  5. Yeah Zeppelin...man if you aren't in the mood and they come on...it is unbearable 😑 If I smoked weed I think I'd be a much bigger fan

  6. I was watching an interview with Mike Rutherford where he talked about how he used to use alternate tunings for his 12 string guitar - instead of tuning the 2nd strings in octaves or unisons for the higher strings (like a normal 12 is tuned) he would tune the 2nd strings in different harmonies. You can hear the effect at the top of The Cinema Show - It is such an interesting effect, and really makes it seem like some other, more exotic instrument than it is. I've never heard of anyone else using this technique, though I can't imagine that he is the only one to experiment this way. (It seems like something Joni Mitchell might have done...). But it seems like it would kinda be a bigger deal...but I seldom hear people talk about it. (And I have to say, it seems in general that Rutherford is a bit of an overlooked musician... he did some pretty amazing stuff in Genesis' heyday...) Has anyone heard of other guitarists using this concept?

  7. Glad you said it and not me...I love Led Zeppelin but everything I've heard of them live is awful, I don't care what the mega fans say!!! Sadly I'm not a big VH fan, but for some reason I assumed they'd be great live.

  8. Zeppelin and VH are two of my absolute favorite studio bands, and also two of my least favorite live acts. To me they always sounded loaded and totally indisciplined live.

  9. Dio, Rainbow, his work with Sabbath, all on my radar for exploration this year. I have a feeling I will prefer his Sabbath to Ozzy's. No offense to Ozzy, I really enjoy him, in Sab and solo.

  15. This is what I mean. I mean yes, we could talk about greatness in terms of technical ability, but I don't see everyone in agreement that Mariah Carey is the best. Being stupendously talented doesn't mean everyone will like what you do. Many of my favourite singers have a genuine musicality, a feel, that I just can't get enough of. Geddy Lee, Cristina Scabbia, Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift, all are singers with weaknesses (especially live) that just WORK for me when they explore what they are capable of. I find I prefer feeling to technicality. Not always though. I love Mariah for example. But can't stand Celine. Ozzy I think is terrific because you can hear his enthusiasm for music. It's natural, something many technical singers can't learn. It's also why I secretly love Annette the most from the three Nightwish girls in terms of studio performance. She sounds like she is genuinely having a good time, and more spontaneous, whilst I find Tarja and Floor sound very rehearsed and overly professional. I will be interested to see how I find Dio. I've watched live videos of him in the past and found him very charming.

  16. Ozzy has always been a great melodic singer. With Sabbath he often just sang along with the riff. As a solo artist I think he got much better at creating his own melodic hooks. He's never been a technical singer but he has always had a tremendous sense of melody with his voice.

  18. This is one of those where I really gotta be in the mood for it, because otherwise, songs like The Working Hour, I Believe, Listen, just dont hit it much for me. But when I am in that mood, it really hits good

  19. I do really like Ozzy Sabbath. In fact, had I never heard the million bands who ripped Sabbath off, I think they'd be a major favourite of mine. And I also really love Ozzy's voice. Its very distinct and I think very overlooked when people talk about great singers. But...Dio... I just never gave his work as big an effort as I have other bands of his era. Its nothing personal, I can't listen to everything (though I try lmao)

  20. it's Apples and oranges. Ozzy's sabbath is much more eclectic surprisingly. it melds more styles. it tries basically everything. Dio's Sabbath is more what you think when you picture full on metal....IMO of course. It's more turn it up to 11 and just.......YEAAAAAAAAAAA LET'S ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! lol. the comparisons are silly Two VERY different bands if you ask me. Mick

  22. He has quite a long history in music. He actually started in the 1950s but it wasn't until Rainbow where he started to become more widely known. Starting with Rainbow his lyrics were a big influence on the power metal genre. He was one of the originals when it came to the fantasy, dungeons and dragons themed lyrics.

  23. No, I assume most rock stars were under the influence of something most of the time, but I think Page was known to be particularly out of it when they played live in the mid 70s. More so than most guitarists. I don't think that's a reflection on his skill as a guitarist as much as his attitude about performing live.

  25. It's funny how one can go through life, as I have, disliking bananas and being indifferent to cheese, and then be able to eat, and enjoy, a banana and cheese sandwich like this.

  27. Good list it's not very different to mine. I've got Painkiller lower too. I've got the newer stuff higher than you, except for Nostradamus, but I like Nostradamus too. This is my list, but it changes here and there from day to day or whenever it is I think of this stuff: Sad Wings of Destiny Stained Class British Steel Killing Machine Defenders of the Faith Screaming For Vengeance Sin After Sin Firepower Angel of Retribution Redeemer of Souls Point of Entry Turbo Painkiller Rocka Rolla Ram it Down Nostradamus

  35. MARCH DRAFT MADNESS!! The Chicago Bears have traded the No. 1 overall pick in next month’s NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers for a haul of draft picks and veteran wide receiver D.J. Moore, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The Panthers sent Chicago their first-round pick (No. 9 overall) and second-round selection (No. 61) in April’s draft, as well as a 2024 first-round selection, 2025 second-round pick and Moore. The move sets up Carolina to draft its quarterback of the future with the top selection.

  36. Can't get my head round the fact this film is something like 25 years old! Back in the day it was very much a "beer and curry" film. In other words you'd come home from the boozer with a dodgy curry and watch this on a Saturday night with the lads. It's still a great film, but am particularly pleased for Jason Statham, who went on to make some pretty good Hollywood gangster films back in the early 00s. 3/5

  37. I'm gonna wait to buy it from a book store or the publisher. I really, really, REALLY hope he does a book tour. I don't care if I have to wait hours in a line... it would be worth it to have even a few seconds to actually meet him in person.

  38. I wonder if he'll do a book tour. I wish he would do like Grohl and Bono did/are doing, that would be pretty cool. I'd rather sit and listen to him talk and tell stories for an hour or two as opposed to waiting on line for 5 hours to have 10 seconds with him like with BBBoB (which, don't get me wrong, was fantastic).
