  1. The album marked the most difficult and exciting comeback in Rush's history. To commemorate the date, the RushBrasil.com It features a special performance of "One Little Victory," recorded in Toronto during the R40 tour and included in the documentary: Cinema Strangiato. https://rushbrasil.com/en/vapor-trails-faz-24-anos-veja-rara-versao-de-one-little-victory/

  2. Yup. Here's an actual "conversation" I had with ChatGPT about 10 minutes ago: Me: "as confirmed, the data is binding on page load, but the dropdowns are not displaying the value." ChatGPT then spews a solution to why the dropdowns are not getting their value bound in the data bind My response: "it's interesting how sometimes you fail to understand the problem statement. the ddls are certainly getting their value set, but a ddl has two components: the value and the display text. it is the display text that is not being set" ChatGPT's mea culpa: " Yes—that’s a fair correction. I diagnosed the wrong layer. I interpreted: “dropdowns are not displaying the value” as: select.value isn’t being assigned But your actual meaning was: select.value is assigned, but the visible label text is blank because no matching display option exists. That’s a materially different problem." Yes, the "I" in AI is vastly overrated by non-experts.

  3. Considering drumming is the hardest job physically of any band member and the reason Rush stopped touring to begin with was because Neil decided he couldn't do it anymore, getting someone 30 years younger than Geddy and Alex was the right move.

  4. I could see them doing something where Anika plays something that's a "duet," where they play a few bars of one of Neil's solos on the video screen and then she does her own thing for a few bars and they trade off. Similar to how the current Adam Lambert version of Queen uses video of Freddie Mercury to pay tribute to him and make sure he's included in the show.

  5. Only a small handful of drummers would be capable of drumming for Rush. From what I saw on youtube I would say Anika definitely qualifies. If not her then possibilities (hypothetically speaking at least) would be Mike Portnoy, Terry Bozzio, Marco Minneman, Danny Carey and maybe a few others.

  6. Not to speak for the dead guy but knowing what we know about Neil's sensibilities, I think he'd be much more into the idea of Geddy and Alex using a drummer like Anika who might bring something fresh and different to his parts and interpret them her own way, than them just hiring a Neil clone (Portnoy etc) who would try to play the parts exactly.

  7. Right and who is going to drop 1K to boo Rush’s drummer anyway.

  8. That’s not the kind of community we have as Rush fans. I don’t see that at all. And it’s nice to see actual hardcore Rush fans posting here again. It’s been too long.

  9. If I see anyone boo AN I will happily dump a full beer on their head. I think we will get a proper solo from her, of her own. Perhaps something she has already performed. We will probably get a Neil video solo as well. Above someone made an interesting point about double-kicks. Not to detract from NPs revolutionary approach, but much can be played with one foot. Like the fills to Tom Sawyer. YYZ as well. The only song that absolutely requires double kick is one little victory, which I doubt they will play. But also - no doubt AN can learn/play the parts with the double kick too.

  10. I wonder if Anika will do a solo (and by a solo, I mean of her own composition, not just aping what's been done before) and I wonder if Rush fans will be accepting of that and not boo the poor girl.

  11. One thing I think will be interesting to see is how Anika Nilles handles double bass drumming plus electronic drums for certain songs, as in her videos, she only plays with one kick pedal. Thoughts?

  12. Don't be ashamed to take her to some tribute band shows. They might not be the actual band, but the feeling of hearing and seeing those songs being played in a live setting will always be a pleasure to experience.

  13. In my opinion, and I think they did it, the boys called Netflix (or Paramount?) in to film the whole voyage, from the first test at Geddy's, to the Anika idea and so on... I'd almost prefer to see a tv series with soundchecks, tour preparation and so on to two mere hours of live material at a price I can't afford... If they'll play Europe, maybe I'll change my mind ahahah

  14. Available Light, Different Strings. Anything the band hasn't previously performed live would be great. 'How It Is' on the last tour was a nice addition (I would have preferred other songs they hadn't performed but welcomed anything different) as was 'Entre Nous' on the S&A tour, etc. A new band arrangement means they could try a few more songs they haven't previously performed. For something totally out of left field, open the show with a long intro and break into 'Take A Friend' - I couldn't care what it is if it is something different...

  15. Jeff Beck in this century is not on Rush’s level of popularity. Rush’s final show was to a crowd of over 15,000. Jeff Beck’s final show, with all due respect, was to a crowd of 2500. Beck was a massive critical darling, pioneer of the guitar, and a real musician’s musician. The Grammy’s loved him and for good reason. But he did not build the fan base that Rush did. Playing with Geddy and Alex is going to get Anika far more attention from most rock fans than playing with Jeff Beck did.

  16. My daughter's 19. She was raised on the songs in my playlist (which, surprisingly contains far more Beatles, AC/DC, and ZZ Top than Rush), so her taste definitely skews towards classic rock. She's on a mission to see as many of those bands as she can before they're all gone. Rush is definitely on her bucket list and until today she and I were convinced that ship had sailed.

