  1. Geddy also needs to not fake the "lean not upon your own understanding" lines during Clockwork Angels.

At least from the videos I saw from Manchester and Bristow it looked to me like he was clearly faking it.

There are differences between Studio Geddy and Live Geddy. And its obvious in CwA when its played live.

  2. Seems to me like they did take 45 minutes out of the setlist to play some older, rarely heard material.

ITS CALLED THE FIRST SET OF THIS SHOW!! I'm actually amazed at the amount of people okay with this set. I thought I'd hear alot more complaining since its the 80s "keyboard' material.

They can't play the 70s material anymore. They probably don't want to play it either.

    Get. Over. It.

    It is indeed Gump!

The riser is going to be behind Neils kit to allow for access on and off the stage.

Do you not see that the riser is clearly on the side of the stage?

And its interesting to see floor lights that far off the side of the stage. Haven't seen that from Rush. Usually its just all on the stage itself

And do my eyes deceive me...or do I see lighting truss right behind Gumps head? Look closely. I can clearly see some silver colored truss, and possibly a Par head light.

  4. Something tells me we'll get pyro at a few places:

    - IF they play Caravan, same last Time Machine

    - During 'Clockwork Angels', something tells me we'll get tracer rockets when Geddy goes "Stars aglow like scattered sparks, span the sky in clockwork arcs". Rockets in sync with "Sparks" and "Arcs".

    - And then the usual during Far Cry, and possibly some flames here and there.

I'm hoping Howard decides to bring lasers back on this tour. Time Machine just was weird without seeing lasers once the whole show.

  5. Something tells me...

    2014 = R40 = (possible) Farewell Tour.

I hope not. But at this point, its a good way to go out.

40 years together is a feat very few bands can say they accomplished. And as far as bands having the same exact band members all 40 years, well....has that EVER been done?

(And I know about Rutsey...it doesn't count. Neil, Geddy, Alex all 40 years)

  6. I definitely think they will film a show. Probably Europe in 2013.

But god I hope they don't have the guys that did Time Machine do it. Time Machine was just not filmed well.

Trust me, I'm in film and TV, and its just so poorly shot from a live music standpoint.

Too much crowd, too many freaky angles, the flying blimp was a mistake, and I could go on and on.

Now S&A live. That was flawless. Whoever directed that should do the CA DVD.

    ...and in other "news"

Alex Lifeson seen with prototype Les Paul Axcess Double Neck in CA rehearsals.

He was so impressed with Geddy playing the Nashville tuned guitar in the studio that he wanted to make sure he had that sound available at any time on the bottom six.

    http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d153/avplanners/bigal.jpg

If this is truly from rehearsals, I PRAY hes using that guitar to play a FULL Xanadu this tour!

This ones obvious for many reasons:

    A. The top neck isnt 12 string

    B. The tone pots aren't in the correct place if it was a double neck

    C. This guitar doesn't exist. Although it would be sick

    D. That's Alex's rig from the 07/08 tours. Something tells me he'll be sticking with something like what he had on TMT. If its not the same exact setup, it will be a modification of it.

Plus, he'd never wear a double neck that low.

Oh yea. I don't think anyone would wear a double neck that low. Too damn heavy. No matter what age you are.

Geesh if the logic is that Caravan and BU2B were "thoroughly covered", what about all of MP?

Moving Pictures is a timeless classic, with at least FOUR tried and true Rush classics that EVERYONE in the crowd will know.

Clockwork Angels is not, and while Caravan and BU2B are both damn good songs, if they want to play everything else from the album, I could see them taking the "Well, we already played those two songs for two years, so let's drop 'em" line of thinking.

    It's that simple.

This is from Rush is a Band:

    QUOTE
Some tour setlist rumors are also finally starting to trickle in. The latest bit of news I've heard is that the band plans on playing all of the Clockwork Angels album minus Caravan and BU2B, both of which were thoroughly covered back on the Time Machine tour. I've also heard the unsurprising news that 5 songs from Moving Pictures will be included in the setlist.

