  1. I wonder if Neil tried to get his autograph and Pete got freaked out and had Neil removed.
  2. QUOTE I wonder if it'll be anything like the Sphere part of Hempisheres? I wondered the exact same thing. And if so... that would make me smile! I appreciate all the insight from our fellow insiders! I have always felt that a good dynamic, diverse album was somewhere inside of Rush and it sounds like they have one here. I'm very curious to hear this thing now ... we have had so many opinions and snippets and reviews from those who have heard the thing, its hard to remember who said which about what. We need someone to gather up what we know thus far, track by track, and lets see how they compare. Not me. I'm too lazy for that! C'mon release date ...
  3. QUOTE It's looking like Nick R. is the best thing to happen to them since Terry Brown I have to agree with this. He seems to be able to divide the fanboy in him and the producer in him and make all the right choices... It would be a daunting task for me I know, being a hardcore fan like Nick. How do you tell your musical idols "um, don't do that"? I'd be like, play men! Play! But yea, Peter Collins was great, and I love what he did with them on PoW and CP ... but Nick seems to understand what Rush is really about. Peter Henderson would've just said, "I dunno, you decide!" and Rupert Hine would say, "Stop screaming Ged and start singing, and let's turn up the 'Wimp' to 11!" Nick seems to be able to create a nice aural palette around their music. I've said it before: I find S&A to be one of the band's weakest releases, but I love the 'sound' of it. Good production. Made me wish Nick had been around for VT.
  4. Being the anniversary of Signals I dont see Subdivisions being left out unless they replaced it with New World Man.
  5. QUOTE Why is everyone putting "all of Clockwork Angels" in their dream setlists? We haven't even heard the album yet.... My setlist was based mostly on what I think they will play. My dream set list would be waaayyyy different! It would have Jacob's Ladder, Anthem, Something for Nothing, Cut to the Chase, Superconductor, Vapor Trail ...
  6. Set One: CA in its entirety (intermission) Set Two: Far Cry Force Ten Driven Subivisions The Analog Kid Digital Man The Weapon (drum solo) (guitar solo) Closer to the Heart The Trees Xanadu The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer (encore) One Little Victory Limelight YYZ (Source: My waking/sleeping/dream state!)
  7. Well that was an interesting roller coaster ride for me this morning - glad to see you guys work it out too! Now, play nice!
  8. Ok -- I want this album RIGHT.NOW. Why did I have to read that awesome review?!
  9. QUOTE Really? Well, maybe if you got to know me... Maybe I will give you another chance!

    Caption This!

Alex: "I hope she asks me for an autograph!" Neil: "If anyone asks me for an autograph I swear I will shove the pen into their eyeballs..." Ged: "I dropped the pen I use to sign autographs! Lift your foot Lerxst!"
  11. QUOTE I still for the life of me can't understand how or why so many people abbreviate Vapor Trails as "VP" but I guess it's some quirk of the brain that registers the first 2 prominent consonants. Yes this happens to me every time I see HF - it makes me think Hold Your Fire. I have to keep telling myself, no no no!! That's HYF, not HF!
  12. I think Before and After should be played live, as its one of my favorite tracks on the first album. Hemispheres would be a boring album without The Trees and La Villa on it. The Camera Eye is my least favorite epic track. I don't like Between the Wheels and GuP is one of my least favorite albums. I love Second Nature. AFTK (the song) is overrated. I love Hand over Fist. VT is a good album, in spite of the production. I love their version of Seven and Seven Is on Feedback. Far Cry and The Main Monkey Business are the only two songs I really like on S&A. I love the new CA songs better than anything I have heard from Rush since Counterparts. Armor and Sword is boring. Emotion Detector is meh. I would rather listen to their first album than Caress of Steel. Or S&A. Did I mention I dont like S&A? Presto (the album) is better than RTB (the album).
  13. I have started mixing it in with other "modern Rush" on the computer, I've gotten into the post-RTB era lately... I must say HF certainly holds its own against all the rest! As does BU2B and Caravan. In fact, those three are stand-outs for me right now. So no -- not tired of it yet.
  14. QUOTE The reality is that even a large, impersonal retail chain like WalMart, still finds value in stocking Rush At every local Wal Mart Ive ever been in, you are on any given day only going to find MP, 2112, Retrospectives, that Icon collection they have out now, or one of the other compilations, and sometimes Signals if you are lucky. And if they have a new album, then you will see that for about 3 hours. I remember when Ged's solo album came out they promoted the hell out of it in-store, which was strange.
