  1. The one song that comes to mind is "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who. Doesn't get much more powerful than that...
  2. Shooting Star was a band that was underdeveloped. . Maybe not underrated, but in my opinion they could have done so much more if not screwed by their label when "Last Chance" became a radio hit. King Crimson: The huge impact this band had on bands that followed is hard to measure. They've had some success, but I believe they are highly underrated. Dixie Dregs: Unknown and under-appreciated for the most part. Their work speaks for itself. Honorable mention: "Winger"! What did they do wrong? In my estimation they weren't one of the hair-bands that made a mockery of rock music. At least they had musicianship and good songwriting. Underrated. Sorry. Someone needs to stick up for them. Beavis and Butthead cast a dark shadow on that band for no good reason...
  3. I hope Phil is OK and gets back to his job...
  4. They busted out "The Necromancer" once in Detroit, I believe it was, and it just blew me away. They have done SOME good versions of covers. I think they did good on master of puppets in Chile, not to say it was a perfect vocal performance, but it was pretty damn kewl imho...
  5. Either that one incident when he knocked over one of the cymbals and stopped the show with Billy Sheehan and some others playing to rap about how bad his drum tech was or whatever, or the time he got pissed at a fan of his for wearing a Dramatic Turn of Events shirt. He also couldn't stand his fellow bandmate's vices (as you can read from why he left Dream Theater or other blogs of his) when he clearly has many of his own which they had to deal with. His influence on the band was too strong, the band seems much more democratic without him. If he wasn't a douche, they'd have let him back in by now given how strong their history together is. Mike's personality indeed meshed better with the guys of A7X, I'd say. I didn't know he stopped a show with Sheehan. He should know not to cross that line. I need to look that up. Thanks! BTW, I talked to a top detroit guitarist who has the inside scoop on what MP was like on tour, and it's so ugly he won't even repeat it. Not even for money...
  6. That's interesting you mention that because it's fairly close to his non-drinking" years. What would you say his biggest douchery is? He's a workaholic control freak, to an extent, but actually a pretty sincere and nice guy. It's sad his "Innocence Faded".
  7. The Joe Louis Arena show was my first Rush concert. I can't think of anything in particular you wouldn't already know about it.
  8. Glad to see they're still at it. MP sure isn't doing a very good job of pretending he doesn't want back in. I mean, he's not as bad as Ace Frehley wanting to get his fat-ass on stage with Kiss again, but he sure does seem to miss being in DT. I wish he would just go on record admitting he f*cked up and went with the quick, easy money, but should have thought about the repercussions (pun intended.) Now that would be refreshing...
  9. I'd say their lack of popularity then had more to do with Kerry + Robbie leaving than anything else. I heard Morse was awesome when he was with Kansas. Just sayin...
  10. But they now have mainstream acceptance. Is that good? They deserve it and I'm happy it happened in their lifetime to bask in the sun for a minute or two...
  11. I've been listening to The Police "A doo doo doo, a da da da" in my head lately. Heard it on the radio the other day and it stuck with me. I don't remember liking it before but the lyrics mean more to me than in the 80's when they used to play it constantly on radio I guess...
  12. This is living testament that in today's corporate world you stomp out your obstacles and hire dudes for $100k/yr as your shareholders are grinning ear to ear. It's an ugly biz...
  13. Many guitarists I worked with early on didn't seem to appreciate Alex, but it shows their musical immaturity imho, Not that they don't have the right to their opinion but c'mon man...
  14. I saw them in 87 at Pine Knob. I had instant respect from that night on. Their dynamics and intensity woke up a sense in me I didn't know I had. Love this band.
  15. These Women often are of the highest caliber. Thanks for posting this thread. :codger:
  16. I really like this video what a great production! I really like the new album more, like sfom, as time "grows" on...
  17. The track name is Along for the Ride. I didn´t know it was a reference to KC until very recently! Jordan used the same keyboard sound on Beneath the Surface from A Dramatic Turn of Events, and I´ve been referring to this sound as the "peruvian street band flute" sound. One thing some people have flagged is that the solo starts slightly delayed on Along for the Ride. It doesn´t bother me, but it´s quite noticeable. the King Crimson reference I'm referring to is between the rhythm section in the guitar n the keyboards but let me check to see if it might be the same thing you're talking about. I'll listen to aftr now. So are we talking about the same thing or not??!?! Now that you explained it further, I don´t think so... I listened to that one and saw is as subtlely similar but not so much as the ine on illumination theory.
  18. 12 minutes 30 seconds into illumination theory there's a riff like on larks tongues part 2. In addition they borrowed some Kerry Livgren Magnum Opus as performed by kansas on enigma machine. There's no way J.P. can deny some strong Kansas influences on this new one imho. Twas done in good taste and developed on, so I respect their tributes to these great bands wholeheartedly!

  20. Did anyone notice the King Crimson throwback from Larks Tongues pt 2? I don't know the new song titles well enough yet to say which track it son but I was curious if anybody noticed it? I apologize if this was brought up before...
