  1. We are hoping to navigate Different Stages tonight. And we might possibly work in some videos. I don't know if we can get through all of these by this weekend as we planned. But I think we can finish them by some time next week. The live albums are doing us in -- they got longer!
  2. QUOTE During AFTK I kept getting attacked by birds We have some mocking birds outside our office and they have attacked everybody!! I have been pecked and almost hit in the head by those little buggers!! QUOTE Mr & Mrs Wilb1972, Studio Albums: Rush through Counterpart: Official Live Albums: ATWS, ESL, GUP, ASOH Official Live Releases (from bonus tracks etc): Hammersmith Odeon (1978 AFTK tour) Bootleg Albums (Live in St. Louis) Added: Single Videos! 25 singles, Rush through Signals era! I guess you missed my post on the additional videos we watched, we are now all the way up through the HYF era and planning to start with the Presto era videos soon. Last night we squeezed in Test For Echo. A nice continuation of Counterparts, but lacking somewhat. While its a consistent album, and my wife and I liked most of the tracks, we found some of the lyrics to be poor. The lyrics for the title track, Dog Years, Virtuality and Totem were just ... not good! Musically we dig those tracks. But the lyrics just sounded weak. Neil has done better! Standout tracks: Driven, Resist, Limbo, Carve Away the Stone and Time and Motion.
  3. QUOTE What's the silliest piece of Rush merch you own? Snakes & Arrows
  4. QUOTE It would be interesting to put out the complete, full length Rush marathon set list, with all recordings- studio album, official live album, bootleg album, bootleg single recordings, and all known single or partial videos of live performances, in chronological order. Does such a list exist? It will once you make it! We were going to watch all of the DVDs as well (GuP live; Rush in Rio, etc) but it was just too daunting in the time we have. Also, and I think I've failed to mention this before - we are attempting to get through our marathon here before next weekend, one reason being next weekend will mark two weeks until the album comes out, and we are planning to go on a Rush "fast" until CA hits. And also we won't have time because we are celebrating our wedding anniversary (yes, this was meant to garner cheap congrats from our Rush brethren!) So we hope to get through the remaining single videos, as well as the remaining albums... the live albums will be most daunting, as we are about to get into the multi-disc live albums.
  5. Okay, we had a short (power) window of opportunity last night to watch a handful of videos, picking up in the chronology with Distant Early Warning, following with: Afterimage The Enemy Within Red Sector A (live, 1984) The Big Money Mystic Rhythms Time Stand Still Lock and Key ...And that's it for now...

  7. 10. Absolute perfection all the way through - a masterpiece. 9. Excellent, not one weak track and nearly perfect. 8. Great album, a must-own. 7. Very good album - well worth owning. 6. Not thier best, but still pretty darn good. 5. I don't listen that often, but it's a good album. 4. It's not bad, some weaker material. 3 - It's alright, I'll listen and enjoy it occasionally, but will often skip some tracks. 2 - There are a couple of good or great tracks, but generally fairly weak. 1 - Barely listenable, for completists only, only one or two even halfway-decent tracks. 0 - Just really bad, no redeeming qualities whatsoever. RUSH - 5 FLY BY NIGHT - 7.5 CARESS OF STEEL - 3.5 2112 - 7.5 A FAREWELL TO KINGS - 8.5 HEMISPHERES - 7 PERMANENT WAVES - 9 MOVING PICTURES - 9.5 SIGNALS - 8 GRACE UNDER PRESSURE - 6 POWER WINDOWS - 7.5 HOLD YOUR FIRE - 5.5 PRESTO - 7 ROLL THE BONES - 6 COUNTERPARTS - 8 TEST FOR ECHO - 6.5 VAPOR TRAILS - 7 FEEDBACK - 1.5 SNAKES AND ARROWS - 2.5 CLOCKWORK ANGELS (SO FAR) - 8
  8. Okay my wife and I took a break from the albums and decided to try and "catch up" on the band's videos. It can be very annoying to attempt a chronological viewing of their videos when one realizes that they are spread out over so many different DVDs. But it was fun and also a visual revelation to see them grow. And the clothes.... wow! So here are the videos we watched back-to-back before tiredness overtook us: Need Some Love (Rutsey live version) Best I Can (Rutsey live version) Working Man (Rutsey live version) Finding My Way(live Neil version 74) In the Mood (live Neil version 74) Anthem Fly by Night A Farewell to Kings Xanadu Closer to the Heart The Trees Circumstances La Villa Strangiato Tom Sawyer Limelight Vital Signs Red Barchetta (live, 81) Subdivisions We hope to continue with the videos at some point but we have a full weekend ahead of us. Next video to watch: Distant Early Warning Next album to hear: Test for Echo
  9. QUOTE this I do not like. the latest from Geddy regarding a VT remix: That was an idea but it's now been shifted down. Rather than remix the entire album we might now take a bunch of different songs from albums and get different people to remix them for fun, rather than just do Vapor Trails. It's an idea in flux. Deja vu.....?

