  1. I can't recall exactly where I saw it, but there was an interview with Lerxst where he said they may not play all of Clockwork Angels on the first leg of the tour, but when they come back on the 2nd leg they are seriously considering doing the whole thing. We'll see .....

    Sectors

I have all 3 sectors sets. If you buy them now, you'll need to figure out if the Fly By Night CD and AFTK DVD are the updated version or not. They were dorked up in the first release, but free replacements were made available in what I thought was a timely fashion. My absolute favorite disc from the 3 sets was Exit Stage Left, which (for me) was a marked improvement over any other version I have heard, including the vinyl (although, admittedly, my stereo today is a bit more advanced than it was when I was playing vinyl). I agree with those who have said HYF was a nice improvement too. Grace Under Pressure is the same mix as the 1997 remasters, IIRC -- the masters were not in good shape, so not much could be done. I thought ATWAS was a pretty nice improvement too. Overall, I give the Sectors sets a "thumbs up". I would like to see a similar treatment for the later Rush releases -- with 5.1 mixes, por favor.
  3. Hmmm ... this thread generated more interest than I thought it would when I posted it. Honestly, the only reason I posted it was that I was at the book store, saw the magazine, and I thought, "I wonder where they placed Moving Pictures?" It did not occur to me that no Rush album would be in the top 500 ... top 100, sure I could buy that. Top 250 ... maybe. But top 500? And, to clarify, I was not saying that others on the list don't deserve recognition. They certainly do. But if you're talking about influence on musicians, etc ... how many musicians say they were influenced by listening to the Replacements? How many say they were influenced by Rush, tried to emulate their playing styles, etc? I'm not trying to convince anyone here -- that would be preaching to the choir. I just thought it was interesting that no Rush album would make the top 500.
  4. I saw the Rolling Stone magazine on the shelf at the bookstore, dedicated to the top 500 albums of all time as voted by the RS editorial staff along with Fats Domino, Flea, Britney Spears, et al. You'll find such luminaries as Eurythmics, Albert King, The Replacements, the Beastie Boys, and the New York Dolls. You'll even find Pavement coming in at #210, with their album "Crooked Rain", which yielded their only modest hit "Cut Your Hair". But you'll not find Moving Pictures. Or 2112. Or any other Rush album. Bias? I don't know ... I report, you decide. Here's a link: Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums
  5. QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ May 21 2012, 03:35 AM) Rush website tour dates: June-2 - Amsterdam, Holland - Ziggodome Guess I'll be going to Amsterdam intead of Rotterdam next year! Why not go to both of the dam shows?
  6. Time Machine tour at Wachovia Center (Philly), I got front row on the day of the show. I always check on the day of the show -- just arrive early enough to be the first in line when the box office opens. I got 3rd row for Dave Matthews doing the same thing. I've struck out every other time. But I always try. :-) There are always local VIPs and season ticket holders who elect not to use their tickets. Those tickets get released the day of the show so you can score good seats. Sometimes. I would never ever do it without having a back-up ticket already in hand. If you get lucky, go sell your original ticket for whatever you can get and enjoy. If not, then at least you know you will not get shut out or end up paying above face for a scalper ticket. Good luck!
  7. I got both ... it was worth it for me, but if the DVD had the whole show I would not have purchased the bluray. Apparently, the market research worked .....
  8. On StubHub there is a single PIT ticket for Atlanta in row AAA (extreme front row of the pit) for $1,819. It's not mine, and I don't know the seller, but if you want a great seat ...
  9. Dave Matthews Band has a great way of handling this issue: If you buy tickets through the fan site (the Warehouse), you are not allowed to sell the tickets above face. They actually track people down who are selling above face (and lots of Warehouse members bring it to their attention when they see Warehouse tickets for sale above face) ... they then cancel that person's membership. Warehouse allows you to get tickets for multiple shows if you want to, and they use a lottery system ... those who have been members for a long time get preference in the lottery. On 2-3 night stands in a city, at least one of those nights will be completely random, so new members could get front row. Also, they do upgrades on the day of the show. Warehouse pulls random seat numbers and upgrades their tickets -- they actually come to your seats and lead you to your new seats up front. Very cool. I'm not saying Rush needs to do all that ... but how about a true fan club that allows fans to buy seats and only pick up the tickets at Will Call with a direct escort from Will Call to inside the venue? No way you could scalp them then!
  10. There were no Platinum tickets for Atlanta ...
  11. I scored a ticket 10th row Alex's side. Still looking to upgrade, but I'm glad I grabbed that one when I did since it was the best one to show up for me all morning. My first attempt revealed only lawn tickets ...

