  1. Of course I'm delirious over this. Love the new single, love the Queen-like sound towards the end. And with Will Evankovich involved I'm sure the rest will be great. Seeing them at rescheduled NJ balloon fest in July. I'm still hoping the postponed full Mission show will be rescheduled because the two times I saw it, it was so great.

  2. WOW!! Just heard the title track. I had no doubts that this record would be anything but bad, but still they manage to shock me with just 1 song. Very classic Styx vibes, as well as some Kansas vibes here and there which is the best thing I could hear right now, with Kansas being my current obsession. Screw you American Prog deniers!

  3. There are tons of reaction videos on the ESL film version of Xanadu. It makes sense -- most of those reactioners (Reactors? Reaction Jacksons?) look for suggestions on what to react to next from their comments sections. If you're going to introduce someone to a song what shows what three guys could do to sound like six, you recommend that video. To me, that ESL version of Xanadu is Rush at the absolute height of their powers.

  5. They're touring for 9 days? I expect a full tour in 2022 from them.....and a whole lot of other folks. :7up: Digging the title track. Loved The Mission. If you haven't seen the Tommy Shaw episode of Live At Darryl's House I recommend it.

  6. I agree. it's like......shit if this song is anything to go by. This album's gonna rule. i kinda love how this band is seemingly getting a new lease. cause The Mission was awesome. Mick Agreed, I'm glad theyve had the motivation to go and write new album lengths worth of songs in the past half decade, although they still went into the studio before The Mission. They had the Regeneration EPs, where they covered a bunch of Styx hits, a couple Damn Yankees songs, and also had a new song on there, and they wrote a couple new ones for their live album One With Everything. I mean, this lineup is pretty much the same one since '99, with the exception of the Bassist change. The talent in this band is crazy!

  7. "A new era of hope, survival, and prosperity comes calling on STYX’s Crash of the Crown, the band’s first studio album since 2017’s The Mission. Though the 15-track album takes a hard look at some inherently dark subjects, the prevalent light at the end of the tunnel eventually becomes each song’s focal point — a persistent fervor to keep moving forward and achieve the greater good. Featuring "Crash of the Crown," "Reveries" & more, available on CD, 180g black vinyl, and 180g clear vinyl." 1. The Fight Of Our Lives 2. A Monster 3. Reveries 4. Hold Back the Darkness 5. Save Us From Ourselves 6. Crash of the Crown 7. Our Wonderful Lives 8. Common Ground 9. Sound the Alarm 10. Long Live the King 11. Lost at Sea 12. Coming Out the Other Side 13. To Those 14. Another Farewell 15. Stream The albums' title track is available on YouTube, and on all streaming services. The album is currently available for pre-order. I know a lot of people here on the forum enjoyed "The Mission" so figured I'd share the news on here. (Pat stay out!) This is their longest album, with 15 songs, as their previous 3 albums have all featured 14 songs in total. Also note-worthy is that they are using their original Logo back from the Styx II album (the one with "Lady"), which they also use on their new EP, "The Same Stardust" which is also releasing this year on June 12th as a part of Record Store Day. This is their first studio album to use the logo since 1973, but not their first time using it overall since then. This also means Styx is back on tour. They have announced a tour with Collective Soul, beginning June 18th, the same day as the release of "Crash Of The Crown", and ending June 27th.

  11. Here's a link to the "Xanadu" reaction video. I just discovered this guy a couple days ago; his identification of notes boggles my mind. When I was in college, I dated (and briefly thought I would marry) a wonderful man who had perfect pitch, and he'd do things like hear a glass breaking in a restaurant and say, "That's a G!"

  14. I appreciate this post, Mr. Rogers. An idea on how to fix this problem? I have one. We remind everyone about the still standing rule of no politics discussion outside of SOCN. That rule has served us well for many years. If you really want to talk politics or religion and you're not a member of SOCN, either ask an admin for access (assuming you meet the three requirements listed in the Rules thread), or don't talk about politics out here. Period. If you fine folks can go back to self-policing this sort of thing, something the regulars have historically been good at, then by all means do so. SOCN and its request-only access exists on this board for a reason. Any threads on the rest of the board that turn political or religious will be closed or moved into SOCN. Yes, there are possible exceptions for certain current events topics, and such topics would be judged on a case-by-case basis. You guys know the difference between important current events and politically charged topics. Thank you for having this discussion, JR, 73, and everyone else. I umm might have been a little touchy about it the past few days and thrown a tantrum in another thread; not the best way to deal with it so I appreciate your level headedness. And keeping fingers crossed for the Go-Go's!

