  1. That's a good one, but I still prefer YYZ2112. Well, I FINALLY got my tag. It was supposed to take 4-6 weeks, but actually took 6 1/2 weeks. http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd499/FLY_IGGLES_FLY/YYZ2112a.jpg http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd499/FLY_IGGLES_FLY/YYZ2112b.jpg
  2. Ok, either I'm an absolute moron, or this site is not very user friendly, or possibly a little of both. It seems like any time I try to upload or link to an image or video, I am never able to accomplish it. Is there a help page somewhere on the site explaining how to do these things? If so I'd appreciate it if someone would point me to it. :banghead: :banghead: :fuckinputer: :fuckinputer: :fuckinputer:
  3. I'm curious to know why 53? I like it because Alex is by far my favorite guitar player and I was born on May 3rd. I'v always sort of considered 5 and 3 to be my "lucky numbers" as well.
  4. Maybe you are over thinking that? Geddy has said Tom Sawyer is the "quintessential" Rush song. That doesn't mean he is discounting all the other songs. I think Neil's comment was probably more in that vein. On the other hand, Neil has said that he wishes that Rush hadn't had to release any of the records they made before Moving Pictures. So maybe Empty Mindless Spectre is simply assuming that Neil is being consistent with himself. I say this in all sincerity and not at all to poke (as I am genuinely curious) ... where did you read or see him say that? I have heard some similar references in a variety of contexts, but I have yet to actually see something to verify it. The closest I have found is some commentary in which he laments the notion that he is a staunch right Libertarian because of Anthem, 2112, etc. Basically, some stuff in which he generally says he was young and had a different mindset. I could see how those comments could be construed as disliking the early stuff, but it's not quite the same. But I have not actually found a quote in which he says he wishes nothing prior to MP had been released. I would interested to see it. I asked the same question in another thread, and someone posted something to the effect of that he thought the early years were learning years and that Rush didn't really start until Moving Pictures. I doubt very seriously that Neil really wishes those albums didn't exist. My guess it's more that he feels his lyrics were not as well crafted or something. I've often kind of wondered if they look back on the old albums differently than we do. They were pretty young when they started out. I got out of bed to respond to this... "Those were the growing years. I often equate that to children's drawings on the refrigerator that hang around too long, you know? I really wish they would just go away. I think we really started....wow, given my druthers, I would make our first album Moving Pictures. I can't think of a single reason not to do that!" - Peart Which is perfectly understandable if you take into consideration that they're always learning and looking forward. I wouldn't expect anything less than this from him. He's a perfectionist. The more I think about it, I think this might just be Neil being a bit eccentric. At the end of the Clockwork Angels video, he has a big smile on his face as he says "We have assumed control!", which suggests to me that he still enjoys playing 2112. I just can't fathom or accept that one of the three guys who wrote and recorded songs like Natural Science, La Villa Strangiato, and Xanadu can truly wish those songs would just go away. That just seems too absurd to really be true.
  5. Yep, I was right there with you, though I'm not sure skeptical is the right word. I think cautious would better describe my comprehension of verbiage that others took as definitive confirmation of a tour starting this coming spring. Funny, I just had a conversation at last Saturday's kRush show at JB McGinnes with a guy who asked me if I had heard about the upcoming tour, and he swore up and down that they were definitely touring. But the fact is, until it is posted on Rush.com, nothing is official. But maybe this is just the Philadelphia sports fan in me coming through… after all these painful years, I think I've learned to keep my hopes and expectations in check. :hockeygoon:
  6. No, he's not the one with the hat. He's sitting on a beige sofa with a lamp at each end, his arm is resting on a pillow, and he has one leg tucked up and under the other. He's about twenty pounds overweight and has very dark brown hair. He is right after the Smashing Pumpkins guy. They are all talking about La Villa. Hmmm… when you said Charles Manson eyes I thought you were talking about Jack Black. But maybe you mean Mike Portnoy, the ex-drummer from Dream Theater… he talked a bit about LVS and what a great drum song it is. I think he also mentioned YYZ. Well Jack Black was the guy I initially thought of, but since he is essentially the subject of the thread I figured Lorraine knew who he was. FWIW, I don't think he normally has those Manson looking eyes, but I'm almost convinced he was tripping during that interview.
  7. Could be Zakk Wylde as well I think…. http://cbskluv2.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/zakk_wylde.jpg
  8. Is this the guy? http://www.vandohalen.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/mikePortnoy.jpg http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/noisecreep.com/files/2011/04/mike-portnoy-davembenettgettyimages.jpg

  10. I didn't mind the Jack Black interview so much, though I do agree his singing TSOR was a bit cheesy. All in all, i liked what he had to say, and came away from it thinking he is a true Rush fan. I'm 99% sure he was either tripping or really high on some amazingly good weed though. The part of BTLS that bothered me twas when Neil said that Moving Pictures was "when Rush became Rush". As if everything prior to MP was worthless.
  11. Empty Mindless Spectre

    Nice

Very cool stuff! Thanks for sharing.
  12. My Magic 8-Ball says that your roommate's father's apparent old college buddy is usually full of shit.
  13. Another fantabulous performance indeed! Cut to the Chase (one of my top 10 favorites post Moving Pictures) is a great addition to an already impressive repertoire. Looking forward to Rams Head Live!
  14. Since KennyLee is too modest, here you go. Keep in mind that as good as these two videos sound, they sound MUCH. MUCH better in person. And BTW, these guys are playing tonight at JB McGinnes in New Castle, DE. Be there or be square! http://youtu.be/ixa_8l0wajw http://youtu.be/EVhMDrMvG5o
  15. IT's finally here!!! Looking forward to another awesome kRUSH show this evening! If anyone is on the fence about going, I promise you will love these guys. And JB McGinnes is very easy to get to… it's only about 1 mile off of I-95. Hope to see you there! :haz:
  16. No, no, no, no, no…. the best song on VT is Peaceable Kingdom, which I'm happy to say has been surprisingly well represented in this thread! What You're Doing By-Tor Beneath, Between, & Behind Hemispheres Circumstances (Parts of The Necromancer are as heavy as it gets, but overall not as heavy as some others) Can't believe I'm leaving Bastille Day off this list but I can only choose 5... List #2: Headlong Flight Peaceable Kingdom Cut to the Chase Afterimage Malignant Narcissism
  17. True indeed, but 'Return of the Prince' from the same album is, IMO, the most melodic piece of music (and the best melody) that Rush has ever recorded. Especially the guitar solo. Listen to it once and the tune is still in my a week later (not that that's a bad thing)!
  18. I also think the early section of Vital Signs features some nice high-hat work.
  19. Nice call! I swear I was going post the same thing. Lessons is one of my favorites! :goodone:
  20. Subdivisions and Time Stand Still are tied at the top of my list. It always baffles me in threads like this that Tom Sawyer gets brutalized yet Subdivisions remains unscathed. Subdivisions has received equal fanfare and airplay (or very close to it), and it has been played on every tour since its release, but is it honestly that great of a song??? IMO, Tom Sawyer is a considerably better song. And I agree that both have been overplayed and over recognized, but as I see it, Tom Sawyer is: A.- a much better song than Subdivisions B - criticized eons more than Subdivisions I just don't get it.
  21. That's a good one, but I still prefer YYZ2112.