    Tour dates

QUOTE (Apollo @ Mar 5 2012, 04:44 PM) I complain about Rush live setlists a lot but I have to give them credit for doing a full almost 3 hour show. Iron Maiden is going on tour this summer and have the nerve to charge Rush prices but I hear they only do a standard 2 hour show. I do like their newest album a lot more than Rush's though. Where did you hear Rush's new album?
  13. Got mine today -- they are all fixed now. No additional info needed. They just needed name, address, and e-mail addy. Hopefully no one will ask for "replacements" if they did not actually buy the sets though ....
  14. FWIW, I want to know as little as possible about the new recording before I listen to it. I'd rather have the opportunity to form my own impressions rather than have those impressions influenced by what someone else thinks after they listen to it.
  15. Samm - Donation sent, and posted the link on my Facebook page. You are up to $360 now ... keep up the great work! Oh, and ... Go Gators! (Just a little kidding from the UF grad ...)
  16. I received a response also -- replacement discs should be on the way.
  17. Very sorry to hear of Anderw MacNaughton's passing. Deepest condolences go out to his family and to all who knew him.
  18. BUTB live was much more powerful than the original studio version. Will be interesting to see how the new version sounds when released next year.
  19. QUOTE (PolarizeMe @ Dec 10 2011, 01:09 PM) Looks like I'm gonna have to break my piggy bank for these Sector box sets...probably gonna wait till my birthday in March to get these though since I want the flaws the band management mentioned to be fixed first. I'm not sure whether waiting will help in this regard. Obviously, the Sector sets are selling, but they are not flying off the shelf. And, the band said (on their website) they are going to wait for production to be completed before they work the fix. So, I suspect that whether you buy the sets now or next March, you will have to send something to somewhere addressed to someone to get the replacement discs. But I could be wrong about that ...
  20. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Dec 9 2011, 05:35 PM) ... The best thing about the Sector 2 box is Exit... Stage Left. It almost sounds like an entirely different recording. ... ^+1 Couldn't agree more. I was just listening to the newly-issued ESL in my car, and it even sounds great there! BTW, I listened to the AFTK 5.1 DVD today, and it sounded great too! I guess the problem with it was just for listening on DVD-Audio players??? I have a Bose Acousti-mass system hooked up to my TV, so I was able to select and play from my TV screen -- I didn't see any problems.
  21. These are remasters, which means the engineer is working from the original multi-track tapes. That means you will end up with a different mix, so there will be some sounds that were not there on the original album, but were there during the original recordings in the studio. As far as p/g is concerned, here's what Andy Vandette (chief engineer) had to say: "... Some of the albums weren't as thin toppy as I thought the were going to be. And for some I had a better source than the 1997 remasters. Some are brighter and clearer. Grace Under Pressure I tried for three days to make the tape transfer that I did sound as good as the existing CD. I figured that with the kind of care I put into the transfer - and having the original source - it would be a no-brainer; that this would be better than what's been out there. But it just wasn't the case: the tape didn't age well. It had lost lots of clarity. So I ended up using the 192 kHz transfer." So, for those who can tell no difference between p/g '97 remaster and this remaster, there is a reason for that -- they are the same. No changes.
  22. My bet would be that, for the Clockwork Angels tour in 2012, 100 years before the year 2112 ... they will play 2112 in its entirety (not the whole album, just 2112). It will be played at the beginning of the second set, just like MP was played at the beginning of the second set on TM.
  23. I think Rolling Stones' list took into account the impact of the guitarist on music in general and on other musicians. But from that perspective, Lifeson should be higher on the list as well. How many young guitarists have said to another young guitarist, "Well, sure, you can play Townshend's 'Squeeze Box' ... come talk to me when you have mastered Lifeson's 'La Villa Strangiato'."
