Segue Myles replied to The Cat 3's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Mariah Carey- Mariah Carey The guitar work on Someday has me really wishing she rocked out more (label always toned that down for her, she loved rock as a teen) Opeth- Blackwater Park Paradise Lost- Paradise Lost Trivium- Ascendancy -
I'm actually shocked I'm playing the new Saxon album a lot more than Priests. They are really on terrific form atm

Judas Priest- Screaming For Vengeance Judas Priest- Defenders Of The Faith Judas Priest- Painkiller Judas Priest- Firepower Judas Priest- Invincible Shield If someone told me this was the actual release order of these albums, with nothing in between, I wouldn't think twice. -
I love X&Y and Ghost Stories the most! Mylo was really cool to me. Unfortunately not enjoyed the albums since.

Last Rose Of Summer is my favourite Priest song. A huge reason I ended up taking Priest seriously, as it was nothing like what I expected from the band who turned me off due to rock radio only ever playing Breaking The Law

I love all I've heard from Stratovarius. Like Angra and Symphony X, the reason I'm not a bigger fan is because back in the day, their albums were expensive. -

Yes! The last two albums are close to perfection for me. -

I'm glad rush didn't listen to you. The Garden is regarded by far more fan's than not as a perfect closing note to their studio discography. And all the songs you mention, I love. -
I love the artform that is the album cover. There are so many albums I think fans rate higher because the album art is better than the actual music, but they are swayed to think otherwise. Maybe I'm a terrible, terrible judge, but I think Slayer are one. Their album art is phenomenal. The music? Eh

Yeaaaaaah lots of old school bands have album art I want to read the book of... This is one!

Blue Oyster Cult are on top form as well, based on their last album. -

Good! Oh, and another two come to mind: Dream Theaters last two albums are close to perfection for me. Toto's XIV is fantastic, even with ugly production. I'd also say that Falling In Between, whilst patchy, was a phenomenal change of pace for them. If the songs were not massively consistent, the energy and the ambition was still fire. Bruce Springsteens Western Stars and Letter To You are amongst his finest works. -

Talking of bands who are definitely...erm...vintage, Styx immediately come to mind. Their last two albums are, honestly, close to their best work. Judas Priest are the obvious one, but honestly I think Saxon have not stepped a foot wrong since 1995's underrated Dogs Of War. For my money, they have had a better run of great albums than Priest or Maiden, unfortunately they never quite hit the heights of those two bands best works either. Their latest album, Hell, Fire And Damnation is a wonderful record that I refuse to overlook for the mighty Priest. In fact, I'm playing both new albums endlessly. 2017's Incorruptible by Iced Earth was an absolute blast from start to finish. The two albums before it I love as well. Paradise Lost began in the late eighties. Their last album is regarded more and more by fans as perhaps their best work, top five at least, definitely. Styx- The Mission Styx- Crash Of The Crown Saxon- Thunderbolt Saxon- Carpe Diem Saxon- Hell, Fire And Damnation Paradise Lost- Obsidian -

How do we define "old"? Because there are bands from the nineties who honestly fit this standard. Twenty years ago, I saw the eighties defined as old school, so it's not a stretch to include nineties bands now. -
