  1. I was exactly where I am now, sitting in the office at work doing a night shift. I got a Facebook message from a friend. I was pissed at him for sending me this obvious lie, until I googled it and found out it was true. Didn't get much done that night afterwards I recall.
  2. I got into Rush in 1992 and felt a total fraud when talking about them to people then. Of course, that was before the internet but do you know what? All the Rush fans back then were just pleased I'd found the band and were incredibly kind and helpful - much like the denizens of this forum. I actually envy you in a way, you're getting to discover one of the best bands ever for the first time. How does it get better than that?

Surely everyone knows it's about chocolate bars?
  4. Sounds like a lot more than one “most treasured item”. All the LPs and that silver edition CA hardback vs each other, which ONE would you keep? Oh the music every time :) If you asked for just one LP... probably Counterparts. It took a lot of finding and i do like that album :)
  5. My complete LP vinyl collection and the silver edition hardback of Clockwork Angels :)
  6. Has to be Caress of Steel for me. I like it as an album but it's the one I listen to the least. It's weird, because if I had to rate it I'd say it was better than Test for Echo, but I listen to that more. Am I the only one who LOVES Dog Years?
  7. Went to see it 2 nights ago. I remember the exact scene you mean but didn't make the connection.... now i have to go see it again to check :D
  8. Rush fans are the best. And this forum has the best of the best :) This is a beautiful thing to do. Someone waved their magic wand and changed your heart overnight :)
  9. The sound production on the blu ray leaves something to be desired. Drums and vocals are recorded about right but Alex's guitar lacks any kind of power and is way too low in the mix. This is exscerbated by the muddy recording of Geddy's bass which is both too high in the mix AND has a nasty hump in the lower octave which dominates the sound totally. It's a bit better with the Gibson bass than the fender but it's there through the whole show. Frankly, the sound production on all the filmed shows since Snakes & Arrows Live has been poor at best. This disk can go on the rarely watched pile with Time machine and Clockwork Angels Live. A missed opportunity in my book.
  10. I'd like to know. Whoever did T4E needs a punch in the head.
  11. Just got Test for Echo today. Very disappointing... the mix is compressed, muddled and flat. Considering the quality of the pressing and the cost it's rather sad they didn't do a decent vinyl master. The original CD and the recent CD remaster both sound better :(
  12. The whole heavyweight vinyl scam is nothing but rubbish. I have old records form the 80's made from recycled vinyl that weigh as little as 80g. Thats right, eight oh. And they sound just as good as anything else. the trick in good vinyl is to get a good master and cut it correctly, then press it properly. The weight of the vinyl puck is compleltely inconsequential.
  13. In reality I actually run two turntables, with very different cartridges. My STD / Jelco arm table features a Decca London Super Gold: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/smegger68/DSC00004.jpg Has viceral dynamics and an in your face presentation. Needs a damped tonearm to work properly though, and not the best tracking cartridge in the world, but SO good on rockier material. The other TT is a Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck with a Michell technoarm and a Goldring Excel M/C cartridge: http://cgim.audiogon.com/i/vs/i/f/1094317685.jpg Quite the opposite of the Decca - liquid, velvety smooth vocals and lanquid acoustics make for a brilliant cart for a more laid back mood.
