  1. This thread that she began almost six years ago ought to be pinned. If I remember correctly, her post is #1 with the most likes ever on TRF.

  2. Dude - what happened over there? Any word? I hit up FJ about it a few days ago on Facebook. He said the hosting company has been unresponsive to his inquiries, which is unusual because they normally are. But then he went on to say "they just need to bounce the site. I don’t expect it to be a big deal." Not exactly sure what that means, to be honest. He said he has backups and will move the site if necessary but he'd rather not do that. Says he'll continue to wait for their response at least until the end of the week before he does anything radical. I just read this. Kind of pisses me off. He's paying good money to keep that site up. The hosting provider is billing, they should be responsive. Not acceptable under any circumstance.

  10. That's been brought up a number of times over the years that I have been here. They don't seem to want to waiver on censoring certain words. Which really doesn't make any sense to me these days. In the early days of the internet it was more appropriate. But now that everyone has access to everything seeing the word "f**k" written out is far from the worst thing someone can come across while browsing the internet. Kids say worse than that in middle school. Why the f**k does anyone (on either side) care about this? Everyone knows what's being said.

  12. I could really get my inner asshole going on CP. From what I understand (from a PM by a different Brit) it was me who finally drove Slim away for good, which I had mixed feelings about. I liked him, but hypocrisy is hypocrisy, no matter who's doing it. The political board there was actually dominated by liberals, as opposed to here. I got in many heated discussions over there with liberals, and as I've shifted my views over the years, now I have them here with the extreme conservatives. I'm a mess.

  14. Here it is. Okay probably not board war level hate but many of the posts pretty much depict us as assholes. It's actually kind of funny. Tony R makes some good posts defending us but he was mostly preaching to deaf ears. Other TRFers were cool too though so it's not a total bash-fest. Hell, for our size back then I thought our admins did a pretty good job managing the rebel rousing especially when compared to the rest of the Internet during those wilder west days. (That is except when Ken and Julie would intentionally release super troll Oax onto the board just for shits and giggles. lol.) http://www.therushfo...terparts-forum/

  16. The whole shcmoog thing over there was pretty bad. Like where does fun trolling end, and abuse of the board begin? It did there. But hell, at least I was able to turn it into an opportunity to post photos of the bathroom at CBGB. So you see, every cloud has a silver lining. Even if that silver lining is plastered with Dead Kennedys and Agnostic Front stickers....

