  1. Didn't they post the entire time machine tour setlist on rush.com before the start of the tour?
  2. I was lucky enough to be given one of those Musicom 2112 lithographs (the hand signed and professionally matted/framed version) by my brother after he bought for a whopping $40 from some kid who was trying to sell it to the music store where he worked. ("My boss never buys stuff like this, but I'll give ya $40 for it." "OK!") It's the only thing I have signed by the whole band.
  3. They still do some non-personalized signing here and there, although I couldn't say when it comes to sending memorabilia to venues for them. Just recently--there were some band-signed promo copies of the CA album that went out, Geddy signed a whole lot of DVDs of BTLS that were sold by Musician's Friend and other Music dealers for only $30, the limited editions of Neil's books, some signed F&A calendars and coffee mugs. Plus there's the occasional charity auction item/s. In any case, it's a shame that so many scalpers are out there trying to flip things on ebay or sell flat out forgeries. I'm sure it leaves a sour taste in their mouths, as does the occasional insider who sells meet and greets for over $2K a pop on the ticket seller sites.
  4. Which date are you attending? I haven't gotten any notification yet--not even for the KISS show I'm going to in 3 weeks.
  5. Perhaps I was fortunate, but I think it was just a matter of being at the ready 5 minutes before the books went live, and refreshing the page every few seconds until they popped up on the site (a couple of minutes early by my clock). I'm definitely happy though, and only slightly poorer compared to what I'd have to pay on ebay--the silver ed. is going for the original price of the gold now, which is about what I had to shell out for a limited ed. of Far And Away. I was determined not to miss out on the original offer this time, and lucky for me, I saw the facebook post on my news feed. I think I did get an email sometime before that Friday also, but with much less time in advance. I've become more and more into autographed memorabilia lately--not just Rush--and have gotten a fair number of autographs in person (Pantera, KISS, Soundgarden, Kyuss). Sometimes I kick myself for not asking some of the other bands/stars I've met, but I'm really glad I got Dimebag's autograph while Pantera was still together, and I'll cherish that one. My brother was lucky enough to get one of the 2112 hand-signed lithographs for only $40 (?!?!?!?) which he gave to me as a gift--that's another one I will hopefully never have to part with. PS--just found out that my CA books should be in my hands on 9/5/12.
  6. QUOTE (ReGorLaTroy @ Aug 31 2012, 09:13 AM) QUOTE (HalfwayToGone @ Aug 30 2012, 08:19 PM) I haven't gotten anything yet, email or otherwise. I chose standard shipping, so there may not be any sort of tracking number. Just have to sweat it out. I don't really get too worked up over which number I'm getting. I'll be happy when they show up. I did see an actual image of the slipcover on ebay--someone's already selling one that they received in the mail. Looks sharp. You said, "I'll be happy when they show up." You wouldn't happen to have an extra copy for a Rush fan in need, would you? Can't wait to read this one. I bought one each of the silver and gold editions. So I basically get two of the signed books and one comes with the framed piece of the same number. I really doubt that either book will leave my hands unless as a gift to a dear friend of mine who's been a Rush fan far longer than I have, and I seriously doubt you'll see either of my copies on ebay unless some financial catastrophe happens or I drop dead, and it goes to an estate auction or something. PS--I got my tracking number email today. Apparently "regular mail" means UPS. Whatever...I'm gettin' my signed books soon!!

  8. Hey, anyone else excited that these are due to ship tomorrow??? I know there are copies floating around already (including those signed by Kevin Anderson from the premiere in Toronto), but I haven't bothered looking in any of the bookstores around here (NJ) yet to see if the plain ol' hardcover is on the shelf yet. Having sprung for one of each special edition, I can't say I'm not tempted to put my silver ed. on ebay just to recoup the cost of the gold ed. But I probably won't. I'm a fan, not a speculator or scalper.
  9. 2010? Thanks for the clarification. I had no idea--just saw the tweet and assumed it was a new shot. Also, noticed no Andrew McNaughton credit, so I figured it wasn't old.
  10. big oops from me...sorry for the confusion. see the spoiler thread for the photo.
  11. EDIT: spoiler alert--so, don't scroll down unless you don't care--original photo post moved to new thread. P.S. decided this belonged in a spoiler thread...sorry for the hasty post.
  12. Looks like I went with the popular choice (Red) but it's a toss-up between that, Lark's Tongues and discipline. The first album lags only slightly behind those three for me.
