  1. I'd say both of those are true. James is the type of singer that shows up to a gig with his little microphone case and watches everyone else do all the work. Portnoy was (is) a workaholic. There's a big difference there. The 2004 20th anniversary of WDADU dvd is an awesome production for an inside job. I bought a couple drum videos from train of thought and 7DOIT and they were really cool for what they were. Portnoy's always been clear about what these ytsejam videos are about. Some of them are just fly on the wall recordings. To me, it's a real treat getting to see Mike recording tracks for the albums. He documented the work and shared it with the fans. I have no complaints about those videos. :codger:
  2. Look... I was sick of that stupid song by 1983. Deal with it.
  3. KJ, that's not whitney, it's Ike Turner's ex wife, Tina. And I hate that song so much I didn't list it in my five. My dad fell in love with that song and played it so much in his car's cassette player his buddy got tired of it he EJECTED IT AND THREW THE TAPE OVER THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN on a roadtrip once...
  4. Songs I've learned to hate: Love Stinks - J Geils Band I love rock and roll - Joan Jett Born in the USA - Springsteen 18 and life - Skid Row Livin after midnight - Judas Priest (so friggen sick of the drum part alone) (Honorable mention to Springsteen's born in the usa as my most hated song of the 80's and possibly of all time. No wonder the whole world hates america...)
  5. Fatoosh Juice and Ken Andy Will are a couple band names I want to use for solo projects in the future possibly. But famous bands? Herman's Hermits King Crimson I like these two band names due to the alliteration factor. ok, break is over. back to work. that's all i have for today...
  6. That's sad because she pre-recorded her performance that day. (lip synced)
  7. I was checking out this footage of 21st century schizoid band with MICHAEL GILES on drums (2002), before Ian Wallace took over (now deceased). Michael is quite a drummer! Neil mentions him as an early influence, and you can hear some of the intricacies in Neil's early progressive playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S7eqFD_7sA
  8. I don't feel my vote is valid because I just heard a glimpse of the Buggles version on here for first time, and even if I heard it a thousand more times I would be biased because the Yes version is the "Right" version from my perspective. However, I like the Buggles version. It's pretty cool. Less Staccato than Yes version. While we're on this topic, the Yes version (1980) intro section is quite similar to UK's "In the Dead of Night"(1978) intro and King Crimson's "Indiscipline" intro (1981) imho. With that said, I enjoy the heck out of that staccato stuff. And on Yes' I am the Camera I wanted to point out Steve Howe's slide guitar overlay in that section is magical and damn original to me.
  9. This has been commercially available for decades but cool footage with Billy-Boy on drums...
  10. On Lunch today I got 36th row center, in aisle, on main floor for TYA-GFTO-CTTE 04.12.13 @ The Fox from Stubhub, a secondary market ticketholder, Pair tix: $180USD. Very Happy!
  11. Here's my "dirty dozen" that came off the top of my head: Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water Ted Nugent - Stranglehold Kiss - Detroit Rock City Rush - Hemispheres (Cygnus X-1 part 2) King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part 2 Steve Miller - The Joker Led Zeppelin - Kashmere Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar ELP - Lucky Man Yes - Roundabout Jethro Tull - Aqualung Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
  12. The thing we have to keep in mind even though some bands spend an astronomical amount of money on stageshow, crew and travel expenses is that the ticket agents are making a killing and "the talent" retains 74 avg, up to 90% of gross ticket price. I think that's fair. It's no secret why bands tour relentlessly as long as people keep showing up. . And there's no such thing as "overcharging" when customers (fans) keep buying concert tickets. They're telling the artist the price is worth it. So, yeah, I agree they're not overcharging. Now I wish tix were a lot cheaper, trust me, but there's only so much I can change. :codger:
  13. I apologize for inaccurate reporting. My bad. I must have been on a secondary ticket merchant's site... The Fox Theatre show tix start at $89, which isn't bad considering it's a 5,000 seat world-class venue with no bad seats whatsoever. I'm IN!!!!
  14. I don't like how it seems Yes dropped Anderson off at the side of the road after 40+ years and never looked back when he got sick then better. However, since I don't really know why Jon 1 isn't with them any more I can't deny Squire's plan is a good one for both members and fans. Kiss plans to do that. It's like a regular company, which can be bought and sold. I can't condemn Yes for that. What I CAN and WILL condemn them for is charging too much for their upcoming concert tickets. They succeeded in gaining back the monetary losses from last tour. Bravo.
  15. I decided to go on a carribean cruise instead of Yes this year, in an effort to save money. They've sold 4,931 tickets as of this morning to the Fox Detroit show so there were 69 left. No thanks. have fun. Saw them last year for about 15 bucks, saw them with jon anderson a few times so I'm good. No senior twig n berries sightings for me...
  16. If you haven't seen the "new Jon" yet, I think you'll be pleased. Benoit David acted like Jon Anderson and that was about it. Jon Davison has a cool style that differs from the flamboyant actions of both Jon Anderson and Benoit. He's very focused yet unpretentious, and if you close your eyes you can't tell it isn't Anderson. He actually has more control of his live voice than the other Jon. No, he didn't pay his dues like Jon Anderson, but for the assignment Davison's been given you couldn't ask for much more out of him imho. Squire and Howe did the talking between songs last time, which was kinda weird, but was kinda cool...
  17. I searched and didn't find anything on this so I beg your pardon if there's already a thread. My mom took my brother and I to the Symphony to see a Queen Tribute and it was fantastic. The rock band section was tight and could do 4 part harmonies. The singer, Brody Dolyniuk, was beyond belief. I never once heard an off note and he is incredibly articulate and an outstanding stage performer. And the acoustics are about perfect at the Max Fisher which added to the experience. If you're a Queen fan of any caliber, or just a music appreciation geek this is a "must see" event... http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/59853764.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc7wSc2Sdgk
  18. I saw the ad for Fox Theatre Detroit in April and I must say... Jon Davison can really, really sing. Saw him at Pine Knob recently. WOW. I might have to go see them again...
  19. King Crimson - larks tongues in aspic Don't forget about Fripp, Bruford, Wetton, Muir & Cross...
  20. I could tell my Steve Morse meetup story from when I saw dream theater, elp & deep purple at pine knob (dte) in 1998 but I wouldn't wanna bore anyone... OK, I'll summarize in a different way: Let's just say he was really nice, and funny. He asked me if I was the IRS when i asked if he was steve morse. I couldn't tell if he was a roadie or steve. He wore a tore-up tank top just like he does on stage. That was the one time I saw deep purple live and & Steve Morse live and I'll tell you what... That band turns the crowd into a huge wavy sea of rock n roll goodness. The power of that band is beyond compare. And Steve Morse is a god performer. Just awesome. And when DP's tour bus headed out I witnessed Gillan hopping over a seat in the bus like a frog. He is either a morning person or he had something "good" for breakfast! lmao But he still had long hair, which he must have cut soon after I saw them because the '99 australia dvd shows him with short hair. I gotta admit as a huge DT fan then I came to see DT mostly but curious about elp and deep purple and left mesmerized by deep purple and steve morse. If you get a chance to see deep purple, don't blow it. Trust me... Happy Holidays. Thanks for the heads up TD!
  21. I must profess my love and respect for this amazingly incredible band, and they still have it to this day with only one original member. It doesn't matter. They are and always will be a phenomenon to me. Thanks and happy holidays TD and TRF!!
