  1. I like it when an album has a side-long epic, a song with a little bit of French lyrics in it, a ten minute instrumental and finally a song about trees, fighting for sunlight. That's what makes an album perfect to me!

  2. Someone posted this in a Rush FB group I am in. I love it! It is Geddy performing at a friend's birthday party in 1966. (Depending on the time of year, I guess that means that Geddy was 13 as well?) :ebert:

  7. Pretty much the same here. His version of Subdivisions elevated the song. This version of NWM, not so much.

  15. When I saw Rush live during Clockwork Angels Tour. I wanted them to play Mystic Rhythms, since its one of my favorites from their Power Windows record, and they played so many songs from that record, but not Mystic Rhythms.

  21. I've left before they played that silly version of Working Man to catch an earlier bus and beat the crowd. No shame in that. On the Time Machine Tour, Alex's blistering solo was the highlight of the show.

  22. Fast loud song Slow quiet song Rinse and repeat In seriousness, that's pretty much it...good albums have dynamics. For example, what bugs me about GUP is the first tracks all sound the same. One of the best album openers is AIC Them Bones. Layne's scream just slams your head. After 5 seconds you know the album will kick ass. If you have some weak shit, bury it towards the middle so you kinda forget about it after the album is done.

  23. "The singer got her white poofy "Glinda the good witch" dress caught in the stage riser." :rfl: This actually happened when a stage riser rose up and caught part of her dress after the encore. She looked off stage and they had to back it down to get it uncaught. A Spinal Tap moment for the diva. That ends it for me. I got the tickets as an anniversary present for my wife since Celine is one of her favorites. My wife wasn't real impressed with the concert even as a fan. For one, they delayed the start for nearly an hour while playing rehashed disco house music and filming audience members dancing like fools. Then Celine did a bunch of pop covers when she has tons of her album songs to sing...probably a hangover from her Vegas days. The concert was only 1 1/2 hours. They probably delayed the start so people wouldn't notice the concert ending shortly after 9pm. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think her band was pre-recorded. They just sounded too perfect to me. I knew it was a tolerance experience for me and personally I'm glad it ended sooner, but jesus what a overrated disappointment.

  27. From "Hammer of the Gods," the biography of Led Zeppelin: "When George Harrison learned that Zeppelin would often play for more than 2 1/2 hours, he said 'f**k me! When we played in The Beatles we were on for 45 minutes and could get off in 15!'" We've been spoiled by rock bands.

  30. I have now listened to 4 of them! And I want more, but that will do for a ranking for now: Red Lizard In The Court Of The Crimson King In The Wake Of Poseidon the more I listen, the more I hear how everything seems to be leading up to Red. While it's often too abrasive and dejected for my mood, Red seems to be the most tightly wound, efficiently designed, and chillingly executed of their records to me. Each of the other three seems to alternate between taking things perhaps a step too far (not that that's usually a bad thing, I tend to love excess) or not quite far enough (like Poseidon coasting a bit too much on Court's formula and not always playing to its strengths), but Red manages to shock, disturb, and addict the listener with its excellent balance of freak out and restraint. It also just has the best sound/production of the four, which always helps (though I dig the extreme juxtapositions of the first three). It's figural passages feed off of its atmosphere, and that atmosphere is kept interesting by the figural passages. The only I'm not too keen on is the length of Providence. I like the ideas they play, and it's very important to the atmosphere of the record, but to me it just doesn't really cover enough ground to justify its full length. Between Providence, Moonchild, and the instrumental bits of Lizard, I'll take Lizard every time. It's constant gradual movement from folk to jazz to rock to circus music (the last little bit) is entrancing.

  32. I'm just smoking a spliff, made with Canadian medical cannabis for the first time in my life... and Wow, the guys did a great job on that 5 grams sample. Very smooth to smoke, not scratchy, or rough at all, just mellow and a really, really enjoyable soft high. Great stuff! Bakerstreet - 21,7% THC - 1% CBD

  38. What case can you make, other than personal bias for the exclusion of Iron Maiden? None. Maiden should be in, no questions asked. Many posters have said the RRHF is BS. I agree. There is no argument that can be made against Maiden that makes sense to me.... Tell me why Maiden SHOULD be in. They’re among the bestselling metal bands of all time. They directly inspired nearly every metal band since their first few records. They’re consistently touted as one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Their fans are among the most dedicated and hardcore in the music industry. Their classic run of albums lasted roughly a whole decade. Their newer work has also received praise from critics and fans. They’re among the most hardworking and high performing live bands of all time. Their mascot is probably the most beloved mascot in the music business. They rock. They’re iconic.

One of the bonus songs was a backing track rough mix of 'I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWQQMtAASDg An individual can do their own karaoke voice over and their own instrumentation on something like this.
