  1. I wish. The last few days have been anytinig but. One of the hospice doctors suggested I stop taking the steroid for a week or so. I agree. They had to change the pump line location to the other side of my stomach late this afternoon and my pain is really out of control. I never realized how bad it is until they took the pump out. It was out for about maybe 20 minutes tops. Too long. Keep those prayers and hugs coming. I'd be lost without them and the friendship of so many of you. You have no idea how much it all means when everything else has lost all meaning. :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2: :hug2:  Sending my best Lorraine; be strong! I'm trying. This afternoon I told my hospice nurse that I was determined to stay alive to watch my sunflowers grow and bloom again this Spring. Even she was taken aback by this one. I don't think she thinks I'll make it to Christmas let alone May. We shall see. I am not going to let this disease take me without a battle. :madra:

To the above, add ACDC For Those About To Rock, April Wine Nature of the Beast, Iron Maiden Killers, Sammy Hagar Standing Hampton, Billy Squier Don't Say No, Loverboy Get Lucky and you've pretty much got the year's soundtrack where I went to school.

  11. 1.) Rush 2.) King Crimson 3.) Pink Floyd 4.) Led Zeppelin 5.) Yes 6.) Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson 7.) Frank Zappa 8.) Tool 9.) Genesis 10.) King's X 11.) Opeth 12.) Jethro Tull 13.) The Who 14.) Peter Gabriel 15.) Red Hot Chili Peppers 16.) Alice In Chains 17.) The Grateful Dead 18.) Van Halen 19.) Jimi Hendrix 20.) The Beatles 21.) The Doors 22.) Dixie Dregs 23.) The Pineapple Thief 24.) Smashing Pumpkins 25.) Queen I made a cool graphic a few years back; merging the logos of all my favorite bands - I had to figure out which bands were my "favorites". I would say the top tier ~1-8 is pretty clear for me. After that, I used a spreadsheet and developed a complicated algorithm to figure it out - rated each band that appears in my I-tunes (digitized from my CD, DVD-A and vinyl!) in various categories - percentage of their discography that I love/like/dislike, how broad is their discography (for example, there are bands that I love that have one album. Can they compete with bands that I love that have 11 albums?) how many times I'd seen them in concert, how far would I travel to see them in concert, emotional connection to the music, etc, etc. The above list has been modified from my earlier takes - I have about 180 bands/artists represented on that list. It gets tough for me as a drummer - because there are certain drummers that I follow throughout their career - for example, Bill Bruford. Loved him in Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, UK, his band, etc. Then, there are drummers like Marco Minnemann that I follow - I loved him with Steven Wilson; but also really love The Aristocrats and McStine/Minnemann (Probably one of my top albums of 2020) - I debated how can I include a new artist that I love; they haven't really stood the test of time yet. There were some bands that I loved in 1988 that I can't really anymore, etc.

  13. Since you can't go to church anymore can you have a priest stop by your house to say some prayers and give you communion? Both my mom and grandma did that when they got too sick to go to mass anymore. I know that's not the same as going to mass but it can still be something to keep you connected with the church in some way. The priest called this morning and is coming on Friday morning. Thanks again for the suggestions. :hug2:

Some of these bands / Artists, I do not like all of their records only a few. Also I did not add bands / artists that I only like one record of (some of those I have), such as Talking Heads, Queens Of The Stone Age, Madonna and Alice Cooper. Queen (Includes Brian May solo) Rush (includes Geddy and Alex solo) Black Sabbath (includes Heaven & Hell and Ozzy Osbourne solo) P!nk Marillion (Fish era only, also includes his solo stuff) Led Zeppelin (includes Robert Plant solo) Pink Floyd (Includes Roger Waters solo) Lucifer Frank Zappa Free (I like this one step better than Bad Company) Bad Company (includes Paul Rodgers solo, The Firm and The Law) Lita Ford (includes The Runaways) King Crimson Nirvana Peter Gabriel David Bowie Elton John Steven Wilson (includes Porcupine Tree) Jimi Hendrix The Darkness The Beatles (includes John Lennon solo) Supertramp UFO Bob Marley ZZ Top

  21. 25 in order? Impossible. But since I'll like all of these bands I mention I don't mind if they aren't in order. Rush Bad Religion Midnight Oil The Clash PJ Harvey Sparks Death Angel Jethro Tull Drive-by Truckers Tom T. Hall Admiral James T. Slim Cessna's Auto Club/Munly Madness Soundgarden Living Colour Fugazi Laibach Iron Maiden Clutch SOAD B.O.C. Alchemist Stan Ridgway Aesop Rock The Kinks Probably missed a lot. I like some better, but if the catalog is too small or too hit and miss I excluded them. And also, I definitely missed some.

  22. I'm so happy for this. :rose: Every now and then I remember the rose speech in one of the Sherlock Holmes stories (The Naval Treaty). It was perfectly performed by the late, great Jeremy Brett. ‘What a lovely thing a rose is! . . . There is nothing in which deduction is so necessary as in religion. . . It can be built up as an exact science by the reasoner. Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its colour are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.’

