  6. Very surprised there's not a post about this (unless I missed it). Doubly sweet since I live in Pittsburgh, where it happened. Not a native yinzer, but I feel the love for sure. When Beyond the Lighted Stage was in theaters, when they showed an overheard shot of Civic Arena and mentioned Neil's 1st show, the entire auditorium erupted.

  7. For a lot of it I used the actual apps on an ipad to play the parts. I also used a controller to trigger those app sounds for some of it. On the whole album, I think I used one plugin sound - a synth arp (which I only layered into an existing arp I had already played) - it just wasn't an avenue I went down...although I know it is an almost endless source of sounds. I know it seems kind of weird to do the drums last. With every song on the album, I just ran a very simple drum loop to create over top of, knowing I would be replacing it with a real drum performance and auxiliary percussion. It's sort of the one thing I'm actually confident with as a performer, haha, so I left it 'til last. Although saying that... I went through a cancer diagnosis and treatment last year, and the drums were all done during and just after chemo...so it was unbelievably challenging and physically really hard. But, it also, emotionally speaking, gave me something to focus on during that time, which I really needed. (Sorry if that's TMI...)

  8. Thank you all and everyone. A fairly quiet one, didn't get out until 5 pm due to threat of thunderstorms in area. Rolled into Total Wine and saw Octoberfest beers were in, so grabbed a couple of sixers. A nice steak dinner, and back home for beer and Armagnac. A quiet, but fortifying day.

  10. Metallica-72 seasons. I revisited this and.......i liked it. i'm starting to think my initial reaction was unfair. Cause it's just Metallica being who they are and there are number of fun songs on here. yes it's too long and this could have been a 45 minute banger and i'm not a fan of the production but i did find a lot i enjoyed. I think time and perspective has helped. Mick

  11. Mastodon- Crack The Skye Mastodon- Emperor Of Sand I used to think CTS was overrated. I now realise that due to its arriving at a very, very difficult stage in my life, I have struggled with it due to mental connections between it's release day and what I was going through at the time. I am proud to say I've had an emotional breakthrough and I'm really, really in love with this album now! It continues their evolution beautifully! It's very different to Blood Mountain but in a weird way it also feels like it's sister album. Emperor Of Sand is magnificent. I didn't like it at first but once again...came out during a difficult time. I do think it's the perfect album to play a new fan. It has all the brilliance of...Mastodon...and well...its just incredible.

  12. Mastodon There are two American bands who released debut albums in the 21st Century that I rank amongst the very greatest of all time. One is Trivium, the other is Mastodon. There is something so Rush like about how defiantly...odd...Mastodon are. Mastodon lead me to Rush so for me the two bands are closely tied.

  23. I can't reliably rank King Gizzard's albums numerically, but I can group them into tiers. Giving this another go after their latest 70s rock styled album (which is pretty good): Holy Collection PetroDragonic Apocalypse Nonagon Infinity Polygondwanaland Flying Microtonal Banana L.W. Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava Great stuff Omnium Gatherum K.G. Flight b741 Laminated Denim Changes I'm In Your Mind Fuzz Infest The Rats' Nest Mixed bag Gumboot Soup Murder of the Universe Fishing for Fishies Butterfly 3000 Styles aren't my cup of tea but I can't call them "bad" Paper Mache Dream Balloon Quarters Float Along - Fill Your Lungs Sketches of Brunswick East The Silver Cord Bad Eyes Like The Sky Made In Timeland 12 Bar Bruise Oddments

  31. The only food ads you should see on a hospital TV are for Taco Bell. There's a company that no longer tries to make its food look good for TV. Nothing curbs hunger cravings like seeing fake tacos and green sauces that are guaranteed to go right through you. Glad you're feeling better!

  35. Two shows on Roku, The Kids in the Hall and this series of short webisodes. Sort of a mockumentary satire of shows like Real Housewives.
