  1. Yes, it seems the losses Neil suffered changed everyone. When they came back after the long hiatus the entire band and crew had a different energy. The fans too. Can anyone that was on this forum before we knew the band would return tell us what it was like around here during that time?
  2. I'm not a big fan of the Obamacare breast exam procedure.
  3. I remodeled my home from ceiling to floor. You learn a lot doing that and also when to get help. I hired out the molding because I wanted it done nicer than I could and the tub plumbing. I can take a toilet out and replace it or a sink, but I hate to plumb. The hardest part was the kitchen cabinets. They had 30 years of oil based stain and 30 years of grime. It took me forever to strip them down to the bare wood which was a beautiful blonde pine. With a light shade of stain and clear coat they came out great.
  4. Your last name is Birdsong? That's really cool! (You don't happen to be an ornithologist, do you? ;) ) Naw, but it would be funny or weird or something if I was.
  5. If you had asked me when I thought we would see a new Rush album I probably would have said 2016. I imagine if Trunk said it he was speculating. Y'all relax, it will be a while yet.
  6. The electronic phase has it good moments, but it seems to be more about Thom Yorke's vision especially when you hear his solo stuff. The first three albums and tours were legendary for reason. They were really incredible and they are still a great live band, but I really wish they would plug the guitars back in.
  7. I found myself wondering if there was another solution, but there really wasn't. It is truly a different world now and the survivors will have to adapt to it or die.
  8. Listening to only one genre or sub genre of music is a little weird. I really can't see a reason to get snobbish about prog. A lot of it is noodling for the sake of creating a longer song and even the best of it is rarely heard by modern radio listeners. My guess is that you can always find people who are snobbish about "their" thing. Sometimes it feels cool to be in on something only a few people know about at least until they write a pop hit and the bastards sell out.
  9. TLIYE, I could have said it better. Neil Peart's blog is about his life outside of Rush and yes he can be a jerk. Some of his snarkiness and holier than thou opinions rub me the wrong way too, but it comes with the territory. The part about his daughter was some of his best stuff in a while. I think a lot of people (me included) read the blog hoping for any mention of Rush and we only get it on rare occasions. If he does mention Rush someone usually shouts it pretty loud on this forum so for a lot of folks it might be better to wait for those moments.
  10. I use Photobucket Yeah, Photobucket.com will get you there.
  11. Got a little Irish on my mother's side. Isolating those molecules an' gittin' 'em drunk.
  12. My daughter is going to Ft. Campbell for the next three years and man-o-man it's only an hour away.
  13. Your life is a gift from God and He knows that I tried to throw away the one He gave me. When you hit rock bottom there is no where to go except up... Give it a try. The reason you go THROUGH stuff is so that you can emerge on the other side.
  14. Found this place while looking for live shows some time ago. Logged in with standard name. Initials + last name makes me sounds like a dokter. The rest be history.
  15. After all this time you express this opinion? I get it that you don't like it, but would you stand before his four and a half year old daughter and tell her that her father's writings don't suit yer selfish ass?
  16. Musicians ain't no different than the rest of us. "When we are young" we know it all. Age humbles nearly every know-it-all.
  17. Listening constantly since the 70s makes the voice change seem like the aging of fine wine. I like the shriek and I like the present day Barry White Geddy. Keep singin' budro.
  18. This was one of his better updates for sure and quite touching.
  19. That blows the Volkswagen commercial away.
  20. I didn't go in with high expectations, but the kid nailed it. Heavy Metal front man in the making.
  21. I Think I'm Going Bald, Lakeside Park and Rivendell suck.
  22. I just listened to the Steven Wilson instrumental mixes including the full length America. Without the vocals you hear everything differently. Really amazing.
