  1. The first time I ever heard RUSH was when I was 12 in 1980. I was at the school carnival and was on one of those rides where some dirty scrubby looking carnie guy plays his favorite music....He happened to play The Spirit of Radio. Many tunes were played on that ride but I was instantly hooked to that one song. Some time later I heard Tom Sawyer and recognized the voice and bought my first RUSH album. I thought for sure I'd find The Spirit of Radio on MP that day but didn't and was satisfied with MP. After playing the album 100 times I had to find The Spirit of Radio and eventually did. But it was Exit...Stage Left. So I bought that album, my 2nd RUSH album and then heard other songs that I loved....I then bought the other albums in descending order at that time as there was only 8 studio albums and 2 live Albums....I was in hog heaven with so much material(1981)to listen and dissect...I love how their setlist is also in descending order. I know the end is near for them but they will always be a part of my playlist during the year. Usually around their new tour I start playing all of their albums again to get back into it before they come to Tampa...I love all of their music no matter how much they evolved. If I had to pick my top 4 RUSH albums I'd say this: 1. Moving Pictures( my first) 2. Clockwork Angels 3. 2112 4. Permanent Waves

They played a lot of the 70's in the past 2000's tours..... The real problem is people are spoiled brats! When CA was released it was clearly obvious that they were going to play 7+ songs from it....You could just tell....I think CA is a tremendous CD and probably their best material since MP( my opinion) and am happy to see that they are playing a lot of it.... The perfect setlist is never going to happen, get over it people!

Maybe they'll sell kung fu power angel dolls as souvenirs? Maybe they'll make a saturday morning cartoon out of them? Maybe a lot of Power Windows and CA but they still changed up the end in Chicago with: YYZ ,Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Overture, Temples and the Grand Finale..... People are getting too worked up over the setlist.....I like all of the RUSH eras and while I was not A HUGE fan of the the mid to late 80's RUSH, I still like that era and can not complain of this setlist.... They wanted to apparently represent CA and why not? CA is terrific and want to hear it live so who cares if they play 9 songs? But the perfect setlist that people want is not going to happen....Every tour since Vapor Trails had many old songs from the 70's...Did people miss this? Heck, my 1st concert was Grace Under Pressure and from that tour1984- until the 2000's I had never heard A Passage to Bangkok...They brought it back and there were many others I didn't hear from the moldy oldy era.....So I got my fill and this tour brings back some others I had not yet heard like Grand Designs, they never came to my town in the PW tour........ I have no issues with people complaining and I still remeber my 1st tour in 1984 when some of the older 70's RUSH fans were complaining in the bathrooms about not hearing enough of RUSH and Caress of Steel at the GUP tour.... So what has changed with fans? NOTHING! You're the one getting worked up if anyone is by the look of this post... I am just amazed of the complaining....It is a RUSH concert, ENJOY!

Do you think there's a hidden message in the first 7 Albums fortelling their future appearances? Now do a setlist representation of every tour since Vapor Trails..................................... Can't they change it up? So they threw a curve, so? Back in 1984 we didn't have the message boards to see the setlist 2 months in advance of them coming to our town unless we called a friend who lived in a certain town....In some ways these message boards are just here to piss and moan.... I would think people would like to just hear a RUSH concert at this stage of their careers in 2012....Talking about being severely spoiled brats???? Back in 1984 99% of us who went to the those tours did not think they would be still touring some 28 years later......I always thought when they came in town that could be the last we see of them..... Enjoy the shows......How can you complain about these guys who are still touring?????? Look at the Beatles....I believe they quit touring after 1966 and their best stuff came afterwards........ We still have RUSH touring since 1974.......Just think who was still around in those days.....Rock Bands who were touring..... This band had only one hiatis and there was a real reason for it....What are your people going to do when there are no more RUSH tours? Complain that the DVD's didn't have Making Memories on them??????

