  1. QUOTE (FountainOfSyrinx @ Sep 6 2012, 07:35 PM) I'm only 17, and my mom passed away almost two months ago from complications to her liver. She never liked Rush really, because she always thought they were too hardcore. She thought Closer to the Heart was good, until it sounded "like Rush", which always cracked me and my Dad up.. Rush came out with Garden, she passed away about a month later, and it just hit me how much the song really means to me. It really clicks, because if she was here to hear it, she would love it, and she was the definition of loved and respected, which makes me feel like Neil is talking directly to me about my mom. It's her kind of music. The song itself is kind of about death, and the song itself is very beautiful. This never hit me until now, just how much it reminds me of her, and I think about of her every time I hear it. Alex's solo makes me almost cry (i'm a "no-emotion" teenager, ya know), because it's so full of emotion. This song might be my favorite Rush song, ever. We will play it at her wake. I had to get it off my chest, to people who'd understand. I'm sorry to hear about your Mama. You are picking a very beautiful song in memory of her. Even if she doesn't like Rush, she will like this song, I played it for my mom and it was the only song she was into from CA. Well OK, that's a start right? In my opinion it is a beautiful song to play to remind us of all of the stages of life. My fiance and I will be using it in our wedding. Good choice, young one.
  2. QUOTE (Mika @ Aug 26 2012, 01:22 AM) For those of us that have come into existence during Rush's career (now, that ought to make 'em feel old!): select the album that best corresponds with your birth year! Then, to take it one step further, leave a comment picking your favourite song from that album; that song is your 'birthday song'! *ahem* I'll begin. I came wailing into the world in 1982, so my album is Signals. My favourite song from that album... let's see... I think I'll go with 'Digital Man'. Thus, that's my birthday song! note: yes, the poll choices end with Vapor Trails - I just don't see anyone under the age of 10 hanging out here.... But please do correct me if I'm wrong! Signals is also from my birth year. I will go with "Losing It" as my birthday song.
  3. QUOTE (Jag2112 @ Sep 8 2012, 03:39 PM) What a night last night. In between streaming the set list live, I was able to snap off a few (hundred) pictures from the show. You can see them at the link below. Clockwork Angels Tour Pictures - Manchester NH Warning: There are 403 pictures to sift through Enjoy- I know we just met but let me just say that I love you for posting this.
  4. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Sep 8 2012, 03:37 PM) I always thought people who can stick fingers in mouths and whistle were very talented. Is there a name for that kind of talent besides whistler? Yeah, a dumbass that drowns out Geddy. This better not happen to me.
  5. QUOTE (ClassicB @ Sep 8 2012, 03:04 PM) QUOTE (Terrapin @ Sep 8 2012, 04:59 PM) Yes, and I find it quite disturbing.... Alex does the same thing with his guitar parts. I'm really beginning to wonder just how much of this show is "Live" and how much is playback. Funny how the band seem to think the audience actually believes that Alex is singing backing vocals... Geddy is really bad now with the keyboard samples. It's like he hit's a button on the keyboard or foot pedals and then it's all these prerecorded key samples which back in the day he would be playing note for note. Example was The Anarchist when you get those deep Taurus bass notes, when that part comes up, he taps the foot pedal once and autopilot kicks in and the notes are there but Geddy is walking around the stage. I hate it when musicians mellow with age! Let's see how well we fare at 60, heh.

Hehe oh no don't tell me this. My fiance and I had this argument over if Alex was actually singing or not. Looks like he might be right.... this once.
  7. QUOTE (tangy @ Sep 8 2012, 06:58 AM) QUOTE (sitboaf @ Sep 7 2012, 11:31 PM) The only other thing I can personally to compare it to is the show on September 14, 2010 in Boston. I would estimate that crowd at 10 to 15% women. The Manchester show had probably double that, maybe 25-30% women. It's an understatement to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. I know the band received recent attention from the movie and new album, which generated a new crop of fans, but wow. Thoughts? apparently they heard good things about the sausage maker from last tour...... The guy who makes the sausage is pretty damn tasty if I must say. I will be attending my first Rush show this year (one of two), not out of obligation but out of sheer desire to see as many shows as I can!
  8. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Sep 8 2012, 05:00 AM) The setlist was a dream come true. Crowd was terrible though. What was wrong with the crowd?
  9. QUOTE (default236 @ Sep 7 2012, 04:30 PM) QUOTE (Kid_Gloves @ Sep 7 2012, 06:28 PM) I'm jizzing right now Tis many of us are. Braingasm for sure.
  10. Ahhhhh I am so excited!!! Subdivisions was my first ever Rush memory! This is going to be so amazing. I am going to cry, or faint, or both. And I need to change my panties. This is EPIC! Also, it looks like Geddy has a giant brain in a jar on his side, how flipping great is that?

