Still Trivium. I've been hooked on metal but these guys have really stood out this go around. Mick2 points

This really is an amazing little debut. Just a bunch of teens, no budget, small German indie label, ambitious songwriting and world class musicianship. I sometimes see this as the demo version of Ascendency. All the pieces are nearly in place, in perfect order. You can see what attracted Roadrunner records to them.2 points

Interesting question, and these do feel like the right options. Hmm... Can't be CP, because T4E exists and is pretty much CP part 2, the leftovers. I don't think it's the debut either, because, there are definitely debut type songs as far out as Caress Of Steel after it. Speaking of CoS, it could be, but to me it feels like a pretty natural blend of the two records before it and the three records after it to me. Being the structural reverse of 2112 doesn't help its case for uniqueness either. That leaves Snakes and VT, two very odd records. Despite coming right after each other, the only noticeable similarity to me is Geddy's use of falsetto on both records, something he never did before and also didn't do on CA iirc. VT has the sonic template of a 90s metal album and the melodic sense of something much poppier. Snakes feels like the natural answer to the question, what if Rush just played like a normal band for once, which is to basically say they put a lot of the blues and psych from their high school years back into their sound and paired those sounds with a lot of verse chorus type songs (not surprisingly, it's the weirder songs that are the better ones on that record, not all those verse chorus filler tracks). To me, despite Snakes' own uniquities in Rush's catalogue, the obvious callbacks to a lot of old Rush influences makes it stick out a little less to me. So I'll give it to VT. Just a really unusual batch of tunes with production unlike anything else I've ever heard.2 points

I remember seeing that ages ago and it was pretty interesting! Was it any good? I can't remember!1 point

I especially love Geddy’s live vocals, because in the studio he tended to sacrifice passion for precision, but in live performances his voice had a little bit of a mind of its own and a passion that really moves me would come through.1 point

Used to not really like I Think I'm Going Bald, but I didn't really think of it as a joke song so now I just kind of think it's OK although it's still probably my least favorite song on the album.1 point

Each album is unique in some way, but I think Vapor Trails stands apart the most.1 point

I love every note on this album but I think they made a mistake including ITIGB on the record. I like the tune fine but I think it should have been released as a non-album B-Side for a few reasons. Musically the opening riff is similar to In the Mood and the lyrics were almost novelty song level but the real wrench that tune throws into the works, is it messes with the duration of Side 1 compared to Side 2. With ITIGB included Side 1 is around 24 minutes long, without it, Side 1 would have around the same duration as side 2. This messed up the track running order on the 8-track and cassette, ruined the flow on those 2 mediums.1 point

sonically it sounds like it was recorded at the same time as 21121 point

Yep/I have lived in two themed renovation/rental properties. The first was Rivendell and my current pad is Bacchus Plateau. It's about 7th as an album pour moi.1 point

No 6. Permanent Waves, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, Moving Pictures and 2112 are ahead, in that order.1 point
