  1. Beloved folk icon Richie Havens died this morning in his home from a sudden heart attack. He was 72. Havens first became part of musical history during his impromptu opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Best known for his distinctive intense, rhythmic guitar style and soulful covers of pop and folk songs, Havens toured and recorded music for over 40 years before retiring from the road 3 years ago. Beyond his music, those who have met Havens will remember his gentle and compassionate nature, his light humor and his powerful presence. While his family greatly appreciates that Richie’s many fans are also mourning this loss, they do ask for privacy during this difficult time. A public memorial will be planned for a later date http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA51wyl-9IE
  2. The first song that comes to mind for me is The Necromancer I. Into Darkness As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky, the three travelers, men of Willow Dale, emerge from the forest shadow. Fording the River Dawn, they turn south, journeying into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer. Even now the intensity of his dread power can be felt, weakening the body and saddening the heart. Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres, stripped of will and soul. Only their thirst for freedom gives them hunger for vengeance... Silence shrouds the forest as the birds announce the dawn. Three trav'llers ford the river and southward journey on. The road is lined with peril, and the air is charged with fear. The shadow of his nearness weighs like iron tears. II. Under the Shadow Shreds of black cloud loom in overcast skies; the Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes. He views all his lands and is already aware Of the three helpless invaders trapped in his lair... Broading in the tower, watching o'er his land, holding ev'ry creature, helplessly they stand. Gaze into his prisms, knowing they are near. Lead them to the dungeons. Spectres numb with fear, they bow defeated.
  3. Was it really necessary to make a new thread just to quote "The 40 Year Old Virgin"?
  4. I hear that the album might be more blues based than metal, can anybody confirm this? Also I would prefer a more or less return to form with blues based metal, than another generic, dime a dozen metal album...
  5. It can't "grow on me" because I loved the album from the first time I listened to it...
  6. They're still better than System of a Down!
  7. The Beatles are definitely the most overrated band of all time, people ramble on about their influence on modern pop music, one person even went so far as to state that: "anything ever done in music was done by the Beatles first, even if the band came before them" which to me really displays the depths to how far the Beatles are worshiped. Sure they experimented, and had an influence on a great many bands, but definitely not all, or even most bands, The Rolling Stones were formed on the principle of being everything the Beatles weren't (the anti-Beatles if you will), and Jimmy Page owned a sitar before George Harrison ever did. What really upsets me was when the Beatles discography was released on iTunes a few years back, which introduced a whole new generation to the overrated pop that the Beatles are. Suddenly it was cool and "indie" to listen to the Beatles, and it wasn't the good psychedelic, experimental Beatles, it was the pop drivel from Beatlemania. People often accuse me of being a pretentious hipster, and state that I hate anything mainstream, and since The Beatles are the most mainstream band of all time, that's why I dislike them. I never like or dislike any music based on it's popularity, it is a fact that most (or even all) mainstream music of today is complete and utter shit, but I don't dislike it based on the fact that it's popular, my favorite album of all time is probably Dark Side of the Moon, which puts down any claims as such. I dislike the Beatles because they aren't musically talented, and their influence is blown way out of proportion. Ringo sat is constantly put on "Best Drummers of all Time" lists, even though he should be considered one of the worsts to ever pick up the instrument. Paul McCartney is one of the worst songwriters of all time, just look at his solo material, which leaves George and John, which are the only members I consider to be decent. Time to deal with the backfire...
  8. Witch Hunt for me, I quote that song all the time...