  13. QUOTE (dtpoet @ Sep 6 2012, 01:56 PM) I can see Nobody's Hero for Andrew. For years (or tours), it seems there has been a balance between what they "have" to play and what they "want" to play. This could certainly be a sign that the scales are tipping towards "want". Also, the reality is that the guys are getting older. People tend to mellow as they get older. view life through different lenses then they did 10, 20 years before. SO while at first it surprised me to hear a song like Second Nature being thrown around, with a little thinking, it kind of makes sense. THerefore, it doesn't surprise me to hear that more "mellow" songs would be included in the setlist. Swapping out? Of course. It keeps the grind fresh and challenging. It's what they want to do as opposed to what they should do. Remember, this isn't about you, me, or the person in the seats. We are just along for the ride. This has always been the unwritten contract. If you don't like it, you can go listen to other bands or go to other shows. We the fan accept that they are going to do what they want to do and we have the choice to accept it or move on and they are perfectly fine with that. They don't try to hold on to us with fancy gimmicks or witty advertising. We are free to leave at any time.... Well now that you put it that way I feel like a d-bag for calling it my "pee break" song. That is actually a good choice if it is in the memory of their friend, that DOES make a lot of sense. I really shouldn't complain though, there aren't any Rush songs that I don't like, only favorites and lesser favorites. Heh.
  14. Nobody's Hero. Meh. I guess I know when my pee break will be.
  15. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Sep 3 2012, 11:44 AM) QUOTE (Thunder Bay Rush @ Sep 3 2012, 11:15 AM) Girl, you EFFING ROCK! I'm jealous that got to meet them at age 24 and I'm 50 and still waiting... damn! "Lady Luck is golden, she favors the bold- that's cool" Honestly, I'm very fortunate to have met the guys when I was 22 and 23, respectively. They're very sweet. Also, it's all about who ya know. Just sayin' Who do we need to know? I'd like to become friends with them right now! Hehe.

What if they garlic and rotten eggs? The Result? A definite ass kicking out of bed ...C'mon Ducky, don't you know that everyone must be well brushed and flossed first?? I'd let Geddy get away with it. Yeah...Geddy could get away with it. Even Geddy with a nasty case of gas in an airtight room would not detour me. Detour or deter? I guess it depends on what route she would take to get there? What shape would a Geddy detour take? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8041/7945056546_b6ec94b3af_z.jpg I wouldn't take any detours with that man but make sure all roads were well traveled and explored.
  17. Nooooooooooooooooooooo. I just fell in love with Rush. I can't imagine only seeing two shows and that being the end. My world will seriously fall apart, haha. But yeah, I'm pushing 30 and can't imagine doing what they do. At least they've taken much better care of themselves than a lot of other rockers. I hope this isn't the end.
  18. QUOTE (Karena @ Sep 5 2012, 09:29 AM)QUOTE (USB Connector @ Sep 5 2012, 08:07 AM) I wouldn't. The idea of going all around the entire arena and finding the dude with the tickets to switch during a 10 minute intermission is ridiculous. It's something fans could maybe plan ahead of time, at least to the possibility. Some people don't even know where their seats are located yet and they may really prefer one side but miss out on it. I don't need to be staring up Geddy's exquisite nose all night, and I'd love to watch Alex play up close too. I could stare at Geddy's exquisite nose for the rest of my life so... Hopefully I'll be on his side for at least one of my two shows. I'd be more than happy to switch with a Lerxst fan on Geddy's side.
  19. I've been totally digging the way he sounds on "The Wreckers" and "The Garden" just in general. Especially on "The Wreckers" when he sings the line "a ghostly light..." Yum.
  20. This is hilarious because when my fiance and I are watching "Live in Cleveland" and the camera zooms in on Geddy playing, my fiance turns to me and says "Don't be staring at his crotch!!!" *sigh* "