I hope not. I hope they don't drop two of the best songs on the album. If they really need to drop something, drop a couple of songs from MP. 5 songs? Come on, They covered that pretty well oN TTMT as well. Limelight, Tom Sawyer and YYZ would have sufficed. Well, Unless the other two are Red Barchetta and The Camera Eye? Probably not! Probably Red Barchetta and Witch Hunt!

    unsure.gif

Regardless, I'm not to psyched about this little piece of Information.

I'd actually be okay with all of CA minus the original 2010 tracks. Heard them enough. To open the second half of the show with the CA title track and proceed from there would be pretty epic.

And my guesses on the MP tracks

    Tom Sawyer

    Limelight

    YYZ

    The Camera Eye

    Red Barchetta

Can't play TCE one tour and then put it away. I think they had too much fun playing it on the TMT.

I hope they don't play Red Barchetta again. I'm just tired of it. But the other four I'm content with and, I would expect nothing less.

  11. Between the Wheels with strings anyone? Maybe over top of the synth part?

They seemed to like the song. Played it 04, 07 and 08. Maybe they'll do it.

I'm also feeling Red Sector A also has a good possibility of going back in this set, strings or not. Haven't played it since 04. Seems like a song of the 3 liked playing.

Geddy's voice may have a problem on RSA though. It has been 8 years or so

  12. One of my favorites as well.

Don't know if this has been discussed yet or not, but its clearly about Neils motorcycle ride back in the 90s after his wife and daughter died.

Its obvious. The verses and bridges point to it. "A man could lose himself in a country like this". All about going where ever you want to go, because theres no place to go. Exactly what Neil was experiencing back then.

My favorite line is definitely "The gleam in the distance could be heavens gate....a long awaited treasure at the end of my cruel fate."

    It's just so 2.gif

  13. Well, considering they pretty much had the same lighting rig for 2002, 2004, and 2007/08, I was thrilled they finally changed in 2010. And it was an awesome switch.

To finally have some moving parts to the rig was just a brilliant move on Howard's part. Seems like he's taking ideas from many other bands that have done it in recent years.

Now I too feel that CwA will be very heavily lighted, and hopefully has a new rig.

But please, put the lasers back in this year. No lasers on TM was just weird. Even if they don't do Dreamline (which I think they should, since there are string parts in the song), still put lasers back in.

  14. CwA Tour is going to be 2 years, we already know that.

I can see the 2013 leg ending in July 2013, August at the latest. Based on the way the European dates have fallen so far. They'll do what they did with the TM Tour. US in April/May. Europe in late May/June, US in July/early August.

That puts them at August 2013. Now lets be honest, thats ALOT of touring in under a year. September 2012-Aug. 2013. Probably close to 80 shows in 11 months.

I just can't see them being ready to saddle back up and go out on R40 in 2014.

Give them a year off, and lets see what they want to do in late 2014 or so.

  15. On Geddy's side, in a two level riser. They'll need to be close to the side of the stage so they can sneak off when they're not needed on songs.

None of this behind the band, or in front of the band stuff. They're not taking a full orchestra like Sting did. Just 6-8 people.

Look up live videos of the band 'Trans-Siberian Orchestra'. You'll see what I mean.

And actually, the more I read about this show and production, it sounds like they're taking more from TSO. Guess Howard likes what he sees when he see their shows every year, and wants to borrow from their ideas.

  16. QUOTE (dakota2112 @ Jul 2 2012, 01:00 PM)
Alex has misinformed us more than that in the past. I remember a guitar mag article where he said he was bringing the doubleneck SG onstage for multiple songs, and that his tech would be busy re-tuning it inbetween. This implied he would use the doubleneck for 'Hope', and then again for something else (Xanadu?). It never happened, as far as I can recall.

That was his original idea for songs like Main Monkey Business and EntreNous before the 2007 Tour. But he ultimately ended up deciding that the 12 string acoustics set up on stands was the better option. Less re-tuning, less of a mess to deal with for his tech.

Alex, I get the feeling, says stuff in the moment, and its true. But then they end up making changes, and he doesn't actually get the time to say they made the changes in interviews.

I don't think Lerxst would lie or make stuff up. He just speaks way far in advance of the start of a tour.