  13. QUOTE (Chicken hawk @ Aug 25 2012, 10:38 AM) Im Jealous !!! How did you get it? Didn't Kevin Anderson just do a signing/premiere in Toronto yesterday? I'm too far from Canada to have gone up for that, so I had to spring for the limited editions. I guess they'll be shipping next Friday.
  14. Perhaps. I think the way things are now, you're right. With a long line of people coming thru and taking photos, it becomes tedious and not fun. It was probably easier in a party atmosphere w/food and alcohol flowing, etc.
  15. QUOTE (shail @ Aug 20 2012, 04:31 PM) nothing new here. he improved the solo last tour also. he might get rid of the big band crap this time around. it's going to be more of the same every single night. he doesn't have much vocabulary at all. he will play the same drum ostinato in three. boom chick chick boom chick chick. same tambourine trigger. the drum solo is the perfect time to get a beer and take a pee. Maybe if you hate drums in general. Otherwise I disagree with most of what you posted, aside from the assumption that the waltz will be there--I'm sure it will be, because any drummer will tell you--playing 3/4 with your feet, and then wandering all over different time signatures with your hands at the same time is something very few drummers learn outside of hardcore jazz drummers. Why would any drummer not want to showcase the pinnacle of their achievements on the drums?
  16. One last thing I'll add: It's much easier to present yourself in a written format where you have as much or as little time as you wish to think about what you want to present to people and how you want to do it, and to edit and re-word and re-write, and throw it out and start over, etc. Dealing with people face to face and ad lib is possibly riskier, and more spontaneous, with more potential for the unexpected to come out, whether it be a personal connection or a moment of rudeness or whatever.
  17. I'm not arguing that Neil puts himself out there through his writing--he certainly does that. My point is that Geddy and Alex are not shy about rubbing elbows with people, and shooting the breeze a bit when the opportunity is there, or putting their personal lives out there either. In the documentary all three of them are equally exposed regarding their upbringings and relationships with each other, and equally guarded about flinging their spouses and children out there. You hear a little of the wives and kids, and they are not identified at any point on camera. The major difference is that Neil is just more shy and introverted in face to face encounters, and tends to avoid them whenever possible.
  18. I've played all of 'em. You've heard recordings--all done by different producers with completely different approaches to the drum sound. It's that simple. You can refuse to believe that if you want, but I know from 30+ years of first hand experience with all of these drum makers' products how they stack up head to head. PS--in addition to my DW kit, I have not one but two Ludwig kits, so it's nothing against them.
  19. HYF, hands down for me. absolutely bland aside from the bright red color of it.
  20. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Aug 14 2012, 09:32 PM) QUOTE (HalfwayToGone @ Aug 14 2012, 08:19 PM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Aug 14 2012, 01:35 PM) No, he will still play that shit DW set with one bass drum and all the percussion sampled um, yeah "that shit DW kit," that the guy who's been playing drums for over 40 years decided he likes better than any of the other umpteen brands of drums he's played in his lifetime. do you think his dw's sound better than his old tama's? Based on playing low and high-end Tama kits (and owning one), and playing DWs for the past 10 years or so, I'd say DW drums are WAY better than TAMA in general. What you hear on a recording or at a live show is not a good comparison to what a kit sounds like up close and un-amplified in a room with good acoustics. Neil's kits over the years have been recorded by various producers, in various studios, using various mics/recording equipment, etc. Even if you go to a Rush concert in two different venues on the same tour, the sound may be significantly different, because no two venues are alike acoustically. On top of that, the technology involved in all this has changed over the years, the way albums are mixed and mastered has changed, and the difference between old analog vinyl and tape vs MP3 and CD has evolved as well. That's not even getting into the differences between Neil's technique 40 years ago, compared to post-Freddie Gruber, which also affects the sound of the kit. So to make a long story short--you would only be able to tell if you heard both kits side by side in the same room without mics. I only know, because I've been a drummer for 30+ years, and I've played a lot of different kits from different drum companies.
  21. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Aug 4 2012, 12:09 AM) QUOTE (smsterner94 @ Jul 24 2012, 06:02 PM) I sincerely doubt it. Triggering is MUCH easier. And we all know how much Neil like triggers. We should call him the Lone Ranger! FAIL. Lone Ranger was "Hi-ho Silver, away!" Trigger was Roy Rogers' horse.

  23. 12/22/81--always thought it was the Moving Pictures Tour (as the jersey said on the back), but one site lists it as the Exit...Stage Left Tour.