  18. Let me preface this by saying I really don't know a lot about how TRF is run by its admins on a daily basis. Light touch? Heavy handed? Somewhere in-between? Probably a light touch, I'm guessing, with a like-minded, self-policing membership. I also want to say I've mostly been just screwing around in this thread if that's not already obvious, I don't presume to speak for other CPers. This is all just my opinion. If TRF wants to be a safe haven from trolls, more power to them. They can run it anyway they see fit. But there's a difference between a permissive posting environment, which CP employs, and simply letting trolls run roughshod over your board. I can't stand trolls either. But since CP has traditionally promoted free speech it's been sometimes, in the past, a tough call on what's acceptable speech and what's straight up abuse. It can be even tougher when a debate erupts amongst the membership on what actually constitutes trolling when a purported trolling event occurs. Spamming multiple threads, randomly insulting members without cause, making threats, defaming someone's character are all grounds for banning in my book if the behavior takes place on a continual basis. That said. there is a greater permissiveness in our political forum for insults to fly but only a few current members engage each other in this way nowadays and there seems to be an understanding that the insults stay in politics and not spill over into the general threads. So this is not considered trolling on our board. It can even be fun to witness these back-and-forths and you get the sense they're putting on a show for us. They're awfully good at what they do. lol. CP ain't perfect admittedly and free speech ain't always pretty. Past real trolls have often played the free speech card in an attempt to take advantage of CP's permissiveness. It can be especially difficult on an admin when a clique of formerly upstanding members turns against the board for some imagined slight or no slight at all and starts trolling the board in, what seems to me, a weird hive-mindededness and in an often very take no prisoners way. How long do you let members who were friendly perhaps just the day before continue this kind of behavior before hitting the ban button? It's a tough call. You hope they return to being civil but sometimes they don't. And understand these member-turned-trolls often still have a lot of friends and allies on the board lobbying for them so it can start becoming a very politically divisive thing that can actually lead to years long tension among the remaining members. And to this day there still could be differing opinions on who the actual trolls were during our hostile intra-community outbreaks. Our Brit-trolls, on the other hand, who cheekily own that title, are not actual trolls. They can be tenacious, suffer-no-fools debaters, are often contrarian, and tend to abhor fanboyism. They will criticize the band's music and the band itself as much as they please, thank you very much. But none of this is what actual trolls do because there's usually a thought-out reason for their criticisms. At one time, I'll admit they weren't everyone's cup o' tea but, dare I say it, they've mellowed quite a bit over the years. The rest of the membership is not a lot different than you guys, really. CP is a lot smaller now and that's helped us a lot when it comes to us getting along with each other. General assholeishness is way down. But we still like a bit of edginess, memeyness, and a little bit of just-for-fun ball-busting in our posting style but, hey, I bet this board is no stranger to that stuff either. And while we think it's perfectly fine to criticize Rush and their music, no one should be mindlessly spamming every thread with it. You really are a troll in that case. But I love that CP has always had a light touch with the ban button and censorship. The freedom we've had over the years has been worth the strife, imo. We're not as young as we used to be so I reckon most of us don't want to involve ourselves in flame wars anyway. Outside the politics forum, we mainly just engage in a lot of cheekiness. CP still might not be for everyone but I'm hoping this helps to dispel the myth that we're all just jerks. :rush:

  24. Ya know, I just read that 9 page thread about CP that was posted in 2011 and recently bumped. G-darn it, there's a lot of hate in that thread not to mention the hate in here! It comes off like a board war where one side doesn't know a war is happening. I've been at CP virtually since the beginning and I only remember TRF being mentioned a handful of times in snarky fashion and most of those comments came from a former member who is now a full-time member here. So I really don't understand all the hate and the hopeful wishes that CP is finally finished. I suspect it's more the culture of the site that's hated than anything CP ever said or did to TRF.

