  1. Other than local artists, I did a mini summer Dead tour with Dead and Company. Hit the Bristow (Washington DC), Philly, and Hershey shows. Was in Nashville for work when Phish was in town. It was sold out and the cheapest resale seat was over 300 bucks so I hung out in the park adjacent to the venue and listened. Just missed the Black Crowes at the same venue who were there the pervious week. For the Dead and Company shows, you had to show proof of COVID vaccination (which I had) or a negative test within 48 hours of the show. I was very impressed with how efficient the COVID check process worked at all 3 shows and that there were no massive backups causing fans to miss the openers. Did feel great to feel somewhat of a sense of normalcy returning. Back in Nashville for work this week. Bonaroo was supposed to be happening this week (about an hour away) but got cancelled due to rain/flooding/mud from the hurricane as opposed to COVID concerns. Wasn't planning on going anyways. Another fun story: 3 of the hippies that I met at the Phish Nashville show and hung out with in the park, I ran into at the Hershey Dead show.
  2. Pretty much the first tune that comes to my mind when I hear the phrase 'power ballad'.
  3. My favorite is the COS/2112/FTK/Hem run. Add in PeW and MP as well but I like them a tiny (very tiny) bit less than the COS-Hem run.
  4. Certainly in agreement with you that it would be so amazing if we got the whole thing as video. I know there was discussions on this previously. Even if the footage is there, the tapes may be unusable from age/deterioration by now. I haven't bought any of the 40th anniversary re-releases, but I would certainly get this one if we did get the whole ESL video Oh dear goodness is that what the whole setlist from an ESL show looked like? It's majestic. That is the Moving Pictures tour setlist which is what we would get if the Montreal Forum footage to which the ESL video came from. Keep in mind the ESL album was a mix of recordings from PeW tour (notice Jacob's Ladder is not on the MP setlist) and the MP tour.

  6. While not in the category of 'power' ballads, I wanted to give a shout out to Jerry's ballads for the Grateful Dead. My favorite ballads for sure. Black Peter, High Time, Standing On The Moon, Comes A Time, China Doll, Morning Dew, Stella Blue, So Many Roads
  7. I really enjoyed the Doobie Brothers episodes on What's Happening. Which Doobie you be?? Gotta vote for them
  8. I took a Literature Of Rock and Roll course at Virginia Tech in 1994 (hence the VT in my username). Rush wasn't part of the course but my finals paper was about Neil's lyrics. Things are a little hazy but I think I got an 'A' in the course.
  9. Looking forward to checking these out (at work now so I will wait until tonight) https://alexlifeson.com/playlist/lerxst-demo-archives-pt-1/ Kroove Banjo Bob Serbs
  10. Wore the same shirt yesterday.
  11. Normally, one song jumps out as a clear favorite. Had to think about this one for a bit. Going with Floyd. I think it is an overrated song (not much of a Wall fan), but still a good song.
  12. My top 10 (for the most part in order) Rush Grateful Dead Allman Brothers Band Led Zeppelin Gov't Mule Pink Floyd Yes The Black Crowes Jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton (specifically the Cream/Blind Faith/Derek and The Dominos era)
  13. I too was scrolling through this thread and saw Goobs post and was reminiscing (thinking about several of our Grateful Dead conversations). Still wondering when he will make that 30,000th post.
  14. This is such a good series! :ebert: I've ready pretty much all of the Bosch novels. Would love to watch these but I don't have Prime. Then again I may be disappointed with the cliche 'the book is better than the movie'.
  15. I'm a big ABB fan. Love the Duane era. Don't like the post Duane/pre Warren era. They are so good live. Was lucky enough to see them about 30 times including the final show at the Beacon Theater. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks together is magic for me (and Oteil is an outstanding bass player) So, easy decision for me..
  16. I’ve liked this post to ask you why? And if you ever plan on changing that? none of what i have heard ever grabbed me and never convinced me to move forward. i pulled up Eat a peach and saw a 33 minute jam andd went fukk no not in the mood right now, lol Mick If the 33 minutes isn't long enough, there is a 44 minute version on the 'Live At Ludlow Garage' album. Back in the day, I was at a bar with a jukebox (digital, so it had pretty much everything you could think of). I figured that I could get my quarter's worth on that one.
  17. Jimi vs Jimmy might be a close call but Hendrix wins this in a blowout. Especially since singers don't do much for me. I've always had a thing for guitars.
  18. New Jersey is down with weed, awesome! Murphy signed it. It's legal, I'm ready to celebrate. CT weed is legal. Weed has been legal for me since February, still haven't enjoyed any weed yet. Congrats to the residence of CT. It becomes legal down here in VA on July 1st. Will be allowed to have 4 plants. I'm all setup and ready to get my green thumb.
  19. What platform is that streaming on??
  20. Agree that HYF and Presto are probably Geddy's best vocal performances. But I think that singing is somewhat of an unnecessary evil. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that Geddy became the singer because no one else wanted to do it and they didn't want to have just a singer in the band. I think their main focus is the tunes and song structures with vocals being an afterthought. So while the singing was top notch for Rush standards, the music itself needed 'more balls' and thus considered a low point.
  21. These two albums are the bottom two on my Rush album rankings so ... way to go Geddy!!Glad to see we have at least one thing in common! Ditto
  22. If one includes Archives, it would be the 7th album.
