  1. In my opinion Rush is better, hands down. They are better musicians and songwriters, that's for sure. Yes, the Beatles had a greater influence on rock music, but I believe that came about more because of the time they were around; with rock music in its infancy in the early 60s it was much easier to make an impact. Besides, I never liked the Beatles and I have loved Rush for years.
  2. Yes, definitely! It's pretty much one long song anyway. Thank you for mentioning this! I think it counts; plus, it's all one story.
  3. I'll give it a shot: 1) Permanent Waves 2) Clockwork Angels 3) A Farewell to Kings 4) Hemispheres 5) 2112 6) Moving Pictures 7) Signals 8) Grace Under Pressure 9) Caress of Steel 10) Fly By Night 11) Vapor Trails 12) Counterparts 13) Power Windows 14) Test for Echo 15) Snakes & Arrows 16) Rush 17) Roll the Bones 18) Presto 19) Hold Your Fire Permanent Waves was the first Rush album I heard, and I still love *every* song on there. Clockwork Angels is giving it a run for the money, although it has yet to stand the test of time. There's some wiggle room in the center of the list so those rankings may not be exact. Presto and Hold Your Fire are definitely at the bottom. They are the reason I stopped listening to the band for years, until they came back to their senses The only reason Power Windows scored so high is that I have come to love some of the songs after hearing them performed several times on the recent tour.
  4. Ooh, that's going to be a great show! Have fun :guitar:
  5. My first time seeing them was in '82 (at age 18), on the Number of the Beast tour \m/ But then I didn't see them again until last year. I'm lucky to have never heard any of the Blaze stuff, and was very happy to see that the whole band still rocks as hard as they ever did!
  6. I saw them once (or twice?) in San Francisco in the late 80s. What a fabulous live band they were. Midnight Oil is right up there in the best live bands I've seen. You know who was SO FRIGGIN' AMAZING? U2, circa 1984. One of the two best live bands I've ever seen. The rapport Bono had with the crowd was incredible. They may not be the musicians Rush are, but they certainly played with a passion.
  7. My first concert was 1979 (Cheap Trick & Blue Oyster Cult) and I've been to a few hundred since then so yeah, it's hard to choose ;) I do have to say that one of my best experiences ever, and a very good performance to boot, was one of the times I saw Rush this past tour... I was with a good friend at the Chicago show in June. We were front row center and had such a great time! Rush is the favourite band of both of us, and we were both singing, jumping around, and completely getting into the show. I find really getting into it like that makes for such a better experience than just sitting/standing and watching the band.
  8. I am so very sorry. As a middle-aged female person, I hate seeing other women fall into the stereotype of listening to/liking "soft" music. Blah. I think it's totally fine. I've gone to Rush shows by myself and have had more fun than when I go with someone who just sits/stands there without getting into it. Go, have fun, and don't care about what anyone else may or may not think.
  9. Rush, or at least Geddy, seem to get along well with Nicko from Maiden now, according to this photo: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151663076948417&set=a.323278588416.186832.229726898416&type=1 I agree with the others—that interview came at a time when the Rush guys did make some conceited comments. Think of Geddy's comment about new wave music in Beyond the Lighted Stage, where he says something about other bands who can't get past the basics.
  10. I agree about Neil—he's very much an introvert as he is so uncomfortable with the in-person interactions, but can be very open and revealing in print. He's really the only one of the three who has said more than a few words about his personal life; he just says it in his own forum, and not in interviews.
  11. I've been a fan of Iron Maiden almost as long as I've been a fan of Rush (although I am a bigger Rush fan than a Maiden fan). And, for the record, I am also an Ultravox fan, having gotten into them after reading a Signals-era interview in which Rush mentioned them as an influence. I think the quote above was spoken out of youthful naivete; a better quote comes two paragraphs before: "How can you know two million people?! We have two million fans, two million individual people with individual lives who have grown up in different places in the world in different ways."

    Rush Collection

Wikipedia has a good list of releases: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_discography, all official ones, I believe. Maybe someone can confirm if this is complete.
  13. I did a Google search looking for something Rush-related and found this. Fairly recently, too (although I've been a fan for over 30 years).
  14. Okay, thanks. I am signed up for the mailing list and I do read RIAB, but I occasionally hear about "fan club tix" and wanted to make sure I didn't miss out on anything. Now that the tour is over I'm really jonesing for more live rush!
  15. Hello, I was wondering if someone could post info on the Rush fan club, and how one joins it? I haven't been able to find anything in the archives here. Thanks.