  31. the quintessential version is the Andy Vandette remaster. very hard to find but sounds great. ANDY VANDETTE COMMENTS ON MIX OF LATEST "VAPOR TRAILS" DIGITAL RELEASE On May 14th iTunes released two new digital only Rush collections, Rush The Complete Mercury Years, the complete Rush album collection from 1974-1987, as well as Rush: The Studio Albums 1989-2007. The collections are also available on HDTracks. Upon hearing of the new digital release of Vapor Trails, and reading some of the reviews, I contacted Andy VanDette to ask the big question: is this the long awaited Vapor Trails remaster of the original master tapes, or just a remix?: These are the original mixes, but with a much different treatment. For what it is worth........A typical album takes me about 8 hours to master. I spent 4 days on VT, trying to find a way to emphasize the positive, and downplay the negative, with a "car test" every morning on my way in to the studio. I knew this album in particular would receive tremendous scrutiny. Being a musician, growing up on the other side of Niagara Falls from the band, Rush had a huge influence on me. I hope I have done their catalog justice. Check it out. I hope you will agree that VT sounds much less 'overblown'. I tried to design it to be more open and dynamic. I hope you enjoy it. 36. Hi girls. I've never posted on a Rush message board before. I've read them for years (this one much more than the others) but, for whatever reasons, just never decided to get my feet wet. After last night's phenomenal show at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, I decided to change that - even if only for a day. There are some things inside me that need to come out and I felt like this was the only place I could release them. I'm a 31 year-old woman from NYC and a Rush fan since 2003. Last night marked my 14th Rush concert and my VIP package awarded me a great ticket right in front of the very man whose plaintive riffs stole my heart 10 years ago: Alex Lifeson. (I'm pretty small, so he never noticed me standing there gazing up at him with a potent cocktail of loving tears and adoration in my eyes, which was perhaps for the best. It was a very emotional night for me and getting any sort of eye contact from a member of Rush might have legitimately caused a fainting spell!) I think that most Rush fans are, to an extent, somewhat broken and emotionally fragile people. Not ALL of them, obviously, but the more I meet and speak to at shows, and the more eyes I gaze into as I pass them in the hallways of concert venues, the more I believe that the 3 talented misfits who comprise Rush have managed to produce music that reaches into the hearts of every other misfit on the planet and pulls them into that warm and comforting nimbus where they know they will always be safe. And understood. I am one of those broken people. I was an "accidental" child born to a mother who was violent and resentful. I was sexually abused by my father until I was in my teens and never told anyone. I was a compulsive cutter, a complete outcast in school who was abused verbally and physically. I had no social skills, grew up despising all other children and was terrified of men. For the most formative and important years of my life, I was such an introvert that something as simple as going grocery shopping gave me anxiety attacks. I spent the majority of my life feeling like I had no place on this earth. I felt unloved, unlovable, worthless, filthy, confused and full of a sadness so infinite that it sometimes felt like my heart was smothering in my chest. I had no interest in music, in hobbies, in dating. My only true joy was in painting, but because I lived on my own from an early age, I rarely had the money to buy decent art supplies. I was a lost and completely broken human being who was merely existing without living at all. Anyone who tells you that music cannot change your entire life has obviously never been at the very end of their own rope, like I was. I will never, ever forget the first time I heard Rush. Sitting on my bedroom floor in front of my stereo system on an overcast day in October, I stumbled onto Q104.3FM while station surfing. Suddenly, streaming out of my speakers in impossible, shimmering, twisting ecstasy came Alex Lifeson's Limelight solo. It pierced through my heart like an arrow and I remember an awe-struck, prickling sensation spreading fast as wildfire throughout my entire body. His guitar cried out in sorrow and my heart answered immediately in understanding. But then the notes that followed twisted and danced and spiralled off into the most nakedly honest and raw joy I'd ever heard. It felt like, in the space of only 30 seconds or so, he had told my own personal story and created a happy ending for me where there had been none. The euphoria and pure, delicately screaming joy of that final, spiralling note that he rides into oblivion awakened something inside me that I couldn't fully understand but never wanted to let go of. Alex had jump-started a heart that had been dead for nearly 2 decades. I had no idea who he was, I had no idea who the rest of the band was or even the name of the song. I only knew that if I could hear that sound again, that sparkling guitar full of hope and promise, that teeming wall of rapturous sound that wrapped around it, then somehow everything would be okay. That was the beginning of my love affair with Rush. They reached me in the most beautiful and profound way possible, at a time when nothing and no one else could. I have never loved a band so much. I've never felt this way about music before, so consistently and for so long. I've never felt so deeply connected to 3 people I don't even know. I've never felt that I owed SO MUCH to a group of complete strangers. As they played The Garden last night, I reflected on all of this and broke down and cried. Right there in front of me, a mere 15 feet away, were the men who had saved my life and they didn't even know it. They would NEVER know it. I doubt they realize just how much the fruits of their livelihood affect the lives of those who hear it, how significant they are to the lost and hurting who stumble across their music. I'm still a broken person, but Rush was the bandage that helped me begin to heal. They were my rainbow in a life of nothing but clouds. I can only hope to God that they know how special they are. I often wish that I could meet them and just hug them and tell them "thank you", but it would never be enough. For what they have given to me, for what they have given to us all, there is no hug long or tight enough and there can never be enough "thank you"s. As The Garden wound softly to a close last night and the boys retreated for a short break, I thought about the lyrics. "In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture and protect". Whether Rush realizes it or not, we all are their garden to nurture and protect.... and they have done a damn fine job. So to all the other misfits out there... to all of you who, like me, have found solace or love or hope or healing in the music of these 3 wonderful men... my heart is with you, I understand and I raise a glass today to you, to Rush, to new beginnings, to the strength to carry on despite all odds and to the camaraderie that exists within this incredibly unique fanbase. If anyone made it through this entire message, thank you from the bottom of my heart for obliging me. :') And most of all, thank you RUSH!!! <3

  37. It says this is from 1977, but I don't think they played the Necromancer on the AFTK tour, I would have remembered it. I have a feeling this audio is from 1976, could be wrong. Great sound and if you ever wondered what Rush sounded like back then, especially Geddy's voice, you should check this out.