  15. It doesn't matter what temperature a room is. It's always room temperature. When discussing food I believe room temperature is considered 74 degrees F. That may be too cold for some people. They can sit in the corners, which are usually 90 degrees. Tuesday around 5 pm was absolutely vile! 94 ° outside and 90 inside. Around 8 pm it was 86° outside and felt definitely cooler. When the install technicians left yesterday and I posted my OP it was 91 outside and 89 inside. Within an hour inside temprature was down to 81. I'm still working with settings, but if I can keep things around 78 inside, I'm fine.

  18. I found this guy a couple of months ago, he's from New Zealand and he says Rush wasn't a big thing in his neck of the woods. So he has started doing a few videos. I find him funny because he really is in the dark about Rush's music. He's trying to get his head around there are only 3 of them and in the later videos, he's trying to figure out where all the sounds are coming from. He's better than some of those others who just say wow a lot. Andrew Rooney is his name.

  27. Before Rick's recent posts about The Go-Go's, I wasn't aware that there was anyone out there who took them seriously. That's probably why someone we have never heard of is beating them in the rock hall voting. As for the political talk, it's been a crazy year for that. Because of the pandemic and all the political decisions that have happened regarding it, we have gotten a bit loose with talking about politics. I thought it was ok to bring politics up a little in threads about the pandemic but maybe I was wrong about that. Other than those threads, I don't think I have brought up politics anywhere else on the board.

  30. So, in your mind that looks like a coup? Orwellian idiocy indeed. So, in your mind that looks like a coup? Orwellian idiocy indeed. Looks more like he's late for a date in a black sedan to me. You can cherry pick a picture from just about any violent event and claim it wasn't what it actually was. Kind of sad that some have fallen for it. Can you all please stop discussing the January 6th riots outside of SOCN? I thought I posted this before, maybe I didn't. MY SON WORKS IN THE CAPITOL COMPLEX. HIS OFFICE WAS EVACUATED THAT DAY. HIS ROOMMATE IS THE LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR FOR A MINNESOTA REPRESENTATIVE AND HAD TO FLEE DOWN A HALLWAY OUT OF HIS OFFICE THAT DAY. They are friends with many Capitol policemen, who are essentially their co workers. The lives of those policemen changed forever. At least 81 of them were assaulted. So yes, it was a big thing, yes, it was a coup attempt, yes, people were hollering "Hang Mike Pence" and meant it, and yes, Dinesh D'Souza tweets weird uninformed stuff but why do we have to talk about it here? I hear about it enough with many, many people from Pennsylvania currently being prosecuted for their crimes there that day. I would rather not hear about it outside of SOCN. Thank you in advance. With your son working at the Capitol Complex your feelings on the matter are understandable. It was a big deal. I remember the sadness and outrage I felt that day. January 6th unlike 911 is more complex, with more moving parts. Moving parts by different factions choosing to use the riot event for their own means. While this may be the wrong forum it needs to be discussed on the macro level if we're to learn from it. Things I believe to be true. Some were there in the Capitol with the worst intentions, insurrectionists. The zip ties, hang Mike Pence. Some were peaceful protesters, they made a stupid decision entering the building. They were unarmed people engaging in civil disobedience. Stupid decisions have consequences. An unarmed woman was shot and killed by police. When you violently engage police at a rally or protest you forfeit being a peaceful protestor. For political purposes the events of January 6th were crafted into The Insurrection Show. For propaganda not truth. Those at the capitol grounds that never breached a barrier, never violently confronted police, that just attended a rally, shouldn't fear any repercussion. Our justice system is supposed to be professional with the ability to figure it all out. The fact that no one has been charged with insurrection thus far gives me comfort that people aren't being overcharged and locked in a dungeon for life without due process. I do agree with yourprevious post that many people have made politics a large part of their lives but most of the time I dont wanna hear about it, Im not in SOCN.

  33. A cynic might say the whole trend is simply making a profit off pretending to like people's favorite songs. And he wouldn't be far off. He'd be spot-on in most cases. Reaction channels are frequently about building up a big enough subscriber base to monetize the channel. Edited for clarity.

  35. I was just watching a video on YouTube where Paul Stanley talked about Rush as an opening band. It was clear that he considered the debut album to be the high point of Rush's career. SMH I don't even know what to say except ... he really does have dumb ears. Which shouldn't surprise me, but it does. It's telling that the guys in KISS not named Ace never did much jamming/improvising offstage

Unless he had a keyboard or guitar out of frame, he's gifted with perfect pitch. He must be a professional or something. ;-) Also, it was nice to see that classical composers make stankface too.

  45. I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to watching reaction videos. What bothers me the most is the need to pause the song and analyze for five minutes the 30 seconds they just heard. Yeah, I know, copyright stuff and all that. But that is not how you're supposed to listen to a song for the first time. Take it all in at once and then form your opinion. A few of the people are fairly well educated in music, so their videos are pretty decent. The vast majority are just kids playing with their YouTube toy, because they love to hear themselves talk....and talk and talk and talk....
