  1. WRITTEN FOR ME. I am not yet mature enough to just let people's hatred and evil just bounce off of me as the theme of the album suggest, as I still hold a lot of the hatred and angst in my hardened heart, obviously NP has been able to deal with it. It is one of the best, if not the best album, because of the incredible lyrics. I'm pretty much a new Rush fan ... I mean I've heard the classics all my life, but didn't really get into them until relatively recently. I am lyrics person, and that is why I love Rush, and I love the whole concept album concept. I understand people's concern about the wall of sound, but I didn't expect anything different when I saw it was a roadrunner record. I can't wait to see Rush live, in Atlanta, and I can't think of a better album to see promoted first. I can't quit listening to this album ... it just gets better and better. Just my honest opinion, so let the insults begin.
  2. QUOTE (greg2112 @ Jun 17 2012, 06:09 AM) Best song on the album IMO. Intense, kick ass. It will be completely insane live. Love it. Yeah, my 2nd favorite, right behind The anarchist, but barely. I am a lyrics person, so The Anarchist really hits home, but I love the lyrics on this song. "Glowing in my dreams, like hallucinations Glitter in the sun like a revelation Distant as a comet or a constellation" Hell yes.
  3. I'm glad I never took a subscription to that magazine, now. On the other hand, I really don't give a shit what other people think. If people don't like Rush, that's their loss, not mine. Still, that's quite shocking for 2112 not to be on the list. BTW, nothing wrong with Albert King ... that dude can bend the guitar strings.
  4. QUOTE (Dylan2712 @ May 23 2012, 06:33 PM) O 8 9 Y 8 T http://g.co/doodle/4yjxp3 That was bad ass!!!!!
  5. The less people that show up, the better, IMHO. As long as my wife and I get to see them, that's all that matters.
  6. QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ May 22 2012, 03:59 PM) QUOTE (Tick @ May 22 2012, 03:04 PM)I remember when Moving Pictures was released and sitting in a room waiting for the DJ to play the first cut. He kept saying,"coming up in just a little bit the new song from Rush." I was so excited I fely dizzy. Then that moment when he finally said. "and here is the new track from Rush called Tom Sawyer, on 99 rock, WPLR." It was pure bliss! I also remember waiting in line at the box office after spending the night, and walking up to the window nervously to get my tickets. Oh that feeling when you held those tickets in your hand! Seeing 5th row center on the floor, while you passed by the masses still waiting in line for there chance at the window. Pure elation! Yes, I'm an old guy who knows that the kids today are cheated from the absolute magic I experienced as a kid. It's true, my generation is definitely missing out on something. I was born in 1990, and I have no idea what it's like anticipating hearing a song for the first time on the radio or waiting in line to get tickets to a show. I don't know if I've been cheated because I simply don't know what those things are like. But I can imagine I have been. I don't really get excited about discovering new music anymore. I remember how thrilled I was as a young kid waiting to get to the store to buy a new CD, but now every new release is available for free, legally, instantaneously, on Grooveshark. I can listen to practically anything on-demand, for $3/month. I don't need to buy CDs anymore. The closest thing I've felt to the thrill of discovering new music (since I was a young kid) is finding a record I love for sale at a used record store. This is why I collect records. For the nostalgia (insofar as I can experience it at age 21). The demise of physical media as a means to distribute music (records, CDs, etc.) is something I think about often. Since I don't buy CDs anymore, what will I pass on to my children? What objects will trigger fond memories of youth when I grow older? I realize I have a choice to buy or not buy CDs, but the financial incentive is not there. Grooveshark, with its $3 all-you-can-eat musical buffet, has done away with that incentive. I can name a few things you didn't miss: Cassette tapes, because they always got stuck in the cassette player. VCR tapes, for the same reason. Rabbit ears, although with 900 channels on Satellite TV, there still isn't anything on TV worth watching 99% of the time. Smog, from cars using leaded gasoline. Cameras, because you had to buy film, pay for the film to get developed, and THEN you found out that the picture was out of focus, or streaky, or whatever. No ATMs, having to basically have cash on hand at all times, and you had to get the cash, in person, from the bank, which was only open M,T,T,F and 1/2 day on W. Feel free to add to the list.
  7. Subdivisions Bravado Distant Early Warning The Atlanta show will be my first Rush show, ever, so I'd love to hear these. Are these never, sometimes, or always done live???
  8. I have to agree with the OP. I am glad I grew up in a time where all we knew was the radio, for sports and music. Your sensory perceptions are different than when you see videos\live feed. I come to these forums for information, and maybe to meet to some people who share my fandom, but I agree with the OP, completely.
  9. QUOTE (sausage @ May 12 2012, 02:50 PM) QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ May 12 2012, 09:36 AM) I'm not sure if Sausage Time is serious here or not Rush doesn't book their own shows. They've got people who do that for them and I don't believe they have much say on where they play. They're not gonna make a special addition because somebody asks. Sorry for being serious for a minute, the goofiness can now continue hello there i am dead seriuos about asking the guys to stop in at hamilton if they could. you never know unless you try. since hamilton is the birth place of Neil Peart, i was hoping that this city might have a little pull. keepyour eye on the tour dates i bet you see a show added in hamilton. i dont see what so goofy about asking your favourite band if they might have the time to pop by. now, its sausage time, o.k. sauer kraut. I feel your pain. I know that you guys in Hamilton get screwed: your choices are to try and fight for tickets at the Toronto show, which is Rush's HQ, or deal with US Customs' BS to see the show in Buffalo, or Cleveland, both of which will also be crowded. NOT FAIR! Plus, the population of the City of Hamilton has absolutely exploded in recent years and I think that y'all should get you're own show! I hope they add the date!
  10. QUOTE (Lerxster @ May 8 2012, 01:54 PM) Where's the 'none of the above' option, for those who are going to their first show.. or for those who aren't sick to death of any of these songs. Anyone who's sick to death maybe should consider not seeing Rush live anymore. Oh, I know, I'm not playing along. Oh well.. sorry for your embarrassment of riches. I agree. The Atlanta show will be my first live show, so I hope they play all of them, but I voted for Working Man. They could replace that with Red Sector A and I would be happy. I still haven't heard every single song by Rush, though. I'm working on it. The more I listen to them the more I love them. They are musical geniuses for sure.
  11. I also started at 10 AM, this morning, and kept re-searching, until I got 2 in Orchestra 3, Row M. This is my first Rush concert, so I had to take them, I felt, even if not on Geddy Lee's side. I just hope it's worth $300, because I am not rich. I wanted to see these guys before I die, or they quit touring. I hope they play Subdivisions.
