  1. Try seeding your station with a song instead of the band. I used LVS, the live in rio version because thats all Pandora has, and it has worked great pulling in a lot of Yes and other seventies prog as well as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Opeth, etc.
  2. Well SA is new to me. I've only had it about a year. I lost track of Rush after RTB when I reconnected and learned about CP-SA, SA was the first one I bought. Still don't have CP or TFE. But for me CA blows SA away. I've probably listened to CA more this week than I have SA since I bought it. CA kicks ass over everything since PW for sure and maybe even since MP.
  3. QUOTE (deathlikesilence @ Jul 25 2012, 06:32 PM) QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jul 25 2012, 06:29 PM) QUOTE (spock @ Jul 25 2012, 06:26 PM) Someday, folks other than us at TRF will look back at a band who stayed together, stayed fresh musically, stayed friends, and didn't become a parody of themselves and realize - there's no one else like that. Really: no other group. It's this notion that leads me to believe there will be a cult following for the boys long after they're gone. dying will make them hip i'll start the COURTNEY KILLED GEDDY rumor
  4. Just saw Steve Miller and Pat Benatar last week. Next show I have tix for... in Nov. I was going to try to go to see Yes in Aug but my car developed expensive problems yesterday so that's probably not going to happen now grrr damn typos
  5. Van Halen 1981 Fresno Selland Arena. I had nosebleeds in the back and the sound absolutely sucked. But it was still and EVH was smokin'
  6. QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jul 10 2012, 07:37 PM) QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 10 2012, 07:16 PM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jul 10 2012, 05:58 AM) QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ Jun 15 2012, 03:45 PM) QUOTE (Snaked @ Jun 14 2012, 11:11 AM) QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jun 14 2012, 01:47 PM) I think the reason for the loudness war might be due to the invention of the ipod. Everyone is trying to make sure their song volumes arent lacking compared to others. The loudness wars started long before the invent of the iPod. Indeed it did. This has been going on for decades. Listen to some records. Actual vinyl records and you can hear all kinds of compression there as well. It just isn;t as grating as digital compression. Um, mr. audio expert... Please explain how you 'compress' an analog signal. You 'experts' crack me up... What kind of credentials do you bring to the table? I compress audio and video for a living. Analog is a signal. An analog compressor or limiter is an effect. You are altering the signal not making it smaller in size. Totally different than digital compression. Digital is 0s and 1s. You compress a digital file by making it smaller. I could explain how this is done, but then I'd have to kill you. Apple was very cute by naming their great compression program, Compressor. It is great! What these so-called experts are implying is that a CD /DVD holds information in the same manner as a vinyl record album. I know we call it "burning" a disc, but it's not what you think. In fact, commercial discs are not "burned" at all. They are essentially a picture of the master disc stamped onto a disc. Well there's compression http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war and then there's compression http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_(file_format) Totally different things dude. But then you should know that.
  7. Bay Area radio sucks and I seldom listen to it, but out of curiosity I looked over the posted playlists for 107.7 The Bone. Since the release they have played HF 8x. To put it in perspective, in that same period the latest Chickenfoot - 10x, the latest ZZ Top - 8x, Black Keys - 4x, VH - 2x. of course the majority of the plays for all the new stuff was after midnite and before 6:00 am. We don't have a New Rock station here. Just 1 alternative station and 3 classic rock stations. Of the classic rock only 107.7 will play anything released less than 15yrs ago.
  8. QUOTE (The Lofty Oaks @ Jul 8 2012, 10:13 AM) QUOTE (vital signz @ Jul 1 2012, 11:34 AM) I have been monitoring folks' favorites and least favorites here... Lots of folks are placing it in their bottom tier. That is mind-blowing to me. This song has such a cool intro, huge build-up, then KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM, KA-BLAM.......... Geddy hits high notes of old. His bass has an incredible sound. Alex plays some great riffs and has some awesome tremolo work, and has a nice emotive solo. Neil, well is Neil. Is it the lyric, the music, the theme? What turns people off? I think the Seven Cities has far too many "KA-BLAMS" No seriously. I really like the song but for me there are other better songs that just jump ahead of it on the depth chart. I love the Zeppeli-esque groove and throwback vibe but I think it is a little too repetitive. A few more variations on that groove would be nice. I think the song begs for an old school Page style bluesy wah solo rather than the atmospheric stuff. Lyrically I think the story could be a bit more developed. Its a little too general for me. THat being said I love the song and never skip it. You hit it right on the head with the guitar solo. This song called for some serious shredding in the solos and Alex just didn't deliver. Disapointing but its still a rockin' song.
  9. Rush Van Halen Silversun Pickups Joe Bonamassa Styx
  10. QUOTE (GoldRush @ Jul 7 2012, 08:40 PM) I think the question is simple ... I believe the best is 2112 Followed by Presto ... Thank you for answering ... Presto better than Hemi or CA Don't get me wrong Presto is a great song but the other two are just.....epic.
  11. I was going to say Signals by a mile. Then I went and listened to them both all the way through for the first time in ages. Wow was PoW a great album. But so was Signals. I'm still giving it to Signals but thats just because of nostalgia. Signals was released during my freshman year of high school.
  12. QUOTE I never thought the dumbing-down process could get any worse. Yea but nothing personal.
