  1. Massive! Wow Either she's in a blond wig or we have a 'new girl'...
  2. I really didn't care much for the 80's stuff after Grace Under Pressure, but yes after the live renditions I've gone back & now I like them. The sonics are pretty dated but I really appreciate the songwriting, there are some great tunes. It's cool to hear those songs with how Rush sounds NOW.
  3. QUOTE (Pericles @ Oct 18 2012, 12:18 AM) Just wondering if anyone has a really good picture of the complete woman cellist? Her & Alex apparently enjoy jammin out together http://www.rushshowphotos.com/Rush2012/Tor...8TkFp&lb=1&s=X3

  5. QUOTE (Sticklight @ Oct 7 2012, 11:58 AM) QUOTE (Don'tMeetInBars @ Oct 7 2012, 08:16 AM) I love Clockwork Angels. 1st Rush album I've listened to repeatedly, almost daily since back in the glory days. Just an outstanding record. I can't get enough of those big bass pedal moments! When the Anarchist riff comes on, the sub-sonics just vibrate the crap out my car! Awesome! Most of the bass you FEEL on the album is actually Geddy's bass. His Fender has a huge bottom end which provides that heavy bass sound you hear on The Anarchist's riff and at the beginning of Clockwork Angels, when the guitar kicks in (Also, in the beginning of the first verse). On top of that bass sound it you can hear Geddy's crunchy treble sound which comes with a strong bass vibe. That bass vibe belongs to the bass guitar. However, there are definitely other places where Geddy uses the bass pedals to provide some bottom end. Check out the riff (approx 0:57), the bass is moving (with the guitar part) and the bass pedals are taking the whole notes underneath. Yes Ged's bass is beefy, it's great. I was referring to the actual bass pedal sounds, which are different. Usually long sustaining notes, and working with the bass instead of replacing it. Kudos to the mix engineer for keeping it distinct.

  7. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Oct 5 2012, 10:23 PM) Personally, I don't need to hear Tom Sawyer, Freewill, Working Man, YYZ, and Limelight anymore. As much as they don't want to become a nostalgia band, I don't want them to do it, either. Far, far better for them to pull stuff out of the Vault and keep their Shows changing than to see them churn out the same-old, same-old.....and end up disbanding from the boredom. Agree 100%.
  8. Whatever Rush is into playing is fine by me!
  9. We're talking about Meet & Greet! What are we talking about here? We're talking about Meet & Greet!
  10. Just throwing this out there...could Alex be triggering with his vocal mic?
  11. This guy has some excellent footage from Columbus: http://www.youtube.com/user/RTMorasonMD2
  12. QUOTE (Don Quixote @ Sep 23 2012, 09:45 AM) I've read on more than one occasion that Alex's guitars are all standard tuning with one or two exceptions for Drop D. The changes in his sound are with effects and pickup configurations. Yes but check out the two new songs the OP referenced, the major chords are played with the one finger bar shape. It's an interesting sound, the tuning is very common for slide.
  13. QUOTE (MarKo @ Sep 22 2012, 07:00 AM) During Carnies and Headlong Flight it looks like he's using a guitar tuned to an E chord, which if that is the way they're recorded explains why those songs have a slightly "different" feel... Wow good eye/ear, I checked it out you're totally right! It's interesting how they're triggering whole phrases, not just individual notes from the bass pedals. They can hit it once, it plays, then they're on about their business rather than being tied to the pedalboards. Looking at the sidestage YouTubes it's still amazing to me how they make the pedal 'dance' look so effortless!
  14. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Sep 19 2012, 03:35 PM) QUOTE (Don'tMeetInBars @ Sep 19 2012, 06:03 AM) QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Sep 18 2012, 10:44 PM) All the songs from the 80s have been heavier sounding since the Vapor Trails tour because Alex realized that Gibson and Fender guitars beat the living shit out of those plastic toys he was playing previously. Probably more Gibson than Fender here, but sure it's a different vibe than PRS. Alex is also using heavier amp sounds to go along with this. It all adds up to a big big sound. no, no, no. his amps now are more sophisticated sounding, but not heavier. when he used marshall amps on T4E- there was a thicker amp sound. Yes yes yes. Gibson plus heavier amp sounds is a big combination. Alex was using alot more gain in the 90's (ie heavier), but it still had that midrangey PRS sound. Now it's just bigger overall. More lows to the point folks are saying he's drop tuned. Plus a Marshall 30th and a Marshall Jubilee clone are two very different things.

  16. Yeah other classic rock shows are far worse, everybody starts tossing down those blue drinks with the sippy straws and woo hoo bye bye brain cells! Fights break out, it's soon a party of numbskulls. I actually like going to see newer bands, folks are far more into the music it seems.
  17. QUOTE (LocalsBandGuy @ Sep 13 2012, 04:38 PM) Can we have a Price Is Right Wheel Now THAT is an idea! I like it.
  18. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Sep 11 2012, 04:25 PM) Damn! 7 Cities live KICKS A**!! No doubt!! What was up with the 2nd guitar there on the stand? Alex just strums it open for a sec and goes back to what he's doing...hmm.
  19. QUOTE (Alchemical @ Sep 11 2012, 05:52 PM) Mistakes happen. Even big ones. Yeah sure, but noone ever mentions how quick he recovered from it, and found his way back! In 7/8 no less.
  20. QUOTE (Big Fan 2112 @ Sep 12 2012, 03:30 PM) I personally get bored with all the hits. I really look forward to the new stuff from whatever band Im seeing. http://www.regionrockmemories.com/HCC_Rush_78131_.html Nice post! See this is what I'm talking about, celebrate the old days with some great pictures, but embrace the NEW! When the classic tours happened it was all about what the band is doing NOW. But I guess some folks still try to relive their youth at concerts...?
  21. I have so much respect for this band NOT turning into a Greatest Hits nostalgia act.
  22. I think RUSH has earned the right to play whatever they want at this point. I'd much rather have them excited and happy rediscovering the 80's tunes and the new album than going through the motions on the old old stuff. (& I'm a huge fan of 70's Rush) If you try to please everybody you become Journey.
