  1. Just like many others on here, this question is a total quandary. I don't know who to vote for. I've been a Yes fu an much longer and seen them live more (3 vs 1). My first instict would be to go with Floyd, but I'd have to do an album by album comparison Floyd (in order of favorites) Animals Meddle Wish You Were Here Dark Side Of The Moon a big drop-off for me at this point to others Yes Relayer Close To The Edge Fragile Yes Album Tales FTO not so big a drop-off at this point to others I'll take Animals over Relayer, but give the nod to CTTE and Fragile. Dark Side over Yes album. From there, Yes takes over. Therefore, Yes gets my vote.
  2. QUOTE (Lamneth08 @ Aug 27 2008, 01:32 PM) Im going to be odd man out and say i enjoy that aspect of the piece. It adds to the creepiness of the whole thing. Me too
  3. 1st song: Dont' remember. Probably was Bastille Day. The album was definately All The World's A Stage. I recall 2112 blowing me away and was kinda spooked by the eerieness of By-Tor which I thought was neat. When: 1985 Age: 13 What: On a Boy Scout camping trip in a tent late one night using my tent-mates walkman.
  4. QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 4 2008, 12:39 PM) QUOTE (MacBob @ Apr 3 2008, 10:22 PM) QUOTE (GeminiRising79 @ Apr 2 2008, 06:28 PM) Since bisexuality was in vogue back when Rush was popular in the 70's, does anyone think that there were/was a sexual relationship between any of the boys? Alex sure looked like a fairy princess at some points along the way, as well as Geddy. For the record, I am not gay nor do I have any homoerotic fantasies. Please don't flame for this is a legitimate question. Thanks. Ehh, what 70s was this? The 1870s? Outside of Bowie and the androgyny scene surrounding early glam bands I would hardly call it a trend. It doesn't really matter one way or the other, but having been there I would hardly call it some kind of fad that people jumped on. Sadly in most of North America any hint of being anything but straight would buy you a free ass kicking (at the minimum). I'm going to have to agree, this might be the worst thread ever, but I'll still contribute because I am part of the problem on occasion. Without even thinking about it I can name two artists who had their careers ended because the sexuality was questioned, Peter Frampton (for appearing with the BeeGees in the Sgt. Pepper movie) and Billy Squire (for frolicking in pink silk sheets in his Rock Me Tonight video). Rod Stewart's career took a nose dive after the legendary "stomach pumping" rumor and only made a come back as a crooner appealing to soccer moms and grandparents. Sadly I know a couple people who sold all their Queen and Judas Priest stuff when their respective front men came out as gay. There wasn't anywhere near the public tolerance for gay or bi-sexual behavior in the 70s that there is now. It is far from a perfect world, but there is a lot more tolerance, or at least a lot less overt hatred, than there was back in the 70s. This doesn't make it right, but it is the way it was. Come to think of it, this question would stand up far better if we were talking about 80s pop with Boy George, that dude from Dead or Alive, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the now out Michael Stipe, etc... There still wasn't a ton of tolerance, but androgyny and 80s pop go together like Bowie and Jagger... The greater point to focus on, as a couple others in this thread have mentioned, is that it is an irrelevant question. I'm a fan of the music and don't much care what artist do in their personal lives. Deliver me good albums and solid live performances and I will pay you, contract fulfilled. Interesting stuff. Elton was pretty flamboyant back in the 70's and destroyed everyone in terms of sales and popularity. There was no doubt he was a flamer. Whether my question is relevant or not in the vast scheme of things, I couldn't care less. This thread reflects my personal question of interest. There are some people who will want to know which fingers/which hand/at what angle does geddy scratch his nutsack with, but that is their personal interest and I think its perfectly fine if someone wants to know. Screw what the consensus thinks. Screw what the consensus thinks? Other than the fact that repeated comments such as you are describing can be offensive and deemed as sexual harassment. It's very difficult to offend me, but others might be.
  5. 1st choice - Zeppelin with Bonham 2nd choice - Floyd (Wright, Mason, Waters, Gilmour) 3rd choice - '07 reunion Zeppelin 4th choice - Floyd with all of those extra 'members' on stage. Any of those options would be awesome to me.
  6. This post is in honor of my 420th post. I figured this would be the appropriate thread to post this in.

The reference to "our brand new dvd" is why I ask. I love Govt Mule btw. Just a guess.......but it looks like a copy and paste from the Mule's website? YUP. I cut and paste from their website. Warren has more musical ability in his little pinky than I do in my whole body. I do have a picture of me with Matt and Warren (so I could trick people into thinking I was in the band).

  10. I'm with you. Analog Kid is probably my favorite post MP song. As others mentioned, it has been played live recently (last few tours at least). It would definately be in my fantasy set list (and would also be the newest releast of my fantasy setlist other than wanting to hear a few of the S&A tunes live)
  11. I am a big Allman Bros fan. I've had an issue with them being labelled as southern rock. The best stuff they did was of course with Duane. At that time they were a blues band (listen to the Fillmore album). After Duane passed away, Dickey took a bigger roll and the band became more country and twangy and thus got the Southern rock label. I know I'm bitchin' so I'll shut up and just realize that they kick ass and leave it at that.

Especially during a summer BBQ All the bands mentioned here. I especially love the.. Allman Brothers Band Jessica, Melissa, Midnight Rider. Nice change of pace I always get into a bigger So. Rock mood as summer comes..Allman Brothers/Warren Haynes/CCR Good to bring up Warren Haynes. Such a great guy, workhorse, and incredible musician. That dude must play 250 shows a year. I thought I might start a religion focused around Warren.

