Astronomers on Thursday unveiled the first image of a supermassive black hole that roils the center of our galaxy, its gravity so powerful that it bends space and time and forms a glowing ring of light with eternal darkness at the core. The black hole, seen from Earth near the constellation Sagittarius, has a mass equal to more than 4 million suns. The new image shows it with three bright spots along a ring that, to the surprise of the scientists, tilts face-on toward the Earth. By the standards of other supermassive black holes, the scientists said, the one at the heart of our Milky Way is relatively calm — as quiescent as something that gobbles stars and reaches temperatures measured in the trillions of degrees can possibly be. I don't see the issue. iPhones, android and other phones exist. Spotify exists. I can't imagine many people want a giant phone AND an iPod anymore.3 points

it's purely a band decision obviously. and i feel what's "better" is in the eye of the beholder. aso depends on the band. examples Genesis- Not really a fan of the gabriel era. while it has moments of brilliance (foxtrot is for my money that era's best easily) i find most of it to be too precious and silly for it's own good. i prefer the pop Genesis much more. i know come at me, lol Yes- this to me is the opposite case. I love the proggy experimental stuff. Yes album, Close to the Edge, Relayer, Going for the One.......even Tormato. I love nearly all of of that to death. Pop yes.........yikes. It comes off like dinosaur past their expiration date musicians trying to be hip.......and IMO....it's so cringe. that rescue 90210 album or whatever the hell it's called has a few good tunes but is mostly dreck. Big Generator.....please, lol That Yes fell flat on it's face for me. so again.....depends on the band. Mick3 points

I do, and I have Apple music on my phone, but I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't have unlimited data, so... I'm a total nerd with my playlists. It's not only by artists, but I have a couple by decade, and then a bunch by year. And "soundtracks" one, two and three. And "Holiday" and "Irish music" and stuff I listened to in college...and on and on. So yes, that's all on iTunes so in theory, on my Apple Music, but then I have to switch to unlimited data in order to be using apple music in the car. I just don't use that much data otherwise... But, both my iPods still work right now, KNOCK WOOD....so I don't have to do anything till they both stop working.2 points

Now we turn to the lighter subject of sport, and Reg Harris, the former world cycling sprint champion, talks to us about the psychological problems of big race preparation.2 points

Oh yes, Kipling Road was a typical East End Street, people were in and out of each other's houses with each other's property all day. They were a cheery lot.2 points

Well look, I think I'd better have a second opinion on this. I want you to see a colleague of mine, a specialist in these sort of things, who has an office very much like this one as a matter of fact.2 points

If a new band wants to make an impact, I think they need to be true to themselves and not show their influences too nakedly. This might be poppy or it might be experimental. As a listener I want to hear something genuine and the early records of most bands will be where this exists, because it`ll be before the influence of success and money and pressures come in, it`ll be the music they created before success.2 points

More deets on the auction. I'm very surprised he's selling the ES-355TD, "Whitey". For many Rush fans that guitar is probably the most iconic one he's ever played.2 points

They're one of my favorites! They're a very fun band to listen to. They're usually pretty upbeat and energetic1 point

State Champs - Around The World And Back (first time listen) Well it doesn't stand out as an immediate favorite, but it could also be that I used my library's streaming service to listen to it so I wouldn't have to hear ads... and the sound quality left a bit to be desired. Generally enjoyable, sounds like summer!1 point

White Reaper - World's Best American Band Still rips. I don't generally give number scores to albums, but if I were to start doing it this would be a benchmark 10/10.1 point

Thank you for posting that! Intriguing video plus B and B are hilarious. Hate to admit it but I have a 2 DVD collection of them I watch when I want to laugh.. Plus they make me laugh anyway.. My husband teaches and when the school first gave out computers they were not password protected or anything.. (like 1993). 2 students snuck on there and posted a meme from the B and B episode Tainted Meat as a Screensaver. It was hilarious and we still laugh about it. We went to the wedding of one of the kids later on, they were good kids but not much computer security in those days! (Actually, that can't be right, but I think the school password was 1234 or something like that on every computer, lol)1 point

The released material from the live Toronto shows in 1981 is terrific. It doesn't bother me that the entire show isn't from a specific night. The material is outstanding and at this point in their career (i.e. done), I will gratefully and gladly take anything (especially when it is this great)!1 point

Hi All. Like many of you on here I've always enjoyed ESL (it was actually the album that first got me into Rush within the first 5 seconds of playing it), but was irritated by its various failings (too short, tracks in wrong order, fades between songs, etc.). Anyway, the recent PW and MP reissues have finally given us the chance to recreate ESL as I think it should have been released originally, including removing the annoying fades, adding back Geddy's song intros and most importantly expanding it to a decent length. I have now put together my own version of ESL, which for me is now the definitive version. Although the Toronto live set is great in its own right, I think there is space for both this and ESL in order to showcase ESL as a "best of two tours" compilation. Although it is almost all from officially released material (and for authenticity I have used ESL CD and video versions of tracks where available), I have slightly cheated by using part of the St. Louis show from 1980 in the end medley (and BTW I think the transition works really well!). The tracklist I have used (with sources for anyone who is interested in making their own) is as follows: 1. 2112 Overture (from Edmonton '81 on 2112 Deluxe edition); 2. Temples of Syrinx (from Edmonton '81 on 2112 Deluxe edition); 3. Freewill (from ESL); 4. Limelight (from ESL DVD, with intro from MP40); 5. A Passage to Bangkok (from ESL, with intro from Manchester 1980 from PW40); 6. Jacob's Ladder (from ESL); 7. The Camera Eye (from MP40); 8. YYZ (from ESL, with intro from MP40); 9. Broon's Bane (from ESL); 10. The Trees (from ESL); 11. Xanadu (from ESL); 12. The Spirit of Radio (from ESL); 13. Red Barchetta (from ESL); 14. Cygnus X-1 Book I (from PW40); 15. Cygnus X-1 Book II (from PW40); 16. Closer to the Heart (from ESL); 17. Beneath, Between & Behind (from ESL); 18. Tom Sawyer (from ESL, with intro from MP40); 19. Vital Signs (from New World Man B-side); 20. Natural Science (from MP40); 21. Medley: Working Man/Finding My Way/Anthem/Bastille Day/By-Tor & The Snow Dog/In The End/In The Mood/2112 Grand Finale (WM to BD from St Louis '80, BT to GF from ESL DVD; 22. La Villa Strangiato (from ESL). The whole show runs for just over 2.5 hours and fits perfectly onto 2 CDs for whose who still use them (split after Red Barchetta). Let me know what you think...1 point
