  3. In celebration of Dio's 80th birthday, there's a reissue of Holy Diver, with a few demos and live tracks. I Interviewed Vinnie Appice, from Dio's band, and we spoke about it: https://www.sonicperspectives.com/interviews/interview-with-vinnie-appice/ Also, there are lots of cool Sabbath information on the interview. Hope you like it!

  4. Lots of older stuff last night - Just a fun album Seriously talented musicians It amazes me how Horslips failed to make it really big. This reminds me of a smoky rock bar in my old home town in the mid '70s. This was always playing. Back in the days when Ian could still sing and Tull were huge. Debut album from another of my favourite bands. A great guitar based album.

  5. Judas Priest - Stained Class (although Sad Wings Of Destiny runs it close) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (or Master of Reality ) Dio - Holy Diver Iron Maiden - Powerslave (or Seventh Son) Opeth - Blackwater Park (or Ghost Reveries) Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt 2 (or Six Degrees) Slayer - Reign In Blood Savatage - Hall Of The Mountain King (or Gutter Ballet) Motorhead - Ace Of Spades Mastodon - Crack The Skye I've kept it to one entry per band and limited it to what I reckon to be out and out metal bands rather than those which I would classify as hard/classic rock bands.

  6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Unlimited Love Not my first listen, but I have a few more thoughts built up now. From a pure songwriting standpoint this doesn't really hold a candle to their classic records. Everything is well written and there are a few interesting twists and turns which are mostly successful, but there are no Scar Tissues or Can't Stops in the mix, nor any If You Have To Asks or Give It Aways. That said, Flea's never been more on top of his game, stealing the spotlight like every other track, pulling from an endless river of funky and smooth rhythms with prime note choices. And the mix is, no joke, better than anything since Blood Sugar Sex Magic. It's a real treat for the audiophile in me. This is a record you put on just to hear the Chili's play like only they can, bouncing off of one another's strengths as though John never left the band (again). They pull off everything from their standard funk inflected alt rock, to heavy punk, to psychedelic jamming, and to folksy and even country tinged balladry. A few different songs feature total tempo and dynamic shifts reminiscent of classic prog rock, and while that's not a new influence for the Peppers, it's always entertaining to hear a band of their stature pull something out of left field midway through an already good song, if only to see what they come up with. Or maybe I'm just such a massive prog nerd that those kinds of transitions which might take most listeners out of a song reel me right back in, lol. It's nothing far out there, but a nice touch to keep things from getting boring. I wouldn't expect it to get anywhere near the legacy of BSSM, Californication, or even By The Way, but I imagine a lot of RHCP fans will find themselves reaching for this pretty often when the classics feel a bit worn out.

  13. I love a lot of this bands works. Not followed their discography since Stadium Arcadium came out. By The Way is my favourite of their albums. That song was one of the first rock songs I fell in love with!

  19. He's brilliant. I saw Queen + Adam Lambert in 2018 in Nashville, TN. My first and so far only time seeing the band. There's no one better suited to the very unique position than Adam. Vocally he can do anything in the Queen catalogue justice, without sounding trying to mimic Freddie. There were even a couple songs I thought he sang perhaps better than Freddie did on the record (Who Wants To Live Forever comes to mind). Throughout it all though he makes it very clear that he is just a massive Queen fan, like anyone in the audience, who's been given the incredible opportunity to help Brain and Roger keep this music alive and bring it to other fans around the world. He never once comes anywhere close to stepping on Freddie's legacy, and that's what makes it work. As a performer he's exactly as theatrical and bold as Queen's music requires, but as a person he's incredibly humble and respectful of the situation. I do hope to see them again.

  25. Kicker reporting (or just throwing stuff at a wall, seeing what will stick) that Bayern will look for Kane if Lewandowski keaves. Bayern can`t afford Kane, can they? Not that I think he`d prefer Germany to the just about perceptible glimpse of a decent Spurs season, World Cup fun etc.

  26. Yep Segue I confess I’m very much out of touch LOL … and have a lot of catching up to try & do ! 😮🙃 I’ve glanced at your profile out of curiosity Segue to see you were born in ‘90 so you are currently just 31 years young. I’m 53 so I’m 21 years older than your good self. When I was your current age of 31 in year 2000 I got into a new band at the time called Muse. The Muse guys were born in ‘77-‘78 so I’m nearly a decade older than they are. I also really like Haken , and I’m even more a far bit older than they are ! Time moves in mysterious ways to quote , a band we both adore , Toto .. and it’s true what they say every decade , as you get older seems to pass quicker. ( My forties seemed to fly by and I can’t believe I’m already 53… however when I see the likes of 74 years old Brian May & 72 years old Roger Taylor on stage , and still playing very well .. like I did just a couple of weeks ago at the Queen & Adam Lambert gig in Birmingham , UK .. it inspires me to keep playing the🎸and that as long as one is lucky enough to avoid any major health issues , you’re never too old to enjoy music😎 I’m curious to know how many ‘ young(er) ‘ ( i.e 10 years young than you for example ) or brand new upcoming metal bands , are the TRF young guns such as yourself and EP , into ? 🤔 Would an older Rush fan such as myself like them ? or would that maybe too much of a leap LOL seeing as I’m already decades behind the times ! 🙃 The ‘ younger ‘ Metal bands on your metal gods list which I was referring to , I’d already heard of by name , thanks to guys like your good self on the TRF but I haven’t as yet found the time to properly listen to them. ( I currently work a 11-12 hour day 😮 .. in an environment where I can’t listen to music whilst I work unfortunately 😕 ) plus have other commitments so it’s is hard for me to find the time 😧 At first I couldn’t believe that what I labelled as younger bands ( I bet that all these bands members all are younger than me LOL .. so my terminology isn’t totally wrong 😜) are as you claim are nearly 30 years old . I though Segue must surely be exaggerating. However .. I’ve just done some research on Wikipedia to find that overall yep Segues you’re right Trivium - 1st album releases in 2003 , a mere LOL 19 years ago ( I personally go by year of release of the first album rather than when the band was formed. ( How many fans can honestly say they were aware of them in when they started out in ‘99 ? … Lerxst always says Rush ‘ formed ‘ in ‘68 … when Alex & Geddy were just 15 ! .. but the debut album wasn’t released until ‘74 ) Blind Guardian - début album ‘88 … 34 years ago !! Gulp !!! How can this be 😱 In Flames - debut album ‘94 …a mere 28 years ago Rhapsody (of Fire) - ‘98 .. 24 years ago Lacuna Coil - ‘99 … 23 years ago spring chickens then ! Nightwish - ‘97 … 25 years ago Anyway , it might take me the next 30 years LOL but I will now start checking them all out ! 😎 Great Topic Segues btw 👍🙂 Who would make it onto your list of Top Ten AOR/Melodic Hard Rock bands ? 🤔

  30. It's funny when people complain that Mustaine is a bitter douchebag and don't seem to realize that's the reason we consistently get really good stuff from him. If he was content and happy Megadeth would probably suck 😄