QUOTE (liquidcrystalcompass @ Jun 17 2006, 05:34 PM) (allen collins - ronnie vanzant) Well i used to wake the morning before the rooster crowed Searching for soda bottles to get myself some dough Brought 'em down to the corner, down to the country store Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named curtis loew Old curt was a black man with white curly hair When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care He used to own an old dobro, used to play it across his knee I'd give old curt my money, he'd play all day for me (chorus) Play me a song curtis loew, curtis loew I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro People said he was useless, them people are the fools 'cause curtis loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues He looked to be sixty, and maybe i was ten Mama used to whip me but i'd go see him again I'd clap my hands, stomp my feets, try to stay in time He'd play me a song or two Then take another drink of wine. Chorus Yes sir On the day old curtis died, nobody came to pray Ol' preacher said some words, and they chunked him in the clay But he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose Play me a song curtis loew, hey curtis loew I wish that you was here so everyone would know People said he was useless, them people all are fools 'cause curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good one. My favorite Skynyrd song.

Excellent, excellent choice! I almost requested it My fav Dylan tune of all time..... too bad goob doesn't have it How 'bout a Grateful Dead version of Desolation Row? When did they perform this song? I have a lot of GD on cassette and a goodly few on cd, but I think the live ones I have on cd are all from the 70's, and I don't recall them doing this song on any of them... They did it in the late 80's, early 90's I believe..including that tour they did with Bob Dylan I MAY have a surviving cassette tape of a show that late where they COULD have done that song, but the chances are slim. I generally lost interest in live Dead material around 1979-1980 or so when their music started to get watered down with some lesser quality material. I think 1967-1978 or so were their best years, and it started to fade a bit from there on. IMHO, of course. My favorite years were 69-78 (with emphasis on '69, '73, '77) 2/3 of my show collection are from that span. Too bad I was born to late and only got to see the Vince era.

  18. QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Apr 9 2007, 09:50 AM) QUOTE (apetersvt @ Apr 9 2007, 10:42 AM) Not crazy about the cover of The Yes Album. With all of those wonderful Roger Dean covers, I wish The Yes Album had gotten one too. I don't know if you're aware of this but Roger Dean hadn't met Yes when "The Yes Album" came along. On one of my Yes documentaries, Chris Squire said that Roger Dean was looking to get a job as an artist when he went to Atlantic Records. And someone there told him that "a band called Yes is making an album right now". As far as bad album covers go "Tormato" is not very good either. Not even the artist at Hipgnosis who did it thinks so which is why a tomato was thrown at it. I figured that Dean wasn't in the picture when The Yes Album came out.
  19. Also can't forget the Blind Faith album. It's too eerie for me to look at. On my CD, I have it reversed so I don't have to look at the pseudo-child-pornographic cover.
  20. Not crazy about the cover of The Yes Album. With all of those wonderful Roger Dean covers, I wish The Yes Album had gotten one too.
  21. QUOTE (Finbar @ Apr 4 2007, 11:05 PM) I saw a Caress of Steel shirt in a store window and it was beautiful. I walked inside and checked the Rush shirts and it wasn't among them. I asked the guy at the counter to bring it in from the front, and he refused. To me, the Caress Of Steel shirt is the Holy Grail of all t-shirts. I had been searching for years on the 'net to try to find one. Then, finally the Rush Backstage Club offered them. I was one happy camper. I'm not sure which my favorite shirt that I actually got a show is. I do like my red Hold Your Fire (which doesn't fit anymore). I didn't get a shirt the last couple of tours.
  22. Too hard (literally) I've been a fan/wanna-be-stalker of Alicia Silvertone Tiffany Amber-Thiessen Jenny McCarthy
  23. QUOTE (Maddy @ Feb 23 2007, 02:35 PM) QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Feb 23 2007, 01:52 PM) QUOTE (fledgehog @ Feb 23 2007, 11:22 AM) Everyone rags on Zeppelin for being overrated -- but a good portion of their work (specifically almost everything post-Houses of hte Holy) is actually quite underrrated. I figured there ought to be a thread to discuss this side of them. Anyone who wants to contribute by saying "LOLZ strwy 2 hvn is teh OEWN!" might as well leave now, kthxbi. My favorite zeppelin album is definately Presence. Anyone else with me here? Presence is not my favorite, but LZ is not overrated in my book. They were a fantastic band! My favs are In Through Out Door, HotH, and the MUCH underrated LZIII. I and IV are legendary. Oh f-ck, theyre all GREAT! Yes, yes and YES... It took me a few listens to get into Presence, but then I loved it - although my favorite track is "Tea For One." Jimmy playing the blues? I even like In Through The Out Door. "Hot Dog" is just about one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. And "I'm Gonna Crawl" is a dark, overlooked gem. I also love Tea For One. I think that is the most underrated LZ song. Presence is not my favorite album, though. I would have to go for a toss-up between I and III. II, IV, HOH, PG, and Presence are all close 2nds (or 3rds). I never got into In Through the Out Door.
  24. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jan 23 2007, 06:42 AM) Led Zeppelin. The greatest rock band of all time. So far ahead of everybody else. They took the blues, mangled it, and devised the blueprint for everything we've heard since. They still have an almost mythical aura about them. I still want to be Jimmy Page. I'm 36 for f**k's sake! I couldn't have stated it any better myself (except that I am 34 rather than 36)