  11. QUOTE Maybe, just maybe, they stripped out some of the guitar tracks that had been layered two years ago, and those songs now have a more direct feel...?? Hm, could be? Wonder how that would effect the power of the song? Its a barn burner for sure as is.
  12. QUOTE R.U.S.H. = Royal Ushers at Satan's House But if the album is 69 mins long and about pornography then their name would obviously stand for Risque Underwear Sniffing Hosers.
  13. QUOTE Funny, isn't it? The song was written two years ago, though. Maybe Caravan and BU2B are layered while everything else "new" is much simpler in its tracking. I kind of figured that, but it was just funny to me.

Popoff was like this with Contents under Pressure -- it was an incredibly clunky read, though I liked the book as a whole, but moreso for the insight provided by the band.
  15. QUOTE The More Geddy's the better! When the Zombie Apocolypse comes, they will protect us!!

A better review, could Yoda have written.
  17. VT Remix news from Ged in the new issue of Prog Magazine: QUOTE That was an idea but it's now been shifted down. Rather than remix the entire album we might now take a bunch of different songs from albums and get different people to remix them for fun, rather than just do Vapor Trails. It's an idea in flux. Are we gonna get the Dub Mix version of Earthshine now?? The dance club Darned Dragon remix of One Little Victory?? Will we be hearing the Temporary Madness Remix feat. Jay-Z version of "Nocturne"???
  18. I choose... Vapor Trail and Cut to the Chase. They might do Losing It cause its the anniversary of Signals.
  19. QUOTE I think I really like your wife! Presto is also one of my all time favorite albums, even though it is lacking in hard guitar sound. Thanks, I will pass that along! Actually, she is a member here but seeing as she is such a new sort of fan, she is hesitant to post much, although she has a few posts under her belt, her screen name is Kena2112. I need to get her to come hang out here more! And I can't tell you how awesome it is to have a wife who is so open to so many different types of music. Music is my life and she shares that passion! But enough mushy stuff -- tomorrow night, its back to the marathon, and we will be listening to Roll the Bones. We won't have the opportunity tonight.
  20. This is really cool seeing everyone go back and re-examine songs and albums that we are all so familiar with, or maybe haven't heard in awhile! QUOTE Hold Your Fire is the worst offender in the category of "Rush albums that can be played as background music". In other words, when they are on I am not compelled to listen to them. Even though these albums are beautiful lyrically and musically, and include Geddy's most agreeable vocals, HYF completely lacks the feisty adrenaline and punch of earlier albums. Though I think the Big Al apologies are more like Big Al sympathies? We were able to squeeze in Presto last night after all! And as most fans are prone to point out, my wife and I both felt ... if only this album had more oomph! Boy ... some good tunes here. Such an underrated album! Rupert Hine should've never been allowed near this band. Yea, he got Ged to focus more on melody and singability. But this is one wimpy album. I became a fan shortly after this album came out. I had this album and Chronicles. And when you listen to them you start to lose hope that this band would ever ROCK OUT again. It was disheartening. How much thinner can Al's guitar tone get? BUT -- having said that -- as I mentioned -- good good songs. Maybe in hindsight I have grown a little and become more accepting? My wife, on the other hand, loved this album the moment she heard it. She adores The Pass, Scars, Show Don't Tell, and Presto. We both find ourselves in the minority because we also really dig Superconductor. Fun song! Hand over Fist and Available Light are deep cut faves as well. The only songs that disagreed with us on a substantial level were Red Tide and Anagram, which is just a dumb song! Sorry! That is all, for now!