  6. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Sep 17 2012, 01:51 PM) Look I'm a real big fan of the 80's and a hugh fan of Clockwork Angels. I was turned on to RUSH during the Keyboard era, Signals to be exact. So this setlist is a wet dream for me. However, I can also see the big picture and place myself in others people's shoes. To them this setlist is pretty one-sided. Excluding any CA newbies, they have completely ignored their 70's and post Roll the Bones fans. (I'm sure they are out there). Even I could have used some older or rarer stuff now that I'm familiar with there entire catalog. Just about everyone was expecting Jacobs Ladder or Xanadu this time around. Not only did they not get those but we didn't get anything from that era, nor anything from CP or VT. Everyone want to hear the songs from the era they fell in love with RUSH in and with such a vast catalog encompassing their career its becomes increasingly difficult to satisfy everyone. However, they could have at least provided some tunes from all eras in question. 70s's: Finding My Way, Fly By Night, Xanadu, By-Tor & Snowdog, Passage to Bangkok, Cygnus X-1, Hemisphere (Prelude) La Villa, The Trees, Closer to the Heart, Classic Era: Jacobs Ladder, Red Barchetta, Freewill or Limelight 80's: Overly represented 90's+00's Cut to the Chase, Cold Fire, Alien Shore, Vapor Trails, Secret Touch, One Little Victory, Driven, Test for Echo, Limbo S&A and CA: Well Represented. Basically a more well rounded setlist, Include everyone! They should always include every era in their setlist at least one to two songs. Thats why The Sankes and Arrows tour was well received. It contained songs from basically every era as did the Time Machine Tour. The current setlist moved away from that and it really left many asking "How about us?" They could have chosen Xanadu instead of Working Man, Limelight Instead of Bravado, Jacobs Ladder instead of Territories and Cut to the Chase or Test for Echo instead of The Big Money. The People that are disappointed aren't disgruntaled. They just want a seat at the table. They want a piece of feast. This setlist, however appetizing, is all turkey without any sides. Everyone is hungry and everyone knows the restaurant is nearing its closing. Its great that the current changes including 2112 and The Spirit of Radio might become permanent. This is a big move in the right direction. Now if they could only switch out Red Sector A for Xanadu or Jacobs Ladder. People might just stop complaining...........Maybe? Most of the tours of the 2000's represented the 70's very well......Can't they represent the 80's this time around and of course the new CA???????
  7. QUOTE (rayrushray @ Sep 14 2012, 06:57 AM) For all the 10,000.00 fans on TRF that are elated with the bands set list decisions, there will be hundreds of thousand of fans not on TRF that are disappointed. Make no mistake hard core fans, the casual fans sitting next to you that you deem unworthy, are the ones that allow Rush to still play in arenas rather than theaters. 5,500 to 6,000 fans in Pittsburgh may soon become the norm on this tour rather than the exception. Like my opinion or not, the financial realities will soon set in. Not in Tampa! There are only a handful of tickets left...

It's very insulting to do this to the fans that got them there, but apparently there are other generations after who seem to love their post 1985 stuff. That's fine, I just think that Rush could put aside 45 minutes in their set list to please the older fans. After all that is the least they could do and they #!#@%ing know it. The O.P. , who i Don't agree with has an opinion , look it up. How can you complain about a RUSH concert in 2012? Did anybody think in 1985 that RUSH would still be touring in 2012? 27 years later? What a bunch of spoiled brats you people are...... Im assuming you are too young (or maybe not, and if not ...) to remember the pre-internet "Neil has cancer" rumor and that the GuP tour was going to be a farewell tour. So, to your point, in 1983/84 we thought we had one year left, and that was almost 30 years ago! Hahahahaa. I remember that rumor as well and being very concerned about Neil's health, hysterical... To the point in the original post: As a fellow "old school" fan who got to see them at their peak of popularity (and ability, IMO) in the MP/Signals era, I relate and sympathize with the points he makes regarding the clear, undeniable lack of early material. HOWEVER, much of the material that many fans of our era dismiss/view as subpar (for me 87-though 91), like it or not, is already a quarter century old and classic in their own right (despite the fact that we will never view it that way), and is liked by a large portion of the younger fanbase. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've given up on getting that classic 70s-80s setlist. But instead feel lucky to get those amazing gems from time to time (this year, Analog, last tour Camera), and enjoy the fact that theyre still around and playing at such a high level. And one more thing: that "true Rush fan" talk is total bullshit. The reason I said they are not true RUSH fans was because I feel they are "selected era" RUSH fans....It is MY OPINION! The TRUTH hurts, huh? I like all of their music, 70's-2000's.....I learned to adapt unlike some of you ungrateful RUSH fans....I am just happy to hear they are touring in 2012....Why piss and moan about setlist? Can't you be happy that they are still around?