  40. I was ready to like this post but in my rulebook which is the official unofficial rulebook The Synth Era runs from Grace Under Pressure to Test for Echo. Signals marks the End of Broon and what is to come but it is not The Synth Era. That makes sense. I think I judge it by a certain style and sound that runs like a thread through those albums.

  43. You mean "Snakeoil & Arrows?" LOL! I've audio tested each pressing of "Hemispheres." USA aluminum no remaster USA remaster aluminum Sector remaster DDC gold cd Japanese non remaster aluminum German non remaster aluminum Japanese remaster aluminum Japanese SHM paper sleeve remaster aluminum Remastered current "Hemispheres" box set master. I'm always trying to find the brightest and most warm sound possible. My surround sound system is solid but I need to upgrade my receiver. I have a new MARANTZ reciever which I will eventually replace with my Pioneer Elite. I kind of understand that it is a possible waste of money hunting down the best sound quality of Rush music. It's hard to improve the audio quality of the older Rush stuff on Mercury. "It is what it is" but we all have different ears. My mind goes with the DDC "Hemispheres" gold cd. I truly believe that the 24 KT gold makes a nice subtle difference in the all around "warmth" of a recording. I'm a gold cd whore. As for the collecting purposes I would go for the RUSH SHM CD catalog just for the mere fact that they are all replicated after the actually LP vinyl release. I'm also an obi strip slut. The all around quality of the Japanese product blows doors off the rest of the world. It's not just the audio content but also the pure packaging. Better ink, better quality standards in the cardboard. For instance the "Wind And Wuthering" Genesis Mini Japan LP sleeve cd has the real bumpy surface as the real lp has it. STYX "Paradise Theater" Japanese mini sleeve cd actually has the real laser etching STYX logo on the top of the cd to replicate the actually laser etching to the vinyl. The attention to detail is top notch. Perfect to my ears and eyes. Nothing touches a Japanese mini sleeve cd regardless of sound. Earl here's the real deal for a digital version of Hemispheres... Available in Audiophile - 24-bit/192kHz, released 2015! http://www.hdtracks....ush-hemispheres Holy Sugar my brother! It's endless! Thanks for the link! I'm still so old school. I only am on Apple Music because my fukking Audi is bluetooth only. Pisses me off. There are 1000s of cds I have that are not on Apple Music. Do you know that "Breaker" by ACCEPT was deleted by Apple Music? "Breaker" is in my top 5 albums of all time. I can't even listen to it in my car unless I put youtube through my speakers. WEAK SHITE! I hate modern technology. At least if the grid gets wiped out and we still have electricity I can still rock in my house! FUUK CONFORMING TO THE NORM! "Deviate from the norm" right kids? Cranking "Renegade" by Thin Lizzy on my old fashioned stereo. Two subwoofers. Japanese cd pressing. Sounds like velvet butter. Epic shit. I love my Thin Lizzy SHM Japanese mini cardboard sleeves in a cool ass THIN LIZZY BOX! Yep! On topic!!! That's another great thing that Japan does Myles. It's not just RUSH. Japan puts out mostly every band's catalog in SHM sleeves. Many are housed inside a nice beautiful glossy box. I believe the company that makes these is called UNION DISK. THEY RULE! Such beautiful album art on each box that snuggly fits a band's entire catalog. Sometimes they are broken up in different boxes. Such beautiful art. Visual and audio delectables.
