  1. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Oct 16 2012, 04:33 PM) Why wouldn't Floor become a permanent member? She seems to be able to handle Tarja's and Annette's vocals well, the fans' reactions have been mostly positive, and the band seems like they're happy with her. The only thing I could think of is her wanting to be with her band full time but I can't imagine why she wouldn't want to be a full time member. Plus she could always have side projects. Am I missing something because I've seen people elsewhere say they don't think she'll join the band? actually I believe that "After Forever" (Floors first band) is no longer together... so one would think that it would be much easier for her to join Nightwish full time
  2. I had no idea that Anette and NW had parted ways. I would love it if Floor joined. I wasn't a huge After Forever fan, but I did like her voice.
  3. Faith No More- Listen to their first three full albums (not counting "We Care A Lot" their first actual album that was independently done) and you hear a look into the future of hard rock/heavy metal (at least it was "the future" in the late 80s.) It was stripped down and deeper sounding (heavier bass and drums.) Introduce Yourself- the first major debut set the stage for what would be the next two albums. You could see some of the "different" ideas they would come up with while still staying "safe" within their own sound. The Real Thing- the "commercial" album that made the rest of america take notice of them and the introduction of Mike Patton as their vocalist. On this album you hear "Woodpeckers From Mars," an OUTSTANDING instrumental song done without Patton's vocals. Angel Dust- VERY different from the previous album, but a great album (dare I say one of the best albums to come out of the 90s in my opinion.) The only problem was that even with this being a great album... it's also the reason for their major downfall (IMO.) After AD, they came out with "King for a Day...." which sounds very "phoned" in and nothing special. It lost a lot of the "heavy" feel to it and with the departure of Jim Martin (lead guitarist for the previous 3 albums) Patton really took control over it all, which is like letting a lunatic drive the bus. There is still a few good songs on the album... but not enough good songs to warrant purchasing the whole album. Then came "Album of the Year," or the "hail marry pass" for FnM to try to regain what they had with AD... but too little too late. The parade had already left them behind... and they will be one of the bands people forget even when talking about great 90s bands. Had Martin and Patton been able to work together, keep that solid sound while still being "different" and heavy... I think they would've easily been regarded as a top band out of the 90s and a top "metal" band.
  4. allow me to sum up this video... "Hi, we are pop critics. Just like pop music, we are shallow but try to act like we are really deep. We will praise bands that pop-culture praises... but never before they become acceptable. We have no ideas of our own, but change words around to make it sound like ideas of our own. Anything that makes us think too hard, isn't good. Anything that isn't basic, isn't good. How shallow, pop driven and mindless are we? We would put N.W.A. in before Public Enemy. We didn't like the Sex Pistols till after Sid joined and they became a 'punk trend' type of band."
  5. I would love it if Rush, Deep Purple and Public Enemy make it in (and yes I can actually support PE going in.) Here is what I am visioning... Iron Maiden does "Smoke on the Water" Deep Purple speech Anthrax plays "Bring the Noise" Public Enemy does their speech Foo Fighters "Spirit of Radio" Rush speech Then the grand finale... all of the bands mentioned above does a giant medley that goes in this order; "Hush" into "Highway Star" into "She Watched Channel Zero" into "Fight the Power"... fade to black... "Tom Sawyer" into "Limelight" into the first two parts of "2112" (overture and temples.. ) into "Working Man" into the grand finale of "2112" with Chuck D (of PE) doing the "attention" ending.. except with a twist; "attention all members of the Rock and roll hall of fame... attention all members of the rock and roll hall of fame... attention all members of the rock and roll hall of fame... we have assumed control... we have assumed control... we have assumed control." ok I need to change my pants now

  8. QUOTE (The Owl @ Sep 16 2012, 10:33 PM) QUOTE (Zamboni14 @ Sep 16 2012, 07:41 PM) QUOTE (The Owl @ Sep 16 2012, 04:58 PM) QUOTE (Zamboni14 @ Sep 16 2012, 12:37 AM) One thing that really annoyed me last season was how it was really "Amy Pond... and her sidekicks" I think Matt could do sooooooo much better, if they didn't center almost every episode around Amy. And I think Amy could be a lot better if the show wasn't so focused on her. well.....at least Amy is a much better character to do that with...as opposed when they tried to do it with Rose..... but at least with Rose, feelings for the Doctor wasn't the main story (which is mostly what sub-plot was about).. with Amy it's about the crack in her wall, where are her parents, does she still love Rory, is she going to become a weeping angel, what is her connection to River, how did she get into the Pandorica, where did she vanish off to, why is her and Rory seperated, etc. All they really need to do is a little tweaking and not make it always about HER and be more about the Doctor... and things will be much better (this last episode did a MUCH better job of featuring the Doctor rather than Amy.) Don't get me wrong, I don't like a completely helpless assistant that's always crying for help either... but the Doctor is the "Alpha" here.. not her. I did like last nights episode in that they are making the Doctor have more of a "mean" streak (which would only come out from time to time with the previous two Doctors... but you knew it was always there.) I don't disagree too much... Moffatt's run with the show has been unusually focused on the companion more so than with any previous companion... but I think Amy and Rory are good companions to do that with.... yes I'd like a bit more attention focused on the Doctor's story (it is his show after all), but it's not that much of a bother as Amy and Rory are very well written, if a bit receiving a bit too much focus. But how can you not say that Rose had the same treatment if not more focus that was drawn away from the Doctor than that of Amy and Rory... for some reason Russel T Davies had a huge hard-on for Rose and it got very irritating after a while.... don't get me wrong I don't hate Rose... and I know alot of people that do... but I also however do not see Rose as the "bar, by wich all other companions shall be judged" either, as it seems to be the opinion of alot of revived Doctor Who fans...