  12. How can ANYBODY complain about a RUSH concert in 2012???? Seriously? People getting all worked up over songs? What are you all going to do when they decide to retire? And who thought back in 1985 that RUSH would be playing concerts in 2012? Seriously? Quit complaining and enjoy it while it lasts! Geez! 13. QUOTE (FenderJazz42 @ Sep 9 2012, 02:33 PM) Very selfish setlist. I hate when bands play the majority of their latest album. Nobody wants to hear this many songs from CA. To make things worse I've always hated Force Ten and Big Money , and they have been played to death on so many tours since they have been released. I'm guessing this setlist will basically be identical throughout the whole tour. No, they have an A setlist and a B setlist.....B has 2112 on it as well as Middletown Dreams and a few other changes..
  14. QUOTE (treeduck @ Sep 8 2012, 10:19 AM) I've no problem with them doing lots of Clockwork Angels, we knew they were gonna do that and it's a very good album (but I would prefer Seven Cities to Halo Effect and BU2B to Wish Them Well). Or the Power Windows songs...though there's probably too many... If they're giving some songs a rest why not give Working Man a rest and Tom Sawyer? If they're doing songs not played for a while off GUP why not Kid Gloves or Afterimage? Why play Bravado and Where's My Thing again? Why not something like Cut to the Chase and alien Shore? There's nothing from A Farewell to Kings, nothing much from Permanent Waves, nothing from Hemispheres. In fact there's 1 song from the 70s... Ok I'm nit picking maybe but this is just not my kind of setlist I suppose, too much from the mid 80s, & the same old 90s tracks and almost zero from the 70s... Geddy's voice can't handle the 70's anymore....

If they got rid of at least one of the three, that would seriously help the setlist. You people are nuts! Limelight, Sawyer, 2112 are the main reasons why I got addicted to RUSH...It was in 1981 when I was 13 and I heard The Spirit of Radio on some fair ride...Limelight is my alltime favorite song as that is his best solo IMO.....They will no doubt continue with these songs...These are anchor songs...
  18. I started listening to RUSH in 1981 as Tom Sawyer grabbed hold of me...I then bought my 1st RUSH album Moving Pictures...A little later Exit..Stage Left was released and that is where I fully understood what RUSH was as that album had some of their best songs recorded live at the time...I then bought everything and listened to every song from RUSH-Permanent Waves...I am a huge fan of the older material as that was all I was used at the time..But I also adapted to the newer material after MP and was never disappointed and understand why they made changes to their sound during the years.....Now this brings me to Clockwork Angels.... This is their 1st album where I listened to every song over and over and over again since Moving Pictures....I always loved the new releases as their 1st single was always a great song....Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning, The Big Money,Force Ten, Show Don't Tell, Stick It Out, Test For Echo, One Little Victory, Far Cry were terrific 1st singles.....But usually the rest of the songs from those albums didn't grab hold of me like Clockwork Angels has....I really enjoy every song on this new album...I think some of it has to do with some of their earlier sound is all over this album....Just think of how many songs or older albums(74-82) where you can hear those sounds in Clockwork...I think they did a tremendous job with this album....My favorites are The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold , Headlong Flight and the Title track. A lot of people judge a song with the lyrics....I make my judgements with their music....Now of course I read all of Neil's lyrics but it will not change an opinion of a particular song....I can't wait for the tour to start!

Cut the bullshit like Where's my Thing, Test for Echo, Cut to the Chase and Lock and Key and add Closer to the Heart, Fly by Night and Finding My Way and In the End. Dude, add your own set list, don't butcher mine. Bullshit? Honestly the only song you added that I would consider replacing would be Finding my Way. Closer to the Heart is over played, Fly by Night hasn't been done in ages. Why? Who knows, maybe because they can't reproduce the rhythm guitar during the lead. And the title would pretty much tell you were to place "In the End" I think they play Fly By Night in this tour...I have been seeing RUSH since 1982 and have not heard Fly By Night YET! Alex did say they are playing songs they have not played in a long time and I feel Fly By Night will be one of them.....And Alex said in the 80's that they were bored of playing Fly By Night so they cut it from their setlist back then...They can't reproduce the rhythm guitars in the lead? Please...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It was done in the 70's...

Seven Cities of Gold 4.Headlong Flight 5.BU2B 6. The Wreckers 7. The Garden They could play Carnies instead of BU2B or just include it.. 7-8 songs from 1 album? I think it is going to happen... Thoughts? You missed the title track. That one, for sure, will be played. It hasn't even been played once yet, and I read an interview with Neil where he said he 'hopes it stays in the live set forever'. (I believe this is from the fanpack magazine) They must like it. Actually, I didn't listen to the song too much until later and I agree 100% that they will play this song...After one spin through I was too focused on The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, Headlong Flight and Carnies. After hearing those songs numerous times I am on to the others now...
  22. QUOTE (glennb2112 @ Jun 26 2012, 09:30 AM) BU2B and Wish them well better not omit Wreckers.. The Wreckers is a like a pop song....Good melodies to sing with and I believe that song would get new fans involved with RUSH... I think Geddy enjoys this song and will certainly not cut it from their set...
  23. We did hear Caravan and BU2B on their last tour...They might omit BU2B but who knows... I think Halo Effect, BU2B2, Wish Them Well and BU2B will not make the cut....The rest for sure IMO!

  25. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 15 2012, 12:15 PM) There is also a nod to Hemispheres from Neil in the lyrics. He says "fire" in both songs. The Hemisphere sound is also in FAR CRY....
