  1. It's an older album already but it was later in his career. Sunken Condos by Donald Fagen. maan if Walter Becker who was still alive back then had played on it....you'd have a killer Steely Dan album. Fun fact......Segue had been loving this album WHILE bagging on the dan. BITCH!!!!!!! it was so funny. it was a dan record basically, lol Mick
  2. Magic is a GREAT album. i've said later boss is hit or miss but Magic hits it all the way out of the park. Mick
  3. This thread has me re-playing 13 by Sabbath um........yea can't include it. it's one big tribute to better times. every song echoes another. Not a bad thing but with them it's coming across as see what we used to be? ok now go put thoes albums on, lol Mick
  4. he will be once YOU become a die hard, lol we know what you do Mick
  5. here's the caveat though. if you're not a fan of his solo stuff. i can't see you getting much from it. i adore the guy so it's been fun. not like i've loved his whole solo career but you get me, lol Mick
  6. Oh and Elvis Costello has been on a roll too. Mick
  7. I hate to be THAT guy sucking off a Beatle. but i will be. Paul Mccartney's later career from 2005 on has been.....by and large absolutly FANTASTIC. Mick
  8. If we're included solo acts. Springsteen has been on a mini resurgence with his last 2. he has such a rocky later era (IMO) these last 2.....not counting the covers album.....where like. "where has THIS Bruce been? Mick
  9. Taking Out the Astonishing Mangini era of DT has been aces as well. I loved A View from the Top of the World. Mick
  10. Judas Priest The last two. Blue Oyster cults last album was AMAZING. I really enjoyed the last rolling Stones and i'm not even a big fan. Iron Maiden. yes you can argue they're all too long which i agree but they all have Quality songs. Styx last two. Mick
  11. Deep Purple-Fireball (9/10) This a great record. Anyone's Daughter.....is a thing they did but i love everything else!!! DP is one of thoes bands i put em on and i love them more than i thought, lol Mick
  12. Frank Zappa-Roxy & Elsewhere (10/10) My fav zappa era and band. I also have the Roxy Live performance box that has the complete concerts from his Roxy stay. He really started flexing on the guitar during this era too. Mick
  13. i do love peaches too. i will admit that song smokes. Mick
  14. i'll tell you why....i'm not a fan of all instrumental albums. simple as that. i appreciate the talent on there but i get bored really quick if there's no vocals. i can deal with an isolated instrumental on an album. which Zappa has done too. but a full album i just zone out. i mean it does have one vocal in Willie The Pimp but that's it, Mick
  15. i'm forever bouncing between Making Movies and Love over Gold as my fav. both tremendous records. Mick
  16. thing is zappa was so prolific that i think everyone has different favs. i know people who love the early Mothers period best. That's probably my least fav era. i also am not fond of his classical ventures. ii think my fav band he had is the 73-76 one. so that's like Over-nite Sensation to One size fits all album wise. Mick
  17. Ok Zappa. i have decided to give you my 15 favs but ranked . now just to put this in perspective. he released about 60 albums JUST IN HIS LIFETIME. And i don't know how many more posthumously. i will include live albums in here. because every live album always had new material not on studio albums. and really all his live stuff had numerous studio overdubs anyway. with that in mind. and BTW i hope this helps budding fans who might be interested 1. Over-Nite Sensation 2. Zappa In New York (live) 3. Apostrophe 4. Shiek Yerbouti (semi live with Studio Elements) 5. Roxy & Elsewhere (live) 6. Zoot Allures 7. Tinseltown Rebellion (live) 8. You Are What You Is 9. Joe's Garage 10. One Size Fits All 11. You Can't Do that On Stage Anymore vol 1 (live) 12. You Can't Do that....Vol. 2 (live) 13. We're only In it For the Money 14. Sleep Dirt 15. Them or us. those are my fav 15. if any interests you and you feel hooked. there's plenty more out there but i feel ANY of these are good starts. Mick
  18. Judas Priest Invincible Shield (8/10) Is this my fav JP album? no. Do i think it's a little long and they left some fat on there? yes. However. this is still a remarkable record and i don't think i can be any prouder of one of my fav bands. i went in thinking there's no way they are besting Firepower. That album was like an adrenaline shot and it nearly winded me from start to finish. this album.....honestly none of it gives me that specific feeling. I know that sounds like a bash but it's not. This album while true not as uniformly strong to me......has it's own vibe and mood that helps it stand on it's own. and that is amazing for a 50 year band. and in defense of IS. to thoes fans who won't give newer JP a chance cause KK ain't involved or glenn isn't as involved for health reasons (and yes there are)........you guys are damn fools. These last 2 albums are as good as ANY prime KK era Priest and i stand by that. Mick
  19. i'm not saying anything's bad. but you know me. i'm not gonna rave over songs i think aren't quite on par. the album's a stronger 8 for me. That thrills me for JP Mick
  20. I played just the 2nd half last night and right now. and sorry IMO it would still make a weaker album on the whole. BUT i LOVE As God is My Witness, Escape From Reality, Giants In the Sky and the Lodger. Although i hate the way the Lodger just.....stops. it like they hit the stop button while recording and left it, lol. Now other songs do this but for some reason that sounds really clunky to me. I do not know whys i don't like a song like Trial By Fire. it's pretty Classic modern JP. but it bores me. Sons of Thunder is meh. Vicious Cycle is good but it ends just when i think "hey this is fun" wish it was a tad longer. Bottom line is i'm glad that first half is there. i think it bolsters and does raise the whole project. Having said that i like the 2nd half. Nothing BAD just very much less impactful is my verdict. Mick Mick
