pretty great, especially that frontman.
