  1. I'm not the biggest fan of Dog Years, but I think Virtuality is far worse.
  2. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jan 17 2006, 04:13 PM) QUOTE (Moonraker @ Jan 17 2006, 02:54 PM) As for not being able to share the music you like with a vast amount of people, everyone has that. There are a great number of new bands I am into that I cant talk to about 99% of people over the age of 30 about, because they simply wont give them a chance either. Meh, life goes on, so I find people who do want to talk about them and get my fix of those bands that way. Not every experience has to be shared with every single person. that's true moony, but you do go to tons of shows, so you are able to enjoy music you dig with people all the time - for me it's a very rare and thefore precious experience when it happens... Thats only because I'm still young. Give me another 10, 20 years and it wont be so easy to do that anymore. Nor will many of the bands that I'm enjoying right now still be around.
  3. I dont know if I can call it a phase, but I have recently discovered a few incredible Zappa albums. Joe's Garage and Hot Rats have been getting some heavy rotation from me in the last couple of weeks. As for not being able to share the music you like with a vast amount of people, everyone has that. Edit: oh, and so my post is on topic.... Pink Floyd = incredible

  9. David Gilmour announced yesterday that he would be doing a small North American tour in April. 2 nights each in 5 cities, including New York City, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. These will be his first shows in North America since the Division Bell tour with Pink Floyd 11 years ago. You can bet I will not be missing this show, even if the tickets are $125 each.
  10. Your parents bought you a car? My parents bought me a plane ticket.......
  11. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Dec 12 2005, 09:18 PM) QUOTE (Moonraker @ Dec 12 2005, 11:11 PM) White Stripes actually bowed out of the show I went to see last Thursday early. Apparently Meg was drunk cuz it was her birthday that day and was screwing up her parts. Um...as opposed to when she's sober? Lol, I couldnt tell the difference either.

So after about 20 mins into the set, he did a 10 minute solo type of thing, followed by a 10 minute intermission, and 10 more minutes of playing, then ended the show right there. They were supposed to be on for a full hour, if not longer. Friends dont let friends drink and drum

Some poor soul makes a thread dedicated to a very controversial band 2. Said poor soul is embraced by some, crucified by others 3. Said some get into petty fights usually involving posts like "Dood I never bashed you, just the band..." and "LOL DORK" 4. It gets old after the second of four or five threads You mean you arent eagerly anticipated this to happen again in another couple months? Does it sound like I am? I know, I cant wait either I'm gonna go with an early March for the next one.

  16. Everyone be friendly or I will start deleting bands. Not threads about bands, I will delete the actual band. I recently got a promotion in here and I have the power.
  17. merge threads? you mean you dont like having 5 dedicated DT threads? lol
  18. Hey now. I never give the names of TRF members when I go beating up DT fans.
  19. QUOTE (Dreamline @ Dec 10 2005, 12:56 AM) QUOTE (D-13 @ Dec 9 2005, 10:16 PM) He was just asking a question...settle down... When someone poses a question as "dreamline what the f**k are you talking about!!!! " I guess I just get kinda twitchy. Maybe it's not me that needs to "settle down" I am sorry if that is the impression that you got, because that wasnt at all what I was saying. I was just confused why the conversation, which was talking about the band Dream Theatre, all of the sudden switched directions to some lady who was making claims that Rush had malicious meanings in thier songs. It just seemed to me like that conversation just came out of nowhere. No one said she was also saying stuff about DT, so I had no idea it was related.
  20. QUOTE (Dreamline @ Dec 9 2005, 09:24 AM) QUOTE (tick @ Dec 9 2005, 02:24 PM) dreamline what the f**k are you talking about!!!! Did you click the links Indica provided? Some crzy sh*t there - that's what I'm talking about What does that have to do with Dream Theatre?
  21. I've been a Rush fan for 5 years, seen em 5 times in concert. I dont consider myself a newbie to them anymore as I have had enough time being into them to not only aquire all thier albums, but learn 90% of thier songs on bass guitar. It may not be as long as the fan that has been into them since 2112, but I wasnt alive long enough to have that.
  22. Heh, another Dream Theatre thread.... ok. I have bashed them before, and it has nothing to do with thier similarities to Rush. In fact, the first DT recording I ever heard were some live bootlegs of them doing Rush songs, and I thought they did a rather good job at it. The problem I have with DT really came from when I saw thier live performance. The music they were churning sounded ok, but you could see by the band members body language that they looked like they didnt want to be anywhere near that stage that night. I recall the singer simply walking around the stage in the same manner that you would expect someone to walk around if they were waiting at a bus stop. The only member that really seemed into the music was the keyboard player. That made it fairly difficult to get anything out of the music. Then there was one point in the show that they gave a 3 minute intro to one of their songs, I could have sworn that was the intro to Xanadu and that we were all going to get a major treat for a Rush cover that night. But I was wrong, they went into something else, which was kind of a disappointment. Why give the intro to one thing and make everyone expect one thing to come up, and then play something else entirely? And as much as I have tried, I cant derive any emotional meaning out of thier music, which is what really turns me on about some progressive music. The way that not only are the band members accomplished musicians, but they still have the ability to strike your soul. The only impression I got from DT is that they were a band full of Joe Satriani's or Yngwie Malmsteen's. --- Sorry to be the basher here, but I have valid reason why I am not a DT fan. The reason why there are so many people bashing this band on this forum is because as a Rush fan, you get told by DT fans that you are SUPPOSED to like them, because they are so similar. It's almost a given that any DT fan is a Rush fan, but the majorit of DT fans that I have met think it should be the other way around as well, I dont buy into that. Also, if you are a good drummer, have some modesty. Peart doesnt walk around comparing himself to Buddy Rich, what makes Portnoy feel he should be the one comparing himself to Peart?
  23. QUOTE (progrush2112 @ Dec 8 2005, 12:37 AM) I'm getting back into Pink Floyd. Before i've only had Dark Side of the Moon. I've recently picked up Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Meddle, and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. What do ya'll suggest I get next? Definatly Animals.
  24. Heh not here floydfanatic, I havent listened to Journey in a while, but I have always been a closet Journey fan. I especially like the greatest hits live album though, the live recordings had much more of a punch to them then the studio versions did.