  25. Got the kitty cave put together for my outdoor cat. Has a heated pad inside a styrofoam cooler that is inside our closed in back porch. She's a TNR kitty but haven't been able to get her to come inside so this way she is warm and comfy and out of the weather. Temperatures have been below 30 degrees the last few nights. Makes me happy to go out and see the glow of her eyes inside the cooler and knowing she is warm.

  26. About ten minutes ago I finally got a good view of the bear that's been roaming the neighborhood. He was in the middle of the street when I rounded the corner walking home from a friend's. It grunted and retreated to the base of a huge pine where he often sleeps during the day. From the base he just stared as I walked by. My wife got a nice photo.

  36. It was fun to read through this thread - I didn't see it when most the posts got written. I have to say that I think Neil is a polarizing figure in the drumming community for a different reason than many have stated, essentially say that the "groove police" are the culprits. I actually think that a lot of it has to do with the pedestal that the rabid fans puts him on. I think that the unique nature of Rush's music created a fan base that, in relative terms, was somewhat insular. Meaning, someone who loves something like Fleetwood Mac is likely going to love lots and lots of other things, but there is something in the specificity of Rush's music, the singular nature of it, that bred a fan base that was focused on them to the exclusion of other groups. This is a generalization - and I think it was far more true in the formative years of the band as opposed to the current, internet age we live in. I certainly knew Rush fans growing up who listened to little else. This I think creates a distorted view, because they don't really care that there are other great drummers out there, if those drummers aren't playing Rush or Rush-like music. And when you add to that the fact that Neil's parts are busy, flashy and attention getting, and integral to the compositions themselves, you get a group of people who consider Neil to be an absolute GOD among drummers. But they don't all seem to have much of a frame of reference. And there are people in the drumming community who hear that hero worship stuff, and think "Have these people heard Vinnie Coliuta play? Simon Phillips? Billy Cobham? Mark Brzezicki? Benny Greb? Terry Bozzio? Etc Etc Etc...", and some of those rabid fans just don't seem interested in something that isn't Rush. Which is fine from a listening perspective...but distorts things when it comes to forming an opinion. You can still see this today. I have watched a few "reaction" videos of people watching Peart's solos...and there are so many numbskulls who watch him do the 5 stroke crossover thing or do a big run down his toms and say crap like "He's not human!! He's an insane machine!!!!" It's embarrassing. And people who have some perspective on how many incredible players exist in the world - virtuosos behind the kit - they look at that and say "the whole Peart thing is just a bunch of bullshit - the fans all think he's good because he has 100 toms and does a dumb little marimba thing that a mallet player could play in the 9th grade." And the irony, to me, is that if he hadn't been held up as some god of drums, his detractors I think would be more willing to just put him in the pantheon of great rock drummers, which is where he belongs. Of course we're talking about art, so the idea of a "best" is totally absurd...BUT...if there was such a thing - if there was ONE best drummer in the world - then EVERY other drummer has drummers who are better than them. From a technical standpoint, especially (but not only) now, there are players who are more skilled than Peart. I think Neil's greatest strength was as a composer of drum parts - he was powerful, inventive and unique - and he had a high level of skill to put his ideas across. If people had generally talked about him the way that people talk about Stewart Copeland or Phil Collins or Bill Bruford, I think there wouldn't be such a reactionary response in some circles.

First 20 that come to mind: Dream Theater Yes King Crimson Green Day The Beatles The Who Van Halen MisterWives White Reaper Eve 6 Styx Elton John Jeff Buckley Radiohead Coldplay Megadeth Judas Priest Thin Lizzy Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Okay here are some more that would want to be on that same list: Weezer, Soundgarden, PFM, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, OutKast, Kendrick Lamar, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, My Chemical Romance, U2, Supertramp, The Police, The Flaming Lips, Chicago, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Antrhax, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, James Taylor, Kansas, Dave Brubeck Quartet... I'm sure I'm forgetting something essential to me, lol.

  39. I bought it used from an independent dealer. No warranty. Some parts of it yes. Apparently many 2017 Forester's had faulty rear-gates and bad air-conditioner compressors. Mine does have the faulty reargate, but the AC works fine. Not sure what to sell it for. I got a deal on it, but I understand, for whatever reason, used cars are now at a premium and, if you have a good one, you can make a killing. I've already been told mine is a solid car and it only has 52,000 on it. The tires I bought when I bought the car, so they have only about 25.000 miles on them and I've had them faithfully rotated. Also been faithful with oil and filter changes. Car initially didn't have any dints, but even though I have a disabled permit, Walmarters managed to dint it up here and there.. I have no idea how - maybe it is from the carts. Bahamas, you sound like my sister telling me to sell and use the money to do something special for myself, only now I am in no physical condition to do anything and, without being able to drive, much.
