    Damn

Update: Mum had a CT scan on Wednesday. She saw her specialist this morning. Not good news. The CT scan showed no improvement whatever from the chemo, in fact the lumps are worse. Mum has 2 options: To have stronger chemo every 2 weeks, or as she feels so well, to do nothing. She didn't ask how long. She didn't want to know. He has given her information sheets about the chemo, which she has passed to my sisters and I. She is going to see her specialist nurse on Tuesday and they are going to go through the paperwork together.
  2. Got my follow up appointment on 24th November. A Saturday. It's at the Ear, Nose and Throat dept., not Cardio, which leads us to think they're going to say, "It's not apnea, it's your nostrils".
  3. At least you will know more information afterwards than when you started- I hope it all goes well for you! :) Me TOO! Thank you! :) So I went to bed at usual time and we hooked me up to the monitor. There were two devices one tube with two mini tubes that go up your nose and a heart rate monitor that you put on your finger. It took me ages to settle -nervousness maybe? I did sleep but not as deeply as I normally do and I don't feel refreshed. And when my alarm went off it turned out that the finger monitor had become unplugged from the main unit - This might have happened when I got up. All we can do is return the unit and see what they say. I might have to go through another test. Yeah, but in the end, you'll feel WAY better! I do! I hope so! :)

  5. Tonight's the night for my sleep study.
  6. Btw, I had my sleep study date come through. I've got an appointment at the hospital on 8th October. They will give me a machine and instructions to take home, which will need to be returned to them the next day. Gilby has said he will drop the machine back for me - he works at the hospital. They will analyse the data and report back to the ENT Dr.
  7. Turbinates are folds that extend from the sides of the nasal sinus. They tend to sweal whenever you get congested and is one of the reasons you can't breath through your nose when you're sick or have allergies. So enlarged turbinates could be a temporary condition. But they could be a chronic problem as well. What does your doctor recommend? Nothing so far. I think he wants to see the outcome of the sleep study.
  8. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BABYCAT!!! :dweez: :sundog: :7up: :ebert: :yay: :cheerleader:
  9. Love the Tardis joke! (as long as your nose doesn't have to be blue on the outside!). I hope you don't have to wait too long for the follow up. Thanks Blueschica!!
  10. So I got a letter from the Ear, Nose and Throat dept updating my Dr on what he found regarding my snoring. He has referred me for sleep studies. Just waiting for the appointment. It also turns out that I DO have a deviated septum and something called "hypertrophic turbinates" - according to ye olde Google that means I have enlarged tubes in my nose, or as Gilby put it: Fat Nostrils. I called it Tardis Nose as it's bigger on the inside!
  11. That's great news that he's referring for treatment. Personally, I've always used the full face mask (nose and mouth) with my BiPap machine. Never could adapt to just the nose mask. If you do get the equipment, it will take some getting used to...probably a month for me. But you'll definately notice the difference once it starts working for you. Thanks Hemibeers!!!
  12. So I finally went for my own initial referral. The doctor was really nice. Great bedside manner. Was asked to describe my issues. We went through one of those sleepiness tests together and I scored 13, which is mild. The Dr put a camera up my nose as he thought I might have a deviated septum. He took pictures but never said what they showed. My height and weight were measured. He is going to refer me for a sleep study. Just got to wait for the appointment letter now.

Update on my mum: She has had two bouts of chemo so far. They are giving her anti sickness stuff beforehand and she takes steroids with anti sickness in 3 days afterwards. She says she feels tired and a bit wobbly, but otherwise she is ok.

Update: Mum had her pre-assessment. She has been told "all the ups and downs, ins and outs". She will start her chemo next Thursday. They will be putting a PICC line in on her first visit to "save being stabbed in the hand with the cannula every time" in her words.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind messages. They mean a lot to me. You guys are awesome. We visited her and my sister and her family yesterday. Mum is in remarkable spirits. Apart from the fact that she has lost a lot of weight - she said she knew something was more wrong than they thought - you wouldn't know she was poorly. I asked her if she was scared, she replied, "Not really". She pointed out that there's a chance she could live another few years, or only a few months, like my father did. He had cancer too, you see. She will receive chemo once a week for 3 weeks and then a week off for a check up scan. This will go on for 6 months. She has a pre-assessment on Tuesday and then will commence the following week. It is a plan of sorts. The rest we will have to see and take things a step at a time.

On Halloween last year my mum was diagnosed with cancer of the bile duct. She spent 3 weeks in hospital having what's known as a Whipple procedure, where they remove the bile duct and duodenum. Last week, after having a checkup scan, we were told she has "small lesions on her lung and liver", which she would need to have chemo. Today at the oncologist she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. This is one of those cancers that don't show themselves until it's in an advanced stage. There is no cure. She will recieve chemo, but it will be more of a palliative thing. They said that it's too early to say how long she has. This has come as a shock to all of us.
  21. Yay! I'm in a Treeduck poll!!! You know me too well, Ducky!