(and Russel T Davies) ... Rose was alright in the first season.... I actually really enjoyed Rose in the first season.... because she fit that perfect niche that a companion should fill... as a surrogate for the audience into the Whoniverse... that first season was about the fallout the Doctor was experiencing after the time war, and his learning to move pass it...and there was never a point where the production staff and writers were forcing the companion (I.E Rose) into the forefront to overshadow the Doctor's story arc in that season... But starting the second season that changed... luckily we had David Tennant's wonderful Doctor to hold the show up because it was here that Rose really starts to irritate me (no Offense to Billy Piper...she did not write the scripts)....that whole second season and forward it is really hard to tolerate her at times, and they gave her too much focus within the story... the same issue you're having with Amy Pond...and her character was pushed to some annoying extremes... she was just awful to her boyfriend and mother, was bitchy and insulting to Sarah Jane in the School reunion episode, and got too jealous and protective when anyone got too near to the Doctor... the whole romance thing was carried too far..... Amy might be receiving the alot of the same foreground but Amy has far less of the annoying ticks that Rose had... Rose was decent, and despite all Ive pointed out, I don't hate that character...I love most of the Russel T Davies WHO... even the season with Martha Jones... who makes Rose look like a saint... One thing that might be an issue with Amy and Rory is this though.... Amy and Rory do not have a set of supporting characters based on Earth, that by extension help define the companions... Rose and.... ughh Martha, both had families that were on Earth... people, that despite traveling with the Doctor, gave the companion something to care about back home, and make the companion more 3 dimensional... I loved Mickey and Jackie....and later on Pete... in alot of cases more so than Rose... and Martha Jone's family was her only saving grace... and don't get me started on Donna's family, Donna is still my favorite companion of the revived series, but I absolutely LOVED Wilfed Mott...favorite character in all of the Revival (aside from the doctors).... But Amy and Rory do not have that "on earth" connection, no supporting cast on earth that they care about....hell... Rory's father was only introduced 1 episode ago... 3 episodes before they leave.... my 1 complaint about Amy and Rory as companions.... I don't mind alot of the focus on Amy's story even if it does somewhat diminish that of the Doctor.... I think if you're gonna do that, at least make sure it's a well written character... and Amy (and Rory) are just that... once again as opposed when they did the same thing before to a less well written character. ok, I see where you are coming from now. And I can easily see how you like Amy over Rose based on that. No, I don't blame "Amy" for the writing of Moffatt... and I think that if you pared Amy and Rory with Tennent (with RTD doing the writing) you would have possibly the best mixture between the two. Based on all that, I should really clarify that my issue is more with the writing then Amy herself (and possibly with Matt not having the same "controlling" look the two previous Doctors had.)
  9. sooooooo glad I joined this forum... simply for this news. Yeah I'm behind in my music news
  10. QUOTE (TheAccountant @ Sep 8 2012, 11:13 PM) This all changed on an August night in 2002 when I saw Rush at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on the VT tour. I had seen Rush on the Presto and Counterparts tours but this show - wow. Best show I have ever seen. By any group. Rush vaulted past the others and has never really looked back. It's funny how many people put VT near the bottom of their lists of "favorite" Rush albums... yet was (IMO) the first album that opened the gateway into the documentaries, newer fans, being noticed even more by the masses, etc. BTW- enjoyed reading your whole story (which kind of helped me type mine out.)
  11. started out being a Billy Joel fan in the early 80s (Glass Houses was my first cassette I ever owned.) With my 2nd being Phil Collins/Genesis (I only knew of "Invisible Touch".. didn't have a clue about their history.) Late 80s things started to change as I became more angry and jaded... aka I was becoming a teenager. So I went into a rapid change from the summer before my 8th grade year to the summer of freshman year of HS... I basically ran the gambit of 80s "hair" bands in rapid speed... till I came across "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, and that started me down the path of "metal" So for the most part, Metallica then was my favorite band (and because I was in a totally different school district/system... nobody knew of my "innocent" or "happy" bands that I used to like.) Faith No More was the closest band to take the "top spot" from Metallica... but after Angel Dust (still one of my favorite albums) they faded from me. And by then I was starting to return from "the dark side" and wanted more than just "angry and loud" music.. I wanted some substance. Suddenly I started hitting classic rock and 70s hard rock more.. and that's when I started to really get into Rush (see my first posting for more detail into this.) And as time went on, my love of Rush music just got bigger and bigger over time. Actually in the grand scheme of things, Rush being my favorite band is still somewhat new since "Vapor Trails" was the album where I can say they became my favorite band. 2nd Favorite is now Foo Fighters (even though I HATED Nirvana... you figure that one out, I sure can't.) 3rd Favorite is... always changing between Metallica, Megadeth, Faith No More, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, Anthrax, etc.

  13. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Sep 16 2012, 03:16 AM) QUOTE (Zamboni14 @ Sep 15 2012, 10:30 PM) Anchorman... all I kept hearing about was how funny it is. Sorry, I found watching paint dry 100 times more funny The first time I saw it in theaters I didn't like it very much. Later on I saw it on cable and thought it was pretty funny, but I haven't been inspired to see it in years. It's better than I initially thought, but there are a lot of comedies so much better. The one I thought was hugely overrated (not like it was thought of that highly by people in general) was Dodgeball. Now THAT was a real suckfest. I never actually watched Dodgeball... only parts. I know I wouldn't like that movie either, because even in small parts I wasn't interested.
