The late 70's as an 8 or 9 year old, listening to RUSH during those years and knowing it appealed to me already!
  1. Witch Hunt: Quick to judge. Quick to anger. Slow to understand. Ignorance and prejudice, and fear walk hand in haaaaaaaannnnnnnd. Then, into Geddy's bass outro with the signature synth riff beneath it. Chills...... The opening of TSOR on Permanent Waves, all these years later when you understand where the band was in their development. Yes, every note of ATWAS, of course. The pure, raw, youthful energy that comes through in the recording. Freewill (studio): Each of us, a CELL of awareness. (sung with a hint of that Geddy Lee wail from the past) Freewill (live on Time Macine Tour): Geddy still going for it and nailing the note on the same line.
  2. Those pics are excellent, Catch The Mystery!! Particularly, those first two shots. Geddy and Alex just rocking! Then, the nice silhouette shot! Thanks for posting!
  3. On this current CA tour, the big opening keyboard notes on The Big Money got me. The Clockwork Angels intro. Actually, the entire song can bring about chills at any time. "Clockwork Angels bathed in liiiiight." Witch Hunt - entire song Vital Signs - "Everybody got to deviate from the norm......." In the End - studio and All the World's a Stage versions
  4. Excellent shots! Standing "O" for moogul's photography.
  5. Xanadu will full 5 minute intro and all of Neil's percussion.
  6. QUOTE (willowroolz @ Sep 19 2012, 01:45 PM) Just got back to the UK from our trip across The Pond for the Chicago gig. I am not at all biased when it comes to Rush ( ) but, wow, what a show. Glad you made it home safely. Have to agree, there were several goosebump moments during the show and the end of Headlong Flight was one of them for me as well!!
  7. QUOTE (spineguru @ Sep 18 2012, 08:24 PM) I was wondering if people agreed with something i have been thinking with all the complaining about the synth era stuff being played.... In my experience, the live versions of these songs are heavier than the album version. I, like many people here, like the 70s era best, but I have all their albums and like pretty much everything. But, I really LOVE almost everything live. I think that may be because it sounds heavier in concert, and there is less difference between the old and the new in the live setting. Thoughts? I have not seen this tour yet. I will see then in San Antonio all the way near the end (11/30), but forget whether you like or dislike the set list, how does it sound? Totally agree with you on this. The 80s synth era is not my favorite either. I don't dislike it....it's just not my favorite. But, I knew going in to the show that the synth stuff they performed would have that "live edge" to it. For example, on the Time Machine Tour, "Marathon" was a standout song in the set....very powerful. Well, the 80s material on this tour has that same bit of "balls" added to it. The songs sound great IMO.
  8. QUOTE (Dscrapre @ Sep 17 2012, 08:59 PM) QUOTE (nettiesaur @ Sep 17 2012, 05:51 PM) Great show, and I loved all of the CA stuff. The guy next to me hadn't heard it, and was blown away. In a way, I envy him. To think that your first experience with this great album was live. I had never heard Vital Signs or Marathon until TM last year. Now whenever I listen to those songs, I'm transported back to that moment in time. Cool cool stuff. Well said right here. ^ I think it's great that there are people like yourself discovering older stuff 25 - 30 years after it was written!
  9. QUOTE (The Mighty Dudad @ Sep 17 2012, 09:24 AM) I've mentioned this a few times in other threads, but in looking back at Saturday night, I just can't get out of my head how absolutely stunningly monstrously amazing Headlong Flight was in concert. The band and strings played it with such tremendous ferocity, and when the band rejoined after Neil's brief solo...just wow. The crowd completely ate it up and rewarded the performance with what I think was the biggest response of the night. Am I alone here?? You are not alone Dudad. They gave a powerful performance of Headlong Flight without missing a beat! That song live really comes off like it's a 35 year old classic already. Loved it!!
  10. There was a fun moment with Alex during the show. I forget which song it was. But Neil had thrown a drumstick in the air and missed the catch. It bounced off one of the cymbals (you could hear it) and landed at center stage. A few moments later, Alex, while jamming, picked up the stick and started playing the guitar with the drumstick. (nod to Jimmy Page or the string ensemble?) He used the stick for few seconds and then tossed it in to the crowd. They were clearly having a lot of fun. Geddy was hopping all over the stage. Neil had a few smiles during the show. The string section was laughing and having fun all night. Great atmosphere.....
  11. GREAT show tonight!! Highlights: The Analog Kid, Carnies, Headlong Flight, 2112. Also, Geddy's voice was dead on and Neil's drums sounded great! The snare just had that tone. They never disappoint.
  12. On the extended "agaaaaaaaiiiiiiiin" in Headlong Flight, it did sound like the studio track was backing Geddy. You can also hear that he is still singing it live. So, I would not say it was "lip-synched." Not a big deal IMHO.
  13. During the outro of Xanadu on ESL, you can hear and see Geddy playing the 6 string. There are a couple of shots where he's going back and forth between the 6 string guitar parts and the keyboards. You can see him using the right hand to play the keys, while holding the left hand on the neck of the 6 string.
