Headlong Flight has become the new live favorite. I'll call it a sleeper, because casual fans might not know it by name yet -- but it rocks live. People love it. Great review -- great show. Lord Stanley and his cup-- classic RUSH!!!

There was an interview earlier this year or last year when they were asked about Tom Sawyer being left off a setlist—Alex and Geddy smiled sheepishly and said something like: "Oh, no, we're Canadian.... and too polite for that." It was obvious that they no longer feel the need to play it every show, but they also had a true appreciation for how it changed their career and launched them into to a whole new league of arena rock acts. It's interesting to watch how Tom Sawyer is placed / presented from one tour to the next. From Signals through GuP tours -- it was the #2 song right behind the opener TSOR -- RUSH was getting the audience really, really fired up about being at a RUSH show with back to back crowd pleasers. Then, for GuP and PW it was moved to the end of the setlist as pre-encore closer or the first song of the encore. HYF, Presto, RTB -- it was exclusively the pre-encore closer. That is an interesting spot. They wanted to conclude the regular set with a crowd pleaser. This was also an acknowledgment of the commercial importance of the song. CP and TFE it was again a finale piece or part of the encore. When the returned from the Hiatus Tom Sawyer was the opener for the first time. It was the perfect choice to open that tour IMO. R30 - it opens the 2nd set then returns to the pre-encore spot for S&A. Of course it opened the MP suite for the Time Machine tour, and now it's the first song of the encore. I would say that that pre-encore spot or 1st song of encore over the years indicates the song is there as a crowd pleaser, something they feel obligated (in a good way) to do.

To all the PUBLIC ENEMY haters out there.... Only one other inductee showed RUSH some love and respect!! I didn't see Heart or Randy Newman posing for pictures with RUSH or giving out hugs. Flavor Flav was rockin' out during the entire RUSH performance, I respect that. Face it, from the point of view of the establishment and the cool crowd, Oprah et al, RUSH and Public Enemy were the loud party guests, knocking shit over and making a scene. So they found each other and bonded. f**k the cool crowd.

It was just under 3 minutes. How would you express the same thing in less than 1 minute? So people just don't get great performance art. "The noises in Lerxst's head", as Dirk would say. We were privy to the inner brilliance of Alex Lifeson.

I will always consider the L.A Forum to be Rush's L.A. home. Nothing like being a suburban 14yo getting out of your mom's station wagon in Inglewood, across from the race track, and hearing her say "Be back at 11 to pick you boys up." It was an adventure.

This is what pisses me off slightly about Peart. Now, I've no interest in meeting the guy, and would just ignore him (as he wishes) if I ever bumped into him. That's not the case for most Rush fans and many would love to tell him how much his playing/lyrics have inspired them but can't because he doesn't like that. However, if some star musician or person he idolises wants to express similar sentiments then that's ok, that's praise from the praiseworthy. In other words, you don't amount to anything so f**k off out of my face before Mosbach gets medieval on your ass. Nice. And that concludes my Saturday sermon. Have a good weekend, unless you bump into Neil Peart... I don't get that vibe at all from him. Besides, he's been doing increasingly more and more promotional stuff since R30. Not as many interviews and appearances as Geddy and Alex, but he's been out there a fair amount. And think he was very specific about what he's not comfortable with, people showing up at his house and his hotel room. I'm sure a polite and sincere compliment would not bother him under the right circumstances. People make too big deal out of Neil not doing meet&greets or as many appearances. Funny thing, when he does show up, he usually hits it out of the park, personality wise -- On Colbert, Alex the comedian hardly said a word.