  15. QUOTE I brainwashed both my kids Me too!
  16. I don't want people to think I am not open to new music, I am -- in fact I have a broad interest in most types of music. It's hard to define what I like and don't like ... I mean, based solely on HF, I don't know if it would grab me in the way it does knowing its Rush, but I am sure I would find it interesting. I don't listen to the radio much so being introduced to new music usually happens by accident, as someone else noted in this thread. Or as with Rush, someone introduces me to them. There are plenty of newer bands that I have snagged songs by and downloaded. And then I sort of keep an eye on them, see how they develop before I commit to a whole album or whatever. I would probably do that with HF. One modern band I find interesting is 30 Seconds to Mars. I also like Wolfmother and Foster the People. And I discovered all of them by accident. QUOTE watch out, we might become friends if you're not careful! Nah, I actually think VT is a great album!
  17. I guess what I was trying to say is that I only have the frame of reference of how I felt when I first heard them, and I wonder if I would still feel that way now, since I do like "weird groups" ie prog groups, etc. that most folks in the mainstream ignore? I don't know. QUOTE As an example, recently I've been introduced to more recent Yes and Jethro Tull albums, both groups I truly love Oh god Goobs, does this mean we are actually more alike than I thought?! Scary!!
  18. Goobs You are right this is a difficult thing to answer or speak to - all I can think about is where was I when I first heard Rush to begin with back in the day? My musical tastes then were still evolving and being a fan of music in general, I was always up for something new and interesting. And at the time I was ripe for discovering Rush as my tastes were becoming more eclectic - I was in high school and was discovering all kinds of music. Yes and Jethro Tull were two bands I had been exploring, so Rush was a natural step. So I think I would personally approach it with a certain level of interest and curiosity. If a friend specifically asked me to listen I would be more apt to judge it based on his/her opinions. Which was exactly how I got into them in highschool, a friend introduced me to them. And yea, Ged's voice would surprise me now just like then at first. But its unique enough (as is every other aspect of this band) that I am sure I would investigate a little more deeply. And then after finding their entire back catalogue was so rich and diverse I would promptly renounce all of their new material as inferior to everything they did before Signals! Okay that last bit was a joke!
  19. Dream Songs Ive Never Heard Live: Anthem In the End Something for Nothing Cygnus X-1 Jacob's Ladder The Weapon The Enemy Within Turn the Page Superconductor The Pass Cut to the Chase Time and Motion Secret Touch Vapor Trail Nocturne Headlong Flight Songs Ive Heard But Would Love To Hear Again: Xanadu The Trees The Analog Kid Force Ten Driven One Little Victory
  20. QUOTE They're going to play Tommy Cool, I've always loved Pinball Wizard.
  21. QUOTE I always get the sense here that people are living in some sort of dream world where Rush is still relevant Were they ever, really? I mean, to all of us, yea! But this is a band that at their peak barely have been able to crack the Top 30 singles charts. And while I am an album guy myself, there was a time when singles were the thing, much like downloads are now. Singles equate to more radio airplay, which equates to more record sales. I've never pretended that Rush was on the same level (popularity wise) as bands like The Rolling Stones or Fleetwood Mac or whomever -- I fell in love with Rush for reasons of my own, and I didn't need an A/R man or a hit single to prove to me that their music was viable. And as long as they keep putting out music that is interesting, I will keep buying it. I won't stop just because rock is "dying". QUOTE and that Rush actually has a need to put out albums to justify touring. In their minds they do -- its more honest and justifies what they do. They don't want to feel like an "oldies" act living off of past glories. In their minds they are still artists on a journey, and I am glad I am along for the ride. But like I said, I've never thought of Rush as "mainstream" or "relevant" beyond my CD player or turntable or iPod. And I don't care really. It's nice to see other people, particularly young people, discover them and fall in love with them. But at the end of the day, if the music is good, that's all I care about.
  22. Although on the 2112 tour, they did (minus The Oracle) the whole suite. And on the Hemispheres tour they did the whole album as well, although I don't believe they did it all back to back. And those were "new" albums with epic length material being wielded on their respective tours. So while they probably won't -- I wouldn't say its not within the realm of being at least plausible that they might. This is Rush after all.
  23. Yea I agree, its one of those Rush "classics" that even the casual fan knows, and at this point in their career its hard to see them not doing it, in spite of the high parts. Although I seem to feel its a good thing for Ged live, helps loosen up his vocal chords early in the show (its usually mid-way through the first set when they seem to whip it out), so yea, my money is on them doing it.