  21. So I guess now we have “the new girl”. Wow. Who saw THIS coming? I’m a little concerned whether Ged and Al will still have the voice and chops to pull this off considering they both struggled a bit on the R40 tour. But I guess they have 8 months to get in tip top shape. Unsure yet whether I will shell out the big bucks for this. I feel like I said goodbye properly at The Forum 10 years ago. But it’s Geddy and Alex playing together again, so I probably won’t be able to say no. I’m really interested in hearing their chemistry with Anika. Wonder how much of a preview we’ll get to hear in the coming months.

  23. Never in my wildest dreams did I consider this would happen again. They may be getting older and it may be only two of the legend, but this will certainly be special.

  24. Oh well, they were Rush before Neil, so let them continue under the same name. Sentiment about Neil should not keep them from the Jam. Anika will do Neil proud . .

  26. One more thought: It's extremely funny that for their entire career it was a widely held stereotype that Rush's fanbase were only dudes, and then they got a woman to replace Neil. I love it.

  29. I'm under no illusions that this will cover new ground they haven't covered before. But they seem to both have the attitude of 'what the hell, it's been long enough, let's have some fun with this'. So I'll go not expecting musical perfection. Robin Trower is still competent and touring at 80, so why not. You can tell the other old geezer bands are gassed and just going through the motions.

  31. Proud to say I once found myself taking a wizz in a pub washroom stood between Hugh Syme and Terry Brown. Didn't say anything (well guys don't) but had a wry smile at the significance 😁

  32. With the announcement video coming from Geddy's basement studio, they should name this the 'Get Alex out of my damn basement' tour. Hmmm, I'm thinking Tshirts with this would be pretty funny.

  38. I'm calling it now There will be a drum solo each night Not from Anika, but from NEIL It will be on the big screen and all around several screens Each night will play a different Neil solo that has been released T4E from DS, VT from Rio, R30, S&A, etc. Or maybe they rotate 2-3 of their favorites or Neil's favorites and it will play on the big screen as a tribute and as a break for the band Each night it will be introduced by Geddy as "And now Ladies and Gentlemen, The Professor on the drum kit" Also calling John Wesley to play with them during the tour as well as the unknown (Wakeman) keyboard player they already mentioned

  39. We're gonna' try. I'm worried tickets will sell out in minutes. I told her "nosebleed seats are better than no seats". We're looking at either a Ft. Worth or a Chicago show. The draw for her is Rush, the draw for me is, respectively, BBQ or Pizza.

  40. One thing I think hasn’t been posted yet. According to Wikipedia, Anika Niles is literally a professor of drumming at a music conservatory and also works at Drumeo. So not THE Professor, but Geddy and Alex have at least made sure A professor is on the throne!

  41. Excuse me while I remove my foot from my mouth. I was one of the "Rush is done touring" crowd. I'm shocked, and my 19 year old daughter is beside herself with excitement at the prospect.

  42. I never thought I’d have the chance to see them again. The R40 tour was my first ever concert. Dad and I drove down to the United center from Wisconsin and stood in the very back row at the far end of the arena. It’s still the greatest concert I’ve ever been to. I don’t really know how we would be able to afford a pair of tickets right now, and frankly I don’t know if I’ll be home in Indiana or still here in DC next summer. But if there’s one more chance for Dad and me to see our favorite band again, I want to take it. I’m so happy they included the statement from Neil’s family.

  43. I'm going to propose something. It may stretch forum rules, so hoping admin will hear me out. We all know how the shark infested waters known as ticketmaster has become. Unpredictable 'presales', unrealistic markups, etc. I know the presale will be likely in groups of 2. Since my wife, relatives, etc. have no interest in Rush, I always go by myself. Here's the deal...if I get 2 tickets, I would like to offer one of them to a forum member at my cost. Not sure of how the mechanics of this would work, but we're all 'family' in a sense and I have reasonable trust that I wouldn't get ripped off by a forum member. If no one on the forum wants my extra ticket, it gets tossed back into the shark infested waters. I'm going to one of the chicago shows and prefer middle floor section. When, or if, I'm able to get reasonable seats, I'll post a thread on the forum and we can take it from there. On one of the previous Rush tours, I resold my extra ticket on ticketmaster at a handsome profit. It basically paid for my ticket. I admit...probably a dickish thing to do. But the guy who bought the ticket next to me came 2-3 songs into the set, was late after intermission and was diddling on his phone alot of the time. Dude, why the f**k did you pay that much just to be disinterested? We didn't have any conversation and I wanted to keep it that way; 'oh yeah, I'm the guy that screwed you on your ticket...thanks!'. So hoping to make amends for my past sins. The forums members have been keeping the fire burning, so hopefully we can help each other enjoy this last go without breaking the bank.

  46. I am so happy to see this. I observed Geddy and his grandson at the Blue Jays post season opener on Saturday, and it actually made me a bit sad when I thought of the musical talent not being used. Of course always happy to see a grandad (as am I) enjoying a game with his grandson!
