  1. Over 1600 posts on a Rush forum and you won't buy their CD until you're absolutely sure that it's worthy of your dollars
  2. Well I didn't have any choice but to get the fan pack a couple of weeks ago - HMV in London didn't have the CD and I was walking out I took a glimpse and saw the pack - next to magazines. Haven't read it though - I'm saving it for when I can have a few hours with no interruptions
  3. The Pass for me - three verses where Peart just adds a bit more each time
  4. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 1 2012, 07:05 PM)QUOTE (RushBowler2112 @ Jul 1 2012, 07:01 PM) Can anyone hear the Rush in this new album? It definitely sounds like Rush in many parts! Now that you've pointed it out, I can really start to hear the Rush influence in so many of these songs. I didn't expect it to sound much like Rush at first, but wow! They really surprised me! Brilliant
  5. Guess a lot depends on what floats your boat - it's music after all and opinions will always differ - just like no two people can 100% agree on what their best songs are. Off the top of my head Alex was incredibly inspiring as a guitarist on songs like Force Ten, Afterimage, Vapor Trail, Villa, Dreamline, Ghost of a Chance (great story behind his solo), Middletown Dreams, and Counterparts not only for his playing but for the awesome tone. Alex has his own certain style, like in Red Barchetta, where how he starts his solo on the fretboard is very unnatural to most of us mere mortals. The acid test is probably going to be if someone you know were to play CA in its entirety including the various guitar tracks - if I had been able to write & play that I'm pretty sure I'd be classed as a guitar god. Which Alex is

  7. QUOTE (Two0neOneTwo @ Jun 28 2012, 05:06 PM) Counterparts though has some amazing Alex solos. And sonically was their last truly great production top to bottom. Animate LTTA Cold Fire Everyday Glory Cut To The Chase All are fantastic Alex Lifeson solos. Even Double Agent and Between Sun and Moon have fantastic Alex riffage and solo sections. His rhythm work on CP is also outstanding!!! I would agree that T4E and VT (no solos basically) were ho hum records guitar wise in the that particular department (solo). But Alex really killed it with his guitar work on Snakes and Arrows and again on CA. On Test For Echo he had some crazy good guitar on Totem, the title track and Driven. On VT his fret work on the title track is legendary. Also Ghost Rider has some very intricate playing. Which brings us to CA. I feel Alex went old school 80's on this album for the most part. And I love it. Hi folks, my first post on here too though I've been a lurker for a while. 43 years old, playing for longer than I can remember, have seen them a few times, and a bit of Rush nut - I even have #27 of his signed Axcess...and am yet to be divorced ! In agreement with the above I'm still going through CA, so far I see a lot of great guitar work and while I haven't really picked up my guitar to try and play any part of it so far (unlike let's say Dreamline, first time I heard the Roll the Bones CD, I HAD to learn that solo = there's so many live versions of it which are absolutely brilliant) but at the same time I'm enjoying CA as "work of talented musicians".... I can totally understand if Lifeson wants to work on stuff which sound less intricate - they're a 3 piece band after all and he's had to make Rush sound much bigger - one can't blame him for taking a looser approach having had to nail 20 different things for each song for decades Ultimately reckon that exactly like their albums there will be differences in what guitarists think is Lifeson's best moment - but I can confidently say that he's still a fantastic guitarist and musician